Just got back from a LOOONG week on vacation. We went to Colonial Williamsburg and Washington DC. I was really disappointed we didn't have a better time. The kids (5 & 2) were really bored. C.W. was a letdown.... I thought we'd be more "immersed" in the history of the place, but it was kinda scattered and not really as well "staged" as I thought it would be. Busch Gardens was fun. We got rained out a day & a half in CW so we didn't get to do much anyway. DC was nice but the kids didn't enjoy it so well. My daughter is so clingy she wanted to be held the whole time (she does not act that way at Disney!), and my son's legs gave out (we did not bring a stroller for him - he's really too heavy anyway). The weather was 20 degree swings from day to day. We lost a CD wallet with a dozen DVDs in it and then missed our flight home because we got stuck in traffic on the way to the airport (2 1/2 hours to go 30 miles). All in all, I was not impressed with my trip and even less impressed with myself... why I even thought I would have a better time anywhere than Disney... sheesh. I guess I just wanted to prove to people that I *could* vacation somewhere else... but DH and I agreed that we really couldn't have a better family vacation anywhere else. Maybe someday in a couple years we'll be able to go somewhere alone together, but for now, family is first and we are going to follow our hearts to the Mouse.

sometimes we feel the same way. i have found that cruising is a fun way to spend family trips together too. i'm hoping that as the kids get older, we'll be able to enjoy more cultural vacations.

but for right now, disney has provided us with all the fun we've needed!

My oldest DD is going to be 15 on Monday, (we also have DDs 13, 9 and 7!) my DH and I are going away, ALONE, for the first time in over 15 years!!! WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY!!! ::yes:: We know we wouldn't have as much fun anywhere else, so why bother?!?!?

I am saving those kinds of vacations when DD is older. Right now I think she would be very bored. We will stick with WDW, lakes, beaches, and such. :)

I'm sorry you had such a bad time. :(
