why did Disney allow Four Seasons instead of another Deluxe Disney?

IMHO, that would not be a great location for a WDW deluxe. All other deluxes (I'm not referring to OKW or SSR which are "deluxe villas") have proximity to parks as a major perk (including AKL's proximity to AK). I'm sure it's absolutely lovely and customer service is probably better than WDW, but that is the main reason we would never stay there. I can't imagine another sprawling DVC complex like OKW or SSR. They seem to have trouble filling those to begin with and it's probably why they are converting rooms (AKV, VWL, Poly) instead of building dedicated resorts. I'm guessing Disney made money on the Four Seasons deal as opposed to possibly losing money by developing, building and managing themselves.

I was gonna say because of the musical? :duck:

Some people only want to go to Disney (or any hotel) if it's luxurious and Disney deluxes customer service doesn't compare to the Four Seasons. Especially for the price.

It was built at a time when Disney didn't want to take on the capital expense.

Sorry because its not closE?

Why not?

- They have other non-Disney resorts "on property" so why not sell a piece.
- They also sold land on the western boundaries to Marriott.
- This resort is on land that would not work for a Deluxe due to location.
- Disney does not seem interested in building more hotels.
- Disney is focused on DVC.
- Disney knows there are folks who want true deluxe hotels
in lieu of Disney "deluxe" so would choose offsite.
- Disney made over $50 million for sale of land & golf course.
- Disney no longer has to run the golf course.
- It is a compliment to Golden Oak neighborhood.
- Disney hopes guests of Four Seasons will explore buying in Golden Oak.
