Why Do I Bother Calling CRO?

This morning a CM told me that the tickets sold through discount sellers like Ticketmania, etc were being sold "illegally"! She then corrected herself and decided that they were being sold "immorally". I was under the impression that certain discount sellers (Ticketmania, Maple Leaf tickets, Paramount Tickets, etc) were authorized by WDW and that's why we were assured of quality tickets when we purchased through them. Am I wrong, or if I call back and speak to a different CM will I get a different answer?

Disney sells the tickets to brokers. The brokers sell the tickets. Disney chooses to sell the tickets to brokers.

You do want to be careful, not all brokers are reputable.

Many ticket brokers have contracts directly with Disney and purchase their tickets directly from Disney.

Of course, Disney is a huge corporation and half the time "one hand doesn't know what the other is doing." The average agent at Disney's Reservation Center (DRC) will have no idea there is a department at Disney selling tickets to brokers. At DRC they will only know about the tickets they sell themselves.

FayeW : Just out of curiousity...why were you asking someone in CRO about buying tickets from a non-Disney source? The only reason I ask, is because I would think the very last thing anyone in CRO would do is give you any advice about buying your tickets elsewhere. To me, it would be like walking into one restauant, and asking how the food is at the restaurant across the street. (Sorry, I can't think of any other way to put this without sounding "snotty", which is not my intention.)

I do agree w/Mary though that it is probably just a case of one hand not knowing what the other is doing. You'd think anyone involved with giving out info. about WDW would have all the facts. I know we all do (LOL!). :teeth:

/QUOTE]

I didn't ask about the discount tickets, per se, I was asking if I could apply the (4) 1 day base tickets I have to buy as part of the package to one single, multiday ticket for one of us, since I will already have the other tickets from a discount seller. For the record, I was told no. (That makes 2 CM's saying no, and 1 saying that yes, I could!) Still waiting for a response from the email I sent earlier in the week. I was stunned at what she said about the tickets being illegal/immoral. I understood the relationship between Disney & the brokers to be as Mary discribed, so I was taken aback.

Yes, that makes sense as to why you would bring it up to CRO. Everything I've heard and read is that you can apply the value of current tickets to upgrade to something else...however, it would be whatever the discount broker paid for it. For example, it may be a $50 ticket that the broker paid $30 for...so the lower amount is the credit you would receive. In some cases, if you've had the tickets awhile, you're better off just using them for a day's admission because they would be valued at such a lower cost when trying to upgrade. Guest Services at the parks are the only ones that can make it happen, so it's probably difficult to get any clear answers from someone at CRO. Good luck to you with your "immoral" tickets...you bad girl!!! :teeth:

Okay...correct me if I am wrong

What you are REALLY asking is...Can you combine the four 1 day MYW tickets(you had to purchase to get meal free deal or other package) into one ticket? I belive the answer is yes. They were sold to you by disney.

WHat I would say if I called CRO is, we already have disney tickets, but in order to advantage of the 4 MYW tickets, can I combing them into one tickett?

You not wanting to do anything with other tickets right?

Right! I didn't want to do anything with my illegal, immoral tickes from Ticketmania. I just planned to buy only 3 multi day tickets, and trade the (4) single tickets in for the 1 additonal multi day we need. I was actually buying the dining plan, since the free offer expires before we go. It is all moot now anyway, since I worked out our 3 scenarios for our first night stay, and have decided that we will just pay for the extra night at Bryan's Spanish Cove and be done with it. That way we can get our groceries when we arrive, and not have to interrupt our second day to pick up groceries and check in. Cost wise, it works out about the same, although I don't get the TS at CRT or LeCellier I was hoping for with the dining plan.

ETA: Just got a response from WDW about exchanging the tickets. They said that it is up to the representative on duty at guest relations at the time the tickets are presented. Although I believe we have made our decision, I replied that I found it odd that a corporation as large as WDW didn't have a standard policy in place, that this was not an usual request, and I was confused as to why it is determined by the CM on duty at the time. I'll see what happens, just so we know for future.

Gee, is she sure they're not being sold "fatteningly"? (Old joke: Everything I like is either illegal, immoral or fattening).

You not wanting to do anything with other tickets right?
The answer is no you cannot. You can never combine multiple tickets onto a single ticket nor can you apply the value of multiple old tickets to a single new ticket. Doesn't matter whether they came from Disney, Ticketmania, or anyone else. Even if all four tickets had your name on them and not four different names, it still cannot be done. It's not something that's up to the discretion of the CM.

But that's not what the email says! This is the response I got:

"We appreciate your recent ticket inquiry.

Generally, it is possible to have the value of unused days on
previously
purchased admission tickets (with no printed expiration date) credited
toward the purchase of new multi-day ticket media. Regrettably,
however, it is only possible for a specific determination to be made,
and the exact credit value determined, when the tickets are presented
in
person at any Walt Disney World® Guest Relations location. The
representative you speak with at that time will be happy to evaluate
your situation, explain your options and complete the appropriate
transaction.

We hope this information is helpful, and we look forward to future
opportunities to entertain you."

As I had already asked the same question on the board a week ago, I was fully expecting them just to say "NO!".

I think the deal is that you can only trade one ticket...for one ticket. So, a person couldn't take four one-day tickets and use them to upgrade to one AP, however they could use the four tickets towards the cost of four AP's. Or, one old PH with multiple days could still be used as a credit for one new MYW ticket with a higher value. Clear as mud?

That is certainly what everyone here on the board believes to be the policy, however, as indicated by the email I received, there doesn't seem to be a standard policy. You would think that if I was not allowed to apply the credit from more than one ticket to the purchase of a new ticket, they would just say so! Apparently, it depends on the whim of whoever is working at Guest Relations the day I show up with my tickets in my hand.

Obviously, this is going to be too much hassle, and I am no longer considering it as an option. I would like Disney to give me a straight, definative answer though!

Two things:

First, it isn't always a matter of whim. As with any job, there are some people who simply know more than others.

For example, before my promotion last year, there was a vast difference when a sales person asked me a question versus when a sales person asked one of my peers a question. I knew the correct answer, most every time, while often my colleagues would either not know the answer, or they'd "know" the wrong answer. They're great guys, I assure you, but it isn't reasonable to expect everyone to know their jobs the same as everyone else. And what happened in my case is exactly what should happen: I got promoted. So now there is someone else in my old job, who knows that job less than either of his colleagues do, which again, makes sense -- he's brand-new. He knows the job well-enough to do it satisfactorily, but we don't expect him to be, as we didn't expect his peers to be, as good as I was, from Day One. Everyone is learning, growing, becoming better at their jobs, every day.

Second, to get a "straight, definitive answer" send your inquiry via regular mail to WDW Guest Communications: PO Box 10040: Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-0040. To be utterly assured, insist on a written reply -- even if they call you to discuss the issue, still insist that it be followed up with a written reply.

FayeW -- When you have to change your vacation plans due to lack of information...you certainly have a right to be frustrated. I hope the rest of your trip planning is easy as pie and you have the best time ever. Maybe if you have some free time during the trip you can go to Guest Relations and ask the question, just to see what answer you get (since you've already made your decision). If anyone else reading the thread has experience with this issue, please post. :)

Honestly what I get from the e-mail is "Hi, When you come to Guest Services, We'll evaluate the situation. We may tell you that you can only do a one for one trade (Because this is what CRO agents are told) or we may not allow it... OR we may go ahead and do it."

No deffinate answer has been given in your e-mail, Only the option having the situation evaluated, and an answer given at the time you visit.

I hope you have a great vacation.

And I'm reading this to say you may be able to use unused days towards multiday..however, when I read it, I just thought it meant, each ticket may (or may not) be able to be used to upgrade. So if you had 4 single unused days, you can upgrade (or you may not LOL) to 4 multiday tickets. Since, in the past, that is what we have been able to do, I prob just read into what I thought I knew the rule to be.

Exactly! It's up for interpretation! :) Ahh monday... another day, people waiting to put in ressies for F&W

Now, the way I understand the e-mail response isn't to say that upgrades are at the whim of the CM, but that it may be possible and that if you bring the tickets to the CM they will let you know if they can do it. So I would think that with some tickets you can do this and with some tickets you can't and they didn't want to commit to anything until they actually saw what tickets you had, therefore bring it to the CM and once they see what kind of tickets you have, the CM will go over the options with you. Make sense?

Yes, but it still irritates me! We've decided to scrap the idea altogether, just because I don't feel like spending another $240. for tickets I don't want, and may be stuck with in the end. I understand that they don't have an expiry date on them, and I could save them for some point in the future. The tickets from the discount sellers are much cheaper ($164. cheaper in our case), so even to keep these tickets and upgrade each one separately another time means I've paid more than I have to, KWIM?

I am still interested in getting a more definitive answer from Disney, but I'm not holding my breath! If the free dining plan is ever made available for our dates, I may look at this again.
