Why did they change shark reef at TL?

The shark reef at Typhoon Lagoon was always one of our favorites but this year it was such a disappointment. Before you just got your snorkel, showered, listened for a minute and then if you were ready you just took off. You could go over and over. We loved it. Now, they only let a few in at a time, they lecture you, then they let you into another roped off area and lecture you again. Then they line you up along the water's edge and lecture you again. It took 45 minutes for one trip across. Anyone know why they changed?

The one and only time I went was way back in August of 99 and we were only allowed one pass. Maybe passing over and over is only allowed in off-peak times?

We go every July - that's definitely peak time - so I don't know. Does anyone have any idea? This really changed our entire view of TL.

Interesting. We were there this past Saturday and the line was SO long! We did it a few years ago so we didn't wait this time, but that explains the longer wait!

We were going to try TL this year instead of BB. My boys love BB,but I want ed to try tl because of the great review of the reef. Now, I don't know what to do.

Maybe all the added lecturing time is because quite a few people don`t listen to the simple rules. I was there a couple of weeks ago (the line was too long so i didn`t do it) and couldn`t even begin to count how many times the lifeguards had to tell people to stop kicking .....

If you go to TL go to the reef first thing after the new gusher ride. We did not go right away because in past years there was not much of a wait a little later in the morning. (we always do a morning at both TL and BB and this year the kids said that BB was definitely better)

We went to both, the 1st week of July, I don't think I would need to do TL again. The only reason would be the wave pool. The reef had a long line and small area to snorkle. So we didn't do it.

When we recently went an "I'm going" Mom turned into a "no way" Mom at that second stop point. We loved it and thought they had added sharks since our last visit- and they were really active! But I think it is to avoid water freak outs. If you really want to snorkel go to DIscovery Cove. Now that is a great fish sighting place.

I'm thinking it's more because of the heavy crowds right now. We've always gone to TL during off season and never waited for anything.

We went last Tuesday and got to TL around 10am. We got seats right near Shark Reef and did that first. There was no line. We did the mask instruction and were off. Lots of beautiful fish. It looked the best I have ever seen it. Huge Parrot fish! We have been going to TL since 99 and they have always done the instructions. We were also only allowed accross one time and had to line up again each time. Even in September (dead.) It was pretty busy 2 weeks ago. We had to wait in line about 15 minutes.
