Why do all the CM's in MK carry "grabbers"?

We noticed that many of the CM's in MK were carrying around "grabbers"- not just those who might be picking up trash, but parade coordinators, etc.

What is the reason for this?

..because they pick up trash too!

It's mostly Managers and Coordinators that carry the grabbers if they aren't with custodial. Reason being, they're often times walking to different location, checking on CM's, and making sure everything is running smooth. When they're in transit to location, they'll often times help keep the place clean!

All the CMs in all of the parks are supposed to be responsible for picking up trash if they see it. If you're working an attraction, you won't carry one with you, but there's usually one nearby in a backstage area. If a CM spends a lot of their time outdoors (or travelling to different locations), they may carry one with them just to make things easier.

I worked attractions at Studios, but spent plenty of time sweeping popcorn up on Mickey Avenue.

They pick up other stuff too-I spent an enjoyable time in the test track line watching some berk who had dropped a sandal over the side of the queueing area-the part where it goes up the incline.She was trying to stick her arm through the fence and reach down about 4 feet to the floor to pick up her sandal-honestly she's have to be related to King louie to reach it In the end the CM took pity on her and came and grabbed the sandal for her-its a pity really, I was dying to see if she'd have to hop on to the ride!

Also they are designed to trip kids who are using heelies!

I saw one being used to pick up someone's hat that blew off while they were in line for Small World. It landed off the ramp at the first bend and fell all the way down. No way even King Louie could reach that; maybe King Kong, but he's not allowed at the MK.

I SO hope that is true...wretched things...deep and abiding dislike for heelies!

Yes the "important CM's" that wear Black Pants and white shirts have them...I want to be ONE of those when I quit my Job and work for Disney!

Walt was maticulous at picking up trash in the parks... so even if you saw, saw Iger or Roy in the parks..they would be picking up trash to!

A little OT- but on one of Eisners first trips to WDW, there seemed to be "strategically" placed trash on his walking route. He didn't want to pick it up, because his back hurt (big baby Eisner!!), but he did, because he knew if he didn't, there would be "you know what" to pay! AND, by the time he was done, his back pain was gone!
