I went to Sonic for only the second time in my life last night. Why didn’t anyone warn me their onions rings are sweet? I couldn’t even finish them. 🤮 Are there other breaded items the same?

The burger was okay but nothing special. I won’t be hurrying back.

I am not a fan of sonic. In fact, I can't tell you the last time I ate there. Been probably 10 years. So I had no idea their onion rings were now sweet.

I love Sonic! I don't think there onion rings are sweet. To each their own

You never asked? 🤣

We go to Sonic maybe once a year. I don't remember the Onion Rings being "sweet", but maybe. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe I got a bad batch? Might not have been too bad if they actually given me the ranch they said was in the bag.

But according to this article. They have vanilla shake mix in them. Which is exactly what they tasted like.

Now I want to run out to Sonic and see if I detect the sweetness. I haven't been in ages just because I have had mixed service experience with the ordering format at some of the ones without a true drive through. I used to really like their onion rings, but I don't remember detecting an abnormal sweetness. Now, it's possible the recipe changed OR it could have been my diet at the time, since I used to consume a lot more sugar and might not have noticed.

I remember Sonic onion rings as really delicious, but it has been literally years since I've been to Sonic. Their burgers were excellent too, but I realize that may well have changed.

The only kind of onion rings I like are sweet ones. Maybe I need to go now!

Well, to be honest we haven't been to a Sonic in years. None close to us. And the entire reason WE go is for the tots, not onion rings. But a raw onion has about 5g of sugar in it, and cooking amplifies the sweetness so what flavor profile were you expecting @disneychrista ? Was the batter sweet? Or just the onion?

It was the batter that was VERY oddly sweet and now that I read the article I posted above, I can definitely saw they have a distinct vanilla flavor. Not like a corn dog batter that has a hint of sweetness. More like they battered the onion rings in cake batter sweetness

I can't remember the last time I ate at Sonic. I do ocassionally stop in for a "happy hour" drink or slush.
