OK, we live in the Indianapolis area and our kids have school in the morning on Monday. There are several schools in the Indy area that are actually CLOSED on Monday since the Colts are in the Superbowl and the game is on late. I wish our kids would be off!!! Between that and the fact that the windchills are going to be in the -20 degree range tomorrow, I wish my kids could just stay home on Monday!! Just another rant!!!

It would be nice. We are in chicago and it will be freezing tomorrow. We have a superbowl party to go to today and as much as we say we will leave right after the game I know that probably won't happen. I swear I hate school more now then when I was actually the one going to school! (of course my kids don't know that and I know the kids need it)

We have sorority bid night tonight (I am west of Indy) and pref round today where we wear dresses and heals...it's -14 at the moment. They pushed back sorority bid night to 1130 or midnight because of the superbowl...then we all have class tomorrow morning.

:rotfl: I remember when the Braves were in the World Series. We'd stay up until 1am(you know they always go into overtime) and have to drag ourselves to school the next day. For 7 days straight. I often wondered why we didn't just have that week off.

It's a shame that a school will cancel classes due to a local football team in the Super Bowl, but will force children to stand outside in -20 air for a bus.

Wow~closing for the Superbowl. Well here if the windchill is -20 or more schools are closed. We have a high number of walkers intown.

Closing school because of a football game? I'm sorry, but that's one of the most pathetic things I have ever heard. Priorities people.

I couldn't agree more, and I am sitting deep in Bears country! It is fun to get swept up in the momentum - my daughters elementary school earned an assembly Friday for excellent behavior (they are a PBIS school) and they let the kids have a Superbowl party. But cancel school? No.

Couldn't agree with you more. It's a game. What about cancelling because the Survivor finally is on late or the Oscars or something else totally ridiculous. Do you know that the day after the Superbowl has the most people calling in sick. How pathetic.

Maybe instead of complaining about the schools, why not complain that the NFL broadcasts the game too late. Would it kill anyone to start the game at 3:00? :confused3

I'm the OP, and I TOTALLY agree with this 100%!!!! I don't understand why the game has to be so late! Is it because of the people that live on the West Coast? Even if it started at 3pm, it would be 12 noon there!!! These poor kids want to stay up and watch the game and it will probably be 11pm before they get to sleep. What I may do is have them get their pajamas on before the game starts and if they fall asleep, then at least I can say they got some rest!!!

Great Point! :thumbsup2

For a woman I am a pretty big football fan. Even though my team isn't in the game I would watch the entire thing if it were on earlier or even on a Saturday night. Tonight, I might catch the first half of the game but I wont make myself suffer tomorrow over it. Those West Coasters certainly luck out today! ;)

And then society wants blame the schools- lets take a look at the priorities of parents!

Its now -2 degrees with a windchill of -12. If it doesn't warm up, I think they will at least have a 2 hour delay in the morning. My DS catches the bus at 6:50am so I hope that when its this cold they can at least wait until the sun comes out to warm it up a little.

DS keeps hoping for a 2 hour superbowl delay which isn't going to happen, but I do think they may have a weather one.

While I may not agree to cancelling school because of a game, I do think it's too cold for the kids to be out walking or waiting on a bus. I'll be driving my girl to her bus stop, but I do that every day. We like that little bit of time together while waiting.

I agree! Or, why the heck don't they move it to Saturday?!

We'd love to have some friends over to watch the game, but we all have kids and they have school in the morning.

I agree about cancelling or delaying school due to the weather.... but not a football game. Sorry. What are the working parents supposed to do with their kids because I'm sure work isn't cancelled?

I know they have the same issues for illness and weather but how much $$ will be lost by businesses/families who have to miss work if their kids are out of school?

I live in GA and last year the Gov. closed schools for 1 or 2 days (announced late Fri for Mon and Tues) to save fuel. That didn't go over well. We also get grumbling when schools close due to the "threat" of bad weather. If the Falcon's ever get to the Super Bowl :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl: again maybe I'll agree with the OP. Somehow I just don't think it'll be an issue with us for awhile. :rolleyes1

To the original poster, if you don't want your kids to go to school, simply don't send them, period. Call them in and tell the office it is simply too cold. That is your choice as a parent.

Don't listen to all the people who said you are being pathetic either. I was just watching TV and they were saying that today is becoming "holiday" like in many parts of the country. It is celebrated by so many people. It is a HUGE deal...whether some people like it or not.

And moving Super Bowl Sunday to Saturday.....LOL!!!! That is the funniest thing I have heard all week. It'll never happen.

This is not a valid reason for any decision in my opinion. One of my biggest pet peeves is people who think school is a day care for their children.
If school is cancelled for ANY reason it is the parents job to care for them, or find childcare, even if they have to pay for it. Talk about priorities.
