Why choose HHI and Vero beach as a home resort?

Hello!

DH and I are looking into buying DVC and were looking at the re-sales listing on TTS. We noticed quite a few listings for HHI and Vero for very good prices. Here's my question: Aside from the price, why choose these as home resorts? Am I missing something? If I don't plan on going to my home resort (If I were to choose one of these and buy in) and plan on vacationing only at Disneyworld DVC resorts what are the disadvantages aside from beng able to book only 7 months out?

I was thinking, at the price they are selling (some as low as 65/point) I could buy more points and vacation longer than buying a WDW home resort for more $$/point and less points.

Can't wait to hear from all of your opinions!

The biggest reason to buy any resort is to be able to take advantage of the 11 month reservation priority at that resort. If you don't plan to stay there and will only make reservations within 7 months then it doesn't really matter what your Home resort may be, but you should be prepared to be more flexible with your choice of resort, villa type or dates.

You might also want to consider the maintenance fees at the resort you purchase, since most members will find that their annual fees will far outpace the purchase price paid over the time of ownership.

If your primary interest is staying onsite at WDW, then it might be best to own at one of the onsite resorts. Reserving at a non-home resort within 7 months can certainly be accomplished, but it's wise to be prepared for occasional disappointment.

Good luck with your decision! :)

Since we have owned our points at HH, we have used WDW points for HH vacations but never used any HH points for WDW vacations. We bought at HH to be able to assure the 11 month window for the accommodations of our choosing in the seasons we wish to vacation. We then fill in at the end or beginning at 7 months (if necessary) with other points we own.

The annual dues for HHI are higher than any of the DVC on WDW property. If you plan on not utilizing HHI that often and plan to use your points to stay at WDW most of the time it is advantageous to purchase a DVC on WDW property. In the long run you will save quite a bit of cash (Just my .02).

If the DVC at WLV that my family and I our in the process of purchasing works out in a couple of years we plan to make a second DVC purchase at HHI. We love the idea of having a 5 day vacation there once a year in the summer (the hardest time to get a reservation inside of 11 months from what I hear).

The MF's at OKW are a full $.60/pt cheaper than HH and are not that far off from resale prices. You would also get 11 mo priority for an onsite location. I would recommend OKW if onsite is your main purpose. Although, SSR has a longer contract and ROFR prices are dropping and even lower MF's. For the difference in price, I would either select OKW or SSR, since MF's will only continue to go up and the purchase price is a one time payment.

We bought our HH add on to ensure our HH vacation every summer in July. We love it there. Our HH points are for HH.

We  visiting Hilton Head. The marshlands and the beach are both wonderful. Its a very natural environment. I'm a bit of a history/architecture nut and we love going to Savannah on day trips. The 300 y.o. live oak trees draping over the streets also have a very calming effect on your soul. I hear VB is lovely as well. I still wouldn't be willing to drive from VB to go to WDW every day. Lastly, you can definitely hear people walking on the floors above you at Hilton Head.

If you want to go to WDW at non-peak DVC times, and have a desire to go to Hilton Head sometimes, then I think it is worth considering.

Like PPs have said, check out the price per/point of okw, and MFs and see if that is still something you want to do.

Good Luck!
