Why do I feel like I am being punished by DVC for buying resale?

If you really want to feel punished, how about handing over your CC to Disney to charge "at will"? That is where I'm at right now ...

We attended the Nov Member's event at Disneyland's California Adventure and spoke with the ticketing desk about upgrading to Deluxe APs. We never signed the contract to purchase the APs as we did not agree to the terms. We watched the agent rip up the document and toss it away. BUT -- on 12/1 we receive an email welcoming us to our new Deluxe APs. Yep, indeed -- Disney has been charging our credit card each month for the new passes. They refuse to cancel the passes over the phone and are making life difficult, indeed. They were supposed to send a "copy" of my signed agreement by snail mail on 12/3 ... but it hasn't yet arrived. I wonder if they intend to fake the document as they have dozens of copies of my signature on countless forms? Arg. Why am *I* being punished, Disney? Why?
oh no. thats a real nightmare. wow. I have no words. I hope you can get that straightened out!

I'm not sure the headline matches the reality here. If the OP knew about the reduction in perks for resale buyers before they bought resale, how is Disney punishing them? If it was a bait and switch, that would be different but it doesn't sound like that's the case. I have to say that I once thought we should consider DVC as we are usually down to the world once a year. These boards have convinced me not to. I get dizzy just reading about banking and borrowing, split stays, 11 months versus 7 months, annual dues and lack of real choice to visit many other places. Add in the reduced perks for resale and the inflated costs of buying direct and, well you get the picture. It sounds like these things are not a problem for many of you but it's just not right for me.

OP, I hope you can get past your disappointment and enjoy your investment. You might consider a small, direct add on contract to get back your perks (if I read previous threads correctly!).
The title was meant to be sarcastic. As in, unfortunately bc I chose not to buy direct, and they were revoking privileges at the same time as I was buying, I went from being direct buyer to resale buyer. Kind of like in the club but not. So while yes I knew what was happening, I am just bummed about it. It was kind of rhetorical/sarcastic. But I do see here that there are people in these forums that take things very literally and point out the obvious haha. (not directed at you.)
And yes we have thought about an add on! direct sale possibly in the future. Maybe Wilderness Lodge??

I'm a post 4/2016 resale owner, and I can also purchase the $549.00 Gold AP on the website. My profile on the MDE website shows me as a DVC member, so that is why I think it allows me to purchase the Gold AP at this time. It could be a loophole or just bad web design. But the problem comes when you have to pick it up with the "white" membership card.
Shoot really? Crossing my fingers for the loophole! We get white membership cards? So they let you buy it but when you go pick it up they say "nope sorry." ??

Your punishment will be to activate those passes with an all-day standby-line pass to "It's a Small World".
The flogging will continue until the morale improves!

Also, I hate to say it, but, could you cancel your credit card? That ll cut them off!

Disney's answer to that idea, "If you stop payment, cancel the card (etc) w/out our agreement, the balance due will remain on your account preventing you from a future purchase until the debt is cleared."

Really, Disney? So, where is that signed contract, eh? Sigh.

Aw, I don't mind the line at "It's a Small World" in Disneyland. The building, animations and topiaries are a feast for the senses! :)

By some responses to the original poster I swear that there are Disney employees that scan these boards. Just because the op says she feels cheated can we not just leave it at that without telling her that she is wrong and should not feel that way.

I can assure you that no one that posted works for Disney, and my response would have been similar to many. We simply don't understand why some don't understand what they have bought when they purchase DVC. It is a timeshare, it's a lot of money, it pays to do the homework before purchasing. One is less likely to get disappointed if they understand the specifics of what they have bought. Perks come and go and that is to expected. We were offered very few when we bought in 2000.

Believe me Disney would have be as forth coming with their opinions on this subject.

Okay, again. I knew what was happening. I knew what I was losing. So don't wonder about that. I did my homework. Disney was TELLING ME I was going to lose benefits. My problem/annoyance was that Disney has somehow managed to make DVC into 2 clubs. You've got the direct and the resale post perks loss people. And as I said over and over again in this thread, I am simply bummed that those perks were not on the table anymore. The way that the sales department interacted with me in general. It just seemed very "undisney" to me. Emphasis on "to me." - subjective. Its simply the way I feel. I feel like I'm beating a dead horse with a stick right now.

People I am not an idiot. I was simply reaching out to see what others experiences were with this. And I learned stuff so I don't regret it, but, wow, I am ready to delete my profile and go back to idiot land where I apparently came from.

people are kinda brutal and redundant, and I respect their opinions. But clearly they do not do the same for me. Ha! I totally brought this upon myself, lesson learned.

I don't even know what to say to this. If I didn't know what I was doing, why would I have bought resale? Why wouldn't I have bought direct? I had those agents in my ear making it VERY CLEAR what was happening. If I am that dumb, how would I have even made it through the process of buying and selling etc. I understood what was happening. Does that mean I have to like it??

I think the big disconnect is that "Disney" is suppose to be different from the other theme parks and businesses. Once it loses the "Magic" it will just be another 6 Flags or Busch Gardens, and people don't pay a premium for those places. I hope the management realize this.

My response was not to your posting but to someone that thinks because we don't see any reason to be upset about changes in perks, that we work for Disney. Yes you have the right to be upset. Some of us simply do not see the reasons for that and we have that right too.

Just because DVC has Disney in the name does not mean they get money from tickets, food, merchandise, because they don't. They make their money on sales. Therefore at times they will make changes that they think will increase sales.

When you post on a public forum, you are going to get some that agree with your point of view and some that don't. Don't see why that should bother you.

Haven't really been paying attention lately but wow they acutyally made changes that people care about between resale and direct . People are right the difference is still in resale favor . But I have warned this was possible many times to be told they can't do it .

I think the issue is that people think they're supposed to be different but in reality it's just another timeshare that happens to be on Disney property. All any of us bought is a place to stay, plain and simple.

They are, in a way. You just have to decide if you want to pay for them. If you call your Guide and ask for a 25 point contract at most any resort, they will find a way to make it happen. There are a few sold-out where the waitlist for new points is closed, but just a few.

This comes up a lot. Disney is in the business of selling happiness. That's not the same as "Disney wants me, personally, to be happy." The first time someone comes face-to-face with that reality, it can be disappointing. But, it was always true. It's just that different people are at different places along the path to realizing it.

When you hit this realization, you have a couple of options. You can move on, you can go along with it but with eyes wide open, or you can ignore it. Some fraction of people do move on. But, the thing in Disney's favor is that there is a new batch of five-year-olds every year, and at least in certain strata of our society, the Disney trip is a right of passage for such kids. And, some fraction of those "new families" will be bitten by the bug and return for 5-10 years before they, too, discover that Disney doesn't care about them personally.

And, that group will be bolstered by the folks that have "seen reality" but don't really care all that much, and they keep going too.
