Why did they have to mess with Legos?

While my wife and I were shopping for Christmas presents at Toys R Us, we noticed what they have done to Legos.

You used to just buy a box that contained Lego bricks of various shapes and sizes, and you built what ever your imagination came up with. There were no limits. I designed and built hunderds of different things out of Legos when I was a kid. I learned a lot doing it and really stetched my imaginnation.

Now you have to buy kits that build specific things like a ship or space shuttle. They have already designed what you are supposed to build, all you have left to do is put the peices together. Wheres the fun in that?

btw-We have lots of misc. legos. Got a whole bucket of them for ds a few years ago at BJ's. There are still around. Just have to look for them.

My parents used to get me the kits, too. Mostly for castles. And we'd make what was designed, play with it for a while, then disassemble it and use imagination for the rest. As long as the new legos can be used in that same way, I see no problem with kits.

Although I think the majority of lego kits are the ones you are describing, I was at Toys R Us on Sunday and they had the 500 piece buckets. They also had buckets of the chunkier blocks. And they were Lego brand blocks. Maybe they were sold out at your store?

We have a few buckets of plain ones and some kits. They kids usually lose the directions and a few pieces from the kits and they just wind up in the big lego bin anyway where the kids use them to make whatever they come up with in their imagination!

Yeah-they still make the tubs of Legos. Ds like those much more
than the "kits". He doesn't like to be told what to build.
We've bought a few kits but once they're built, they never come
out again. I do know one boy who re-designs his kits, he's very
talented.
