Why cash not points for disney cruise

I have 315 points and used my points for 7 day cruise with my wife and then spent 4days BCV. If I had to pay for the cruise it would have cost me over $3000.00 for the room we wanted. I then still had points left to stay at WDW or I could have saved them to come back. So I am just wondering why people are saying to use cash for a cruise instead of using points.

It's a personal choice and it really depends on alot of things.

If you book early and receive the early booking discount, plus a cruise credit, the cruise can price out cheaper by paying cash.

I always pay cash, because we book early enough to take advantage of all the discounts and credits. Our last 7 day DCL cruise Double Dip we paid $2600 and upgraded to a Cat 6 at the port for $400 more. That was for all 4 of us.

Another reason is by the time DVC releases the point schedules for the cruises, the cruises have been open to cash paying guests for months. So if you want a specific location on the ship or stateroom, with DVC, you get what is left, which may not be your first choice(s).

Another reason is that your points upon booking a cruise are turned into reservation points and cannot be used for any of the DVC resorts. So if there is a need to cancel, you have reservation points to use and it takes alot more reservation points per night than it does DVC points per night.

I like the more flexible cancellation policy of cash bookings. I can book almost 2 years out, get discounts and credits, put down $250 per person and have until 90 days prior to sailing to pay it off or cancel and get my deposit back.

I can stay 2 full weeks in a SSR studio during Christmas for 326 points so another reason is point management.

It really depends what you planned on doing with the points to begin with to determine whether to use points or cash.

Ive just always found that for us, cash works better and covers the "what ifs".
