Why do Owners rent points?

Another one who is renting because Princess doesn't take DVC points. We bought into DVC knowing that while we may take a yearly vacation to WDW we won't always and would rent our points on off years to pay for another vacation option.

We rent becuase you usually only get value of about $7.5 per point when you go outside of the WDW resorts/HH/Vero. So most people rent their points for $10+ and then pay cash for the other trips.

i rented out my points this year and will likely do so again in the future. I got a bit out of hand in buying 3 DVC properties and the wife has kinda lost interest in going. I think she may have burned out because we went so much last fall when we used DVC as a hurricane shelter (my home in Miami lost power for over 30 days total last fall due to three storms). I rented twice to people who had zero posts on DISBoards. History of posting is great, but really I am more about SHOW ME THE MONEY.

I bought into the DVC in 2004. We've made 5 trips so far. I never intended on renting points. This year we are actually borrowing a few points from next year. But with our first on the way, we'll probably wind up renting rather than losing those points. Not trying to make a profit, but probably will make a few bucks for the use year.
