Why did you use DVC points for a Fort Wilderness cabin?

I do not understand the benefits of staying in a Fort Wilderness cabin when DVC points can be used for Wilderness Lodge villas or one or two bedrooms at OKW.

Can anyone who has done this please explain why? Tell me the advantages if you will. :confused3 :earsboy:

Well, I haven't done it, but before I purchased DVC FW cabins were my FAVORITE place to stay. I remember posting early on that I might use some of my points to stay there, and someone wrote, "Just don't do it on your first trip....I seriously doubt you will feel that way after you go home."

Well, that's pretty much true. All my books are still packed (we just moved) so I cannot compare the prices of a 2 bdrm vs. a cabin. If the cabins were significantly cheaper than a 2 bdrm, I could see using those if your party had 5 adults (wait...MS is allowing five in a 1bdrm now, right?).

Hmmm....well, I guess my other scenario would be if there were "no rooms at the inn", so to say. If I had points...holding, reservation status or otherwise, and I couldn't use them at a DVC resort, I might try to use them at FW. I really do LOVE the unique amenities at that resort. We always used to stay in a FW "trailer" when I was growing up....it was our favorite resort. I think my dd would love it (although, I don't think she would believe it was WDW if SAB was not involved....who knew she would love that pool so much?!!)

Like the above poster, we always stayed at the FW cabins before we bought DVC three years ago. We thought we may use our points to revisit the cabins, but we haven't yet. We thought about it for our last trip but we really love the DVC accomodations, especially that jacuzzi at the end of the day!!!

The cabins are nice, we never had a complaint about them. One plus is the daily maid service. Also, our kids would really love to go back to the cabins for the bunk beds alone. We like that you can park your car right outside the cabin. And we enjoy the Fort Wilderness resort with all the activities for the kids, like the nightly campfire/movie. But they could definitely revamp their pool areas. There is absolutely no theming or slides.

Point wise they're no deal, but someday we may go back. Most likely we wouldn't stay there our entire visit. It's more likely we would start out there for a few nights, then move on to a DVC resort. Or possibly if a good code is out there stay for the weekend and pay cash and then move on to a DVC resort. I do have a soft spot in my heart for Fort Wilderness, it's where we first stayed when our kids were just toddlers, it holds a lot of great memories for me. So if you're thinking about trying it, I say go for it, even if it's just for a couple of nights during your trip. :)

The villas and cabins are a totally different experience. Although I would choose the luxury of a 1 bedroom at the lodge, my son and husband would take the cabin, no contest!

I dont have my books handy either, but I think you can "legally" put 6 in a cabin for less points than a 2 bedroom which is what you would need in a DVC resort... a one bedroom won't work.

Because my DW has always wanted to stay there so we are and the points are not all that different from a 2 bedroom.

FW cabins per night Sun-thurs 27 points

OKW 2-bedroom per night Sun-thurs 22 points

both off season - value for WDW resorts and Adventure for DVC resorts.

because some DVC members love it.

same reason for booking the Polyn, Cont, Gf, YC, AKL on points - because they love it!!! :sunny:

Yes , because they love staying there, some people (me) love to experience everything at Disney...

So, If I wanted to use my points to stay at the cabins who cares it is about the experience to me anyway. Looking from the value perspective yea hands down not worth it to use your points for that ...

But some people love BLT's and some love the Cabins:love:<---can not wait to stay there.....:cool1:

Plus add $95 for the cabins.

I only used points for a non-DVC once. I had a business trip to Orlando and I decided to go down Sunday and stay at WDW that night. It was mid October, so I could hit the Food & Wine Festival. It was 3 weeks ahead and there was nothing at any DVC resort, any room size. So I booked POFQ for 18 points. This was before the $95 fee. The rest of the nights I stayed near the office, which is close to Downtown. Another time I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott near Crossroads, which was company approved so I could expense it.

I haven't done it with points, but when our DS's were young, we rented them, and I loved the whole experience. The appeal to me is being in the woods, having the car right there, the deck with the grill, housekeeping, but the lack of washer and dryer takes away from the pull to go back.

I'll bet before our DVC ownership is a thing of the past, I'll have at least a 5-10 night stay in one of the trailers, for old time sake. It may be with DH, but most likely with a DGF or two, people who would like to ride bikes, swim, and just enjoy being at WDW but being apart as well. It would be a stay to rent boats a time or two. I know my DS with the DGC would do love to do it, but with his family it would be too many people, I would need two cabins!

Once they are in RSVp status, they are stuck there. If you cancelled a cruise, or something, and wanted to use them at DW, and there is 5 in your fam, it would be the best option.
