Seaworld is still in trouble. They need help and only Disney has the resources and reason to buy Seaworld.
Universal has the land they need for their expansion and if they were to buy them it would interfere with their plans. As a result of this Seawold can't survive on its own. Their only solution is to merge with someone else. That means Six Flags, Cedar Fair, Merlin or a China company if neither Disney nor Universal bought them. But as I said for Orlando Universal doesn't make sense while I believe Disney does. It would give Disney their 5th gate right away and not cut into their existing attendance. It would also give their guests another day of something to do without the need or expense of Universal. Seaworld would also give them another park is Southern California and Texas.
Now in response to this I think Merlin should buy Cedar Fair and Universal should then buy Six Flags and get the rights to DC. TWX would have no other options for the character rights in North America and they already have a good relationship with Universal due to the HP rights.
Now getting back to why I think Disney gains in this purchase. First they have to do something in Orlando to keep their guests from spending their extra days at Universal. Second, it gives them a thrill park they are missing. Third it would help with their Florida passes. They could offer three types. One for just WDW, one for Seaworld and Bush Garden and a third for all of them. Finally it would force both Universal and Merlin to expand nationally.
Why Merlin should buy Cedar Cair. They are a perfect mix. They have parks that complement then parks they already own. They give them the ability to sell a national pass that would add millions to their bottom line. It would be a great merger.
The same holds true for Universal buying Six Flags. The NYC metro area is the largest area of Orlando timeshare owners. Being able to sell an annual pass that would be accepted at Great Adventure and Universal Florida would work just as well if not better than Merlin's combination with Cedar Fair.
These mergers work for everyone. All three companies gain and win and so do the customers. Universal gets DC characters but would have to give up Marvel in Orlando. Merlin and Universal become complete national theme park companies. Disney gains more share on the southern US. And consumers gain the opportunity to bug truely national passes. Everyone wins especially animal lovers. Only Disney has the ability and history to show how much they care about animals. This goes back to Walt's nature series. Disney and Seaworld combined can and will do wonders for wildlife on land and in the seas.
