Why did you choose your home resort

I own at BWV and BCV. The top reasons for buying were: proximity to two favorite parks, the feel of seaside resorts (we are from Maine) make them like home, the BoardWalk at night, and SAB for grandkids.

Since we bought in '91, the choice was the Disney Vacation Club Resort, which is now OKW. The success of this venture spurred the growth that you see today. We added our second "home", VWL, while on the Member Cruise.

We've stayed at all of the onsite DVC resorts. OKW still remains the favorite. We're also very pleased with our VWL add-on. We find both resorts to be very relaxing, which is important to us when we travel. :D :D :D

That's an easy question....my dh would only consider buying at BWV!!! It was a spur of the moment type thing. He gave our phone number to DVC since we were leaving for home in an hour. They called, he said buy at BWV or no place. Had we toured anyplace? Nope. Bought sight unseen. We did visit BWI once but it was just in passing. Going 'home' for the first time in August.

When we bought in 97', the choices were OKW,BWV's, VB and HHI. We had always stayed at Dixie Landings and we took the DVC tour while on our
honeymoon:bride: :groom: :lovestruc :love2: At the time, the tour was done at OKW and we just fell in love with it. We are originally from N.J. and were living there at the time (we now live in FL:cool1: ) and BWV's while nice didn't appeal as much - the AC theme was too close to where we already lived and we liked the feel of getting away from N.J. and into FL. And VB was beautiful - we actually stayed for 3 nights (already had booked before buying DVC) went to VB 2 nights after purchasing DVC but we wanted to own on sight so that kind of made the decision as far as HHI went too. So for us OKW back then was the obvious choice and it was easier too as all were available directly from Disney. I have to say though, even now the other choices of VWL,BCV's and SSR, The other DVC resorts are "a nice place to visit" but we're happy OKW is our home resort because if we had to do it all over again and were just buying into DVC now - 7 yrs later, We would definetly be going with a resale and buying OKW!
:teeth:

At the time we purchased in September of '02, BCV was the only resort open at the time, and I didn't want to go through the hassle of paying closing costs and what not on a re-sale. Plus, we all enjoy SAB and the Epcot Resort area, so it was really a no-brainer. The only thing I can say that I'm somewhat disappointed in is the fact there are no rooms with a view out onto Crescent Lake. Other than that BCV is nice, quiet, and laid back. Perfect for a relaxing vacation, and if you want some hustle and bustle, the Boardwalk is a short stroll away.

As one on the early "risk takers" we bought at THE Disney Vacation Club, now called OKW. As DVC grew and more resorts were built, we added on 150 pts at BCV for the location and SAB and at VWL for the great theming and to make sure we get in during early Dec. I think we're about done adding on, but our 1st trip to SSR in this July, and that add on bug may just bite me again.

All the DVC resorts are great, wish I could afford to own lots of points at each. What's the limit, 2000 at each resort, hummm!!! Come on Power Ball.

We had no choice .. In Nov. 1991 when we visited, OKW, then The Disney Vacation CLub Resort, was just under construction. They had buildings 11 & 12 done plus the Commodore House. No pool, no Hospitality House, no Turtle Crawl...Even 12 years later, we like OKW.. slightly larger rooms, less points (a biggie !), slightly off the beaten track, decor, yada, yada.

We just recently bought @ OKW due to the cost per point and the lower maintenance fees. It is our intention to try all the DVC resorts but know that we wouldn't have a problem if it turned out the OKW was the only one we were able to use.

A lot of our decision was based on the fact the we only plan to go to WDW every other year due to airfare issues from the West Coast. Would have loved SSR, but OKW was just more affordable factoring everything else into it.

OKW was exactly what we were looking for from the DVC. We love the ambience, laid-back relaxing feel we get there. We enjoy the spacious rooms and sitting out on our balcony watching the ducks, rabbits and egrets. As some say, location, location, location ! :D OKW completes our vacation experience. In the future, we'd like to add-on at both OKW and VWL (another beautiful, relaxing resort). We would plan to use VWL for December (holiday) trips because we feel for Christmas decor, VWL can't be beat ! We also loved the feel of Vero and being right on the beach, but we already own an offsite southeast FL beachfront timeshare (Vistana).

We mostly chose SSR because of the longer contract and purchase value (discount on price/point).

When we bought, there were two resorts available from Disney...OKW and BWV. We didn't know about the resale market at that time! For us it was no decision, since we had toured and stayed at OKW and then toured BWV and decided we prefered the vacation home style accommodations at OKW over the hotel like accommodations at BWV. We have not been disappointed in our decision either! We love the atmosphere, size of rooms, vacation home feel, and laid back "get away from it all" atmosphere of OKW! It is like having the best of two worlds....An on-site Disney vacation resort PLUS a friendly, relaxing vacation community resort.

We first saw DVC in 1991, when we were there on our honeymoon. There was only OKW(then called Disney's Vacation Club). I wanted to buy it then, but my DH thought we should save money and buy a house first! Talk about screwed-up priorities, huh!;)

Finally, in 1997, we were ready to buy. OKW and BWV were available. OKW was overall less expensive...cost per point, common charges, transaction fees etc. When we took the tour, we went to both OKW and BWV. Certainly, no one can argue about location with regard to BWV, but OKW has its strong points too, and the "draw" of the location wasn't enough to offset the cost difference.

We could be happy staying at OKW for the rest of our lives. Thankfully, we have always been able to book at any of the other DVC resorts we have wanted to stay in when we want a change of scenery, so we have had the best of all worlds...overall less expensive costs and the ability to enjoy those resorts with the more expensive costs.

OKW was the only DVC when we joined in 1994. We have added on at VB so we could have the 11 month window for a cottage. We have also add on several times at OKW. Only wish we had more points!!!

Back in 1997, we could purchase BWV and OKW on site. We we staying with a friend at OKW when we toured, so we toured BWV at the time. We chose OKW because of the point system, size of the villas, the wonderful Floridian atmosphere, and its just feeling of being our "second home". BWV was too busy for us and we could not be happier staying at OKW for every trip. We have enjoyed staying at VB for a beach visit, but when onsite, we will be quite content staying at OKW, our "second home".

When we bought in early 1992, OKW (then called Disney Vacation Club) was the only choice. I had visited a WDW a number of times before with family and we always stayed in the Villas by Downtown Disney, so OKW was in a perfect location for me. I am still happy with my purchase and I can honestly say that none of the other DVC resorts would have held as much appeal to me if they had been available at the time I bought.

I am of the mind set that when I am in Florida, I want to feel like I am in Florida. That is why the quiet, tropial ambience there is perfect for me. The other DVC resorts all have their charms but OKW was and still is the only choice for me.

Because alot of people come here for information and looking for help before they take that big step to purchase.. threads like this really do help more then you can know.

Before I purchased, I read and read thread after thread trying to figure out why people purchased.. I knew why "I" wanted to but I am not all seeing, all knowing and there could be additional reason I hadn't thought about... also reasons NOT to purchase at one resort or another. The last thing I wanted to do is spend 25K just to find out I made a mistake in my selection of DVC resorts.

This has been a great thread packed with alot of GREAT information.. I hope it helps some of our newbies getting ready to take that first step in joining this great DVC family...

We have not quite purchased yet.. but it looks like we are going to. I think all properties are all a close call. Our favorite area to date has been the Y&BC, so I assumed that I would buy BCV or BWV. During the process of looking for properties... the 50 year idea of SSR started gnawing at us.. so I called and asked them to draw up a 300 pt contract for SSR.

I do not know if our thoughts are flawed or not.... I am 52... kids are 18, 20, 22. It really doesnt matter if we lose the property when my oldest is 72, or 60.... and in any case... my theme park days will certainly be finished !

However, I thought that in a few years, the remaining years of use might start becoming a bigger deal. In 10 years... it will be down to 28 years remaining... and my fear is that a lot of potential buyers would feel they would not be able to will this to their kids.

In reality... lots can change between now and then... but the 50 year, vs 38 year lifespan seems to be affecting our decision... right or wrong.

I chose BWV because it was the only available WDW property being sold. LOL
Turns out that woulod be my first choice anyway, so we lucked out!
We bought HH without ever having been there, I was pregnant with Baby #2 and on a whim decided that with 2 kids, it would be nice to take a beach-type vacation once a year.
Our first time at in March 2002 I was ehhh about it, last June we went again and we fell in love. I wnated to cry when we had to leave-so I got lucky then too. :sunny:

When we bought, the only available was Boardwalk (and of course HH and VB). The others had not yet been built.

We purchased at the Boardwalk as we feel the location gives us several options for transportation, walking into parks and entertainment options. I am sure many others have found the same advantages.
