Why can't I get the discount

Just wondering how the discount works. Do they only supply a few rooms for the code? I have reservations at AKL and called today to see if I could get the discount. They said I would have to upgrade to get it. The upgrade with the discount is more than what I am paying now. Why can't they just use the room I already have and give the discount?

I'm bummed out....

P.S. anybody know how to put pictures in here?

Yes discounted rooms tend to be limited and they may choose to discount certain categories and not others on particular nights based on occupancy rates.

The number of discounted rooms are limited. It doesn't make business sense to go back and offer discounts on rooms already reserved when they are already close to capacity.

By booking your room it no way makes it available for a discount. If anything it has an opposite affect. Disney sees your room as already sold so need to discount it. The way it works is that Disney pulls up a matching reservation exactly like the one you have and if it has a discount on it, they will book it and actually put yours back into the computer. Booking a room in hopes to have a discount applied is a bad practice and some believe this is what lead to the new BRP that we have today. I'm not saying you've done this....but many folks would book a room at rack rate, then when discounts came out, they would switch to a discounted room, leaving disney with lots of empty rooms that disney thought were reserved at rack rate. The result: the new best rate program. But as other posters mentioned, there are a very small limited amount of discounted rooms and standard rooms are very rare. I've never gotten a standard room at WL at a discount, usually only woods view. I was trying to change my AKL standard room ressie for early December yesterday by adding a day to it, but was told I could only do that if I wanted to move to pool view.

We always book rack rate. We apply a discount if one becomes available. If not, we pay rack rate. I'm not sure what you are saying n2mm. Are you saying no one should book a room until a discount becomes available if they intend to use that discount? You seem to be blaming BRP on people who book early and then apply a discount if one becomes available. How else should it be done? If I book early at rack rate and a discount later becomes available, should I decline that discount? Say what?

If we waited until discounts come out (if at all), we would never have a room for our annual F&W trip. I book our BWV in January for October. Otherwise, I wouldn't get it! This year, for the first time in a couple of years, I got a discount with BRP at 60 days out. Yipee! We're not paying rack rate this year!

I booked with BRP and then cancelled the reservation I had made last January. How else should this be done? Should I not book the room I want so that the inventory looks fuller and others are more likely to get discounts? Sorry, no can do!

I book at rack rate and apply a discount later, if possible. And, I for one, am happy with BRP. As I said, it's the first time in a couple of years we haven't had to pay rack rate!

lyncruiser, you actually do it correctly. You book the room at the rate you intend to pay if a discount does not come out. The problem lies in the folks who book more than they intend to pay if no discount comes out. I too book a room I can afford to pay. Yes if there's a discount and it can be applied...yea! But there are so many on the boards who book resorts that they do not intend to stay at if no discount comes out. So at the last minute these room get canceled. This is what the BRP is trying to fix. Drives me nuts when I see a thread complaining that someone can not stay at GF concerige because disney did not give them a discount this year (the nerve of Disney)...now they HAVE to stay at a moderate. As a CM family for many years we have enjoyed a wonderful discount which is released a year in advance, there are many places I wouldn't even stay at half off which are way out of my price range. But there are times when even these discounts are not available and yes, we have paid rack rate too! But we are proud to announce that we joined the DVC this year and we are so glad we did it, with all of the changes with room discounts now...it was time!

I would give it another try and call again. You could very well get a different answer from a different CM. Give them the code # and ask if they can apply it to your existing reserv.

Thanks. I'll try again on Monday. I am going no matter what. Just tried to get AKL at a discount. Figured if I saved a few $$$ on the room I could spend it somewhere else at DW. No matter what I'll still spend the same amount of money.
