It could be the airline was offering a sale that ended, or it could be their satisfied with how many seats they have filled currently and raised the rates. Really, no one knows.

I would search for the Bing travel predictor and see what that about rates dropping, and also set a few travel alerts with kayak and airfarewatchdog (they'll both notify you when/if the prices drop.)

The problem with your date is that it's the Saturday of a holiday weekend. Holiday weekends are high in general, so it's anyones guess as to whether the prices will drop again or go higher...

Edited to add: Have you looked at Southwest. I plugged in your dates and they seem to have $100 tickets each way, which seems to be a reasonable price....Were you set on a specific airline or times or something?

What airline? Southwest typically has sales that start on Tuesdays.

Did u sign up for the alerts? They normally email you the "sale" on air fares on tuesday....

All airlines have prices backed on what they call " buckets", once the amount of tickets are sold in one bucket, the price increases. This happened to us recently.

We booked the Disney Cruise - fine, I checked the airline tickets from the UK flying on Virgin Atlantic then went on a business trip to Hong Kong for 5 days, when we came back the prices had increased £875 per person! So I called them and I asked, the explanation above is what they told me. So I then went online and went through agents and got the same flights for £321 per person more than the original quote using the SAME airline.

:confused3

Yeah I would definitely check Southwest! That's who we are using for our trip next month. No baggage fees plus Love Field is much easier to navigate than DFW. I also planned on purchasing my tickets on a certain day and prices skyrocketed over $1300 total. I just waited 4-5 days and they came back down. I was able to get 5 round trip tickets for $1,196 total vs double that if I had purchased the week before. You might also sign up for Southwest's Ding! Alerts if you haven't already. You can get special prices that way too. Good luck!!

It maybe the amount of tickets in one purchase. If you are close to the import or call, to price one or two at a time. I got one at .$37, $57, $77 Before the $20 airport fee and one way. Also, is that Martain Luther King school break? That weekend was high for us to consider this year.

If you book with Southwest, you can always get a refund on the price if it drops. This is only good if you plan on flying again within one year, as the refund can't transfer to another person anymore. I always book when it's average price, then keep checking to see if it lowers. I'm usually flexible with my days, so that helps too.

I've noticed when flights first become available, like 6 months out, it's at it's cheapest. Then within 1 month of the flight they start lowering them again to fill up the plane.
