Why cut backs on Fantasmic and not Illuminations?

I've been really bummed about the Fantasmic cut backs and having one more thing to figure into my plans for our upcoming trip and then this morning I realized that there is still Illuminations every night. Not fair to those of us that prefer F! Why not alternate which show gets the cut backs?

Far more specially-skilled/trained (higher-pay-level) CAST MEMBERS necessary to run Fantasmic!

It also takes a large crew of CM's just to operate the theater.

I started a thread here yesterday.

It began when I read a thread in the DVC section about Illuminations.

They are saying that mid-week Illuminations is running but with a shorter show. The full show is on for the weekends.

I have not personally seen it so was asking if anyone else noticed. It's my DH's favorite show and missing one of the sections would be a big disappointment for him.

Illuminations is far more automated and equipment/machine based. Fantasmic requires dozens of human CMs. Humans cost more money in the short term than the machines.

Which is why technology will be the death of humanity - not because they'll rise up against us like the Matrix or anything, but because technology will eventually eliminate so many jobs that humans now hold that there will be rampant unemployment, no money because of no jobs, no people buying anything because they have no jobs to give them money, which will lead to other businesses going under, making everything worse, and eventually we'll probably all kill each other in a giant war because of it all... enjoy. :)

What about the people that actually work with the technology? Technology can't necessarily function and/or repair itself--humans still have to do that. Illuminations may be more technology based, but who's behind the scenes controlling everything? It's not another robot or anything like that, it's trained technicians. In the future, the job force may just shift to emphasizing different jobs than what we have now rather than none at all. Who knows, maybe we won't even need to work/work as hard in the far future and we'll still be OK.

The intent of cutting back Fantasmic! is to encourage Guests to attend the finale show of The American Idol Experience. Officially.

Also, Illumiations is consistently rated highly by Guests and industry surveys, usually ending up as one of the top fireworks shows in the world.

It would in no way surprise me if they cutback Wishes and Illuminations as well.In the eighties and nineties this was common..fireworks shows were only shown Fri- Sun and everyday during peak travel times.

We just did 2 days at DL-midweek so no fireworks. There's something very VERY wrong about leaving MK (any MK anywhere!) without seeing fireworks :sad2:

Fantasmic now twice on Mo, Tue, Thu in June. Spectromagic daily twice in second half of june.

How does that work? Last week, the AI finale was at 7:00 and over long before Fantasmic began. Do the two showtimes usually overlap more?

I don't think it's that they overlap I think it's that if you go to AI you really may not get a seat for Fantasmic. We went to the finale of AI and left before it was over so we could get to Fantasmic for seating. It was a mad house.

IMO they could just ditch Illuminations altogether, the would not hurt my feeling at all. Watching a globe spin around is not my idea of fun. Fantasmic Rules.

The fireworks of Illuminations are awesome, probably the best at WDW. The globe spin I could do without. Illuminations is a "must see" for me every trip. I have not seen Fantasmic in 3 years (and that was only because I took my niece) and really don't care if I see it again, especially considering you have to waste alot of time waiting.

Gah! Don't give them more cutback ideas!

IMO they could ditch Fantasmic. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Another thing about Illuminations is that a lot more people can participate in it. You don't have to line up for an hour and sit in a theater to see it. So you have less cast members putting on a show for more people. Plus you have most of those people in the World Showcase shopping right up to fireworks time. Win,Win,Win for Disney's bottom line.:cool1:

so i dont see a second showing of fantasmic listed for the month of september...i presume theyve eliminted it that month...well crap!!!

They did not really cut back Fantasmic. It orignally was always only a few nights a week.

It went to every night as part of the YOMD celebration which was then extended.

Fantasmic has now returned to its original scheduling of a few nights a week.

No people in Illuminations (just behind the scenes) vs. tons of people in Fantasmic (plus those behind the scenes).
