a TAX DEDUCTION!!!!

I thought I had our taxes finished and the bottom line wasn't too awful until my accountant buddy looked them over and found one major league mistake. A deduction we'd been able to take in the past we can't any more....I need more deductions so I have to ask why can't all those scrapbooking supplies and photography purchases be a tax deduction?

Oh but it can be if you are a Scrapping Consultant (ie, Creative Memories, or any of the others).

you actually have to SELL SOMETHING to take a deduction correct???
I just buy - although I am a consultant...
not sure how that is going to work - and afraid of dh seeing how much I spent on JUST CM stuff let alone all the other stuff!

Yes, you actually have to sell something for it to be a business and as I recall you have to actually show a profit every so often or it is disallowed as well. I had my own consulting business for a time (not scrapping related) and found that it really wasn't worth it, for me anyway. Probably because I was doing it as a sideline to my teaching responsibilities.

If you let your customers use your cutting tools and such, you can write those off. Again, that would mean that you are selling stuff to have customers. You'd probably have to sell at a profit and not just at cost too.

Now there is a thought! Not sure if it would make the minimum needed to make it an actual deduction but it might be close!
