Why can't I get a decent photo on that blasted Peter Pan ride?

This round: Frog, bat and watusi! :thumbsup2

The Lion King show looks good-- I'll try to check it out next time!

Hooray for the prodigal plate returning home! :wizard:

Sorry about your slight disappointment with the safari and the push out of the park. Sounds like you made the best of it all though, and next time you'll know what to expect. Still, those were some nice nighttime shots.

Thanks for the update. I always look forward to more. :)

P.S. - I think that was Daisy that needed a bath! Don't worry, I won't tell Donald what you said. ;)

Those are my favorites as well :)

You should definitely check out the Lion King. I think it is their best live entertainment. I have some good pictures from another day when we saw it again.

I still don't know how that plate got back to me but I was sure glad to get my hands on it again. I made sure that I kept an eye on it for the rest of the trip so that it did stray too far.

We still had a good time with the safari. I am glad we experienced it even if I wanted more from it.

I have some nice night pictures coming to wrap up the day that I should be able to post tomorrow so stay tuned.

P.S. - I think that was Daisy that needed a bath! Don't worry, I won't tell Donald what you said. ;)

Oh my gosh. I didn't look close enough at that. Forget about Donald, don't ever tell Daisy I said that ok?

What lens are you carrying with you? I saw them in the earlier pic put can't make out the particulars. Thanks

Hi disneydentist.

I carried 5 lenses around
1. 24-70mm f/2.8L - This is my general use lens. It is a great walkaround lens.
2. 17-40mm f/4L - When I want to get a wider view.
3. 50mm f/1.8 - Mostly for dark rides where a larger aperture is needed.
4. 70-200mm f/4L - When I want to zoom in more than the 24-70.
5. 300mm f/4L IS - This is my largest lens and about as large as I want to carry around. It is a fabulous lens but since it is a prime lens there is no zoom.

When we got back to our room we had this little creature waiting for us. I am not quite sure what was. Perhaps a butterfly? My kids wanted me to take a picture so I obliged.
large.jpg

Our housekeepers were good about leaving us things most days. Note that the fact that I am pretty sure that the fact that I left a decent tip each day had something to do with this while my SIL next door did not tip as much and were not getting the creatures left in their room.

Sadly, I had to actually log into work to get something done for my job after getting back but I had absolutely zero motivation to do it at this point. I am sure many of you already think I am crazy for working on my vacation but it was a necessary evil. Since I am a champ at procrastinating I decided that while the rest of the family got ready for bed I would head off for more photo ops. I wanted to make my way over to the Magic Kingdom which was having PM EMH. Since it was just me I was able to avoid the Disney busses and drive over. I wasn’t going to actually get on any of the rides though. I am not really comfortable getting on rides by myself. Just one of my many idiosyncrasies. I somewhat got over this later in the trip though. For this night, I just wanted to wander around and enjoy the night atmosphere. I had a good time walking through the park and soaking it all in. I did stop and help a few people with their own photos along the way. I even lent my tripod to someone and provided some tips. Here are some of my pictures:

I stayed until a little after 12:30AM and then made my way back. I had to face the music when I got back and get my work done. I logged in and worked for about and hour but then started to get too tired. I think I procrastinated too much this time. I had until 9AM to send something out though so I figured I would get about 4 1/2 hours of sleep and then get up early and finish up. Yes I acknowledge that I am in need of professional help.

OMG-- gorgeous!!! I wouldn't know where to begin to pick a top 3. Seriously. That teacups shot is amazing though, as are the carrousel shots. Those are some real beauties you have in this set. Truly magical. Where are you when I'm wandering around at night trying to get a decent picture? It's times like that I'd love some advice!

P.S. - I think it's a batbunny.

so in love with this thread!!! really begining to get excite about our upcoming trip, hope to get a few good pictures!!!

Thank you Missus Toad :) I also like the longer exposure shots of moving rides. One thing to note is that I did not just get all of these pictures the way I wanted with just one shot. Especially for when there is movement. For example on the tea cups I took 5 shots. For the carousel I took 3 shots.

Oh and if you want advise on something in particular you don't need me there since we only head down one every 2 years. You can ask me anytime and I can try to assist. I am certainly not an expert and I have a lot to still learn but I may be able to assist.

P.S. - I think it's a batbunny.
What the heck is a batbunny. I thought you were joking but I just did a google search and I see results. Go figure.

Hi veronica. Welcome!! Thank you. I am glad that you enjoy my pictures and ramblings. I hope you have a great trip. When are you going?

And thanks for the offer of help with photography. I may take you up on it! :goodvibes

I love the way you compose your shots! The night photos convey how the park has a different feel from the daytime. I like your report writing too, your sense of humor. Keep it coming! :goodvibes

Hi Rozz. Thank you very much for your comments. There definitely is different feel in the parks at night. I love it. MK and EPCOT are the two best parks in my opinion as far as walking around to see the night atmosphere.

I hope to start Day 5 tomorrow so stay tuned.

We were planning on heading to Typhoon Lagoon today. Since it did not open until 10AM we had some time in the morning to take it a little slower. This was a good thing since I had to finish up that cursed assignment for my job and shoot it out in the AM. While I was working my wife awoke and had some news to tell me. We apparently had a glitch in our plans. I am not sure how to say this properly or if I even should because it is probably TMI but what the heck, we are all friends here right. My wife uses an expression that "her friend is visiting" at a certain time each month. Well her "friend" came for a visit earlier than expected this month. Apparently her "friend" was excited to spend some time in Disney as well and could not wait to visit. My wife won't go in pools at these times. I don't ask. I don't need to know any more details about it. It's just the way it is. Ok, I suppose we can move past this and we won't bring it up again. Suffice it to say, we decided that we would shelve our plans for Typhoon Lagoon and we will possibly go at the tail end of the trip. So, what to do? I offered a suggestion that we head to Downtown Disney. We could browse a little, eat lunch there and then perhaps hit Disney Quest afterwards. We had never been to Disney Quest before so why not give it a look. My SIL's family wanted to stay put today at Pop so we are on our own.

We got to DTD and wandered around the stores for a bit. I am not overly excited about shopping which makes me seem pretty darned foolish for suggesting it in the first place doesn't it? There is no need to answer that. My lack of excitement probably stems from the fact that I don't have a desire to part with more of my money on things that we don't really need when we already have a house full of junk. Sorry, not to imply that Disney merchandise is junk. My house is an equal opportunity junk storage facility with plenty of non-Disney junk to clutter it. Anyway, at least DTD has some interesting stores so browsing is not all that painful for me.

Here are a few pics I took along the way of our travels on this morning.

Of course we can't get out of there without me giving some money to the mouse. The big pin store for one thing is evil but unavoidable. I am not getting past that store without having to have some money sucked out of me to get the wife and kids some more pins which they eventually end up trading away anyway.

Once lunch time rolled around we decided to eat at Wolfgang Puck Express. This is one of the best CS establishments on Disney property in my opinion. The food as usual was great. Since I don't have a heck of a lot to talk about in this shopping excursion I will give you my opinion of the best CS restaurants on Property:

1. MK - Cosmic Rays - The chicken and ribs combo is a winner, a good fixin's bar for burgers and of course an added bonus of Sonny Eclipse to entertain you. Honorable mention to Columbia Harbor House and my new friend the Anchors Aweigh sandwich.
2. EPCOT - Sunshine Seasons - This has to be the best overall pick in EPCOT with good entree choices and great desserts. There are many great places in the world showcase too though.
3. AK - Flame tree. Of course. nuf said
4. DS - Tough one since nothing stands out but since you asked, I guess I will have to go with Studio Catering Co since the Chicken with rice and black beans was very good.
5. DTD - Wolfgang Pucks Express - great selections and all that we have tried are good. Though we did try Earl of Sandwich and that was very good as well. You can't go wrong with either.
6. Resorts - I can't say we eat CS as the resorts very often besides breakfasts which all seem pretty much the same. We have gone to Pepper Market for lunch/dinner which gets good marks for the food but I am not so keen on the set up of the place.

As we were eating we talked about what to do next. It turns out that one seemed overly excited about Disney Quest so we decided we would hit a park. After finishing lunch we headed to the bus stops but could not find a stop for any of the parks. I asked the driver of first bus that pulled in and he clued me in that there were no direct routes from DTD to any parks not even the Ticket and Transportation Center. I am not really sure why but I am guessing to prevent people from avoiding parking fees at the parks? If that is the case then I wonder, would a lot of people really want to go through all that hassle of taking a bus from DTD to a Park just to save a parking fee? If they are willing to go through all pain then wouldn't they also be willing to just to bus to a resort and then over to a park? Perhaps I have it wrong and it is just a low demand thing. Anyway, Since we were going to have a take a bus to a resort and then transfer to a park bus from there we figured that this bus was as good as any so we hopped on and were en route to POR. When we got to POR we still hadn't decided what our ultimate destination was going to be. It was 1:30 PM at this point and we had to be back at Pop later to make our way to Ohana with my SIL's family for a 6:30 Dinner reservation so I figured we would have only a few hours max. So we decided to leave our park choice to chance and take the first bus that came along. Well, the first bus happened to be for Disney Hollywood Studios. Ugh, we are going there tomorrow and it is my least favorite park. There is TSMM to get excited about trying for the first time but that is not going to happen at this time in the afternoon. So we change the rules and decide we will take the second bus that comes along or more appropriately the next park bus that comes along that is not going to DHS. The next bus rolls in and it is headed to AK. OK, well we were there yesterday but what the heck. We didn't see ITTBB yesterday and we are always up to see the Lion King again so we hop on.

When we got to AK there were some characters outside. We weren't itching to see any of these particular characters but there was hardly anyone there and it would have been rude of us to just walk by without saying hello.

OK, that "for the birds" comment was uncalled for. I profusely apologize. The truly sad part is that I actually said it to my wife.

We made our way over to the Tree of Life to see ITTBB.

I snapped a couple pics of the Tree of life on the way in
large.jpg

I like this close up of the tree.
large.jpg

We got into the theater grabbed our glasses and waited for the show. There are some great posters in the waiting area that you should check out if you go in there and have some time to kill before the show. They are posters of old movies reworked with bug themes. They were a hoot. I wish I took pictures of some of them but I was not thinking. Eventually we were corralled in and we sat and enjoyed the show. It is not in the same league as Philharmagic but it is entertaining nonetheless.

After the show there was a CM outside handling large spiders. The kids want to go over to look. Ok, but didn't we see these spiders last night at our not-so-Grand Gathering Safari Dinner? The kids still wanted to look and we still had time to kill before Lion King so we let them head over.

I did my usual and took a pic or two while waiting.
large.jpg

We eventually made our way over to Camp Minnie Mickey. One great thing about walking around the parks is that I always see new things when I am not rushing and I take the time to look around at the outstanding theming that Disney incorporates into these parks. It truly is unparalleled to any other theme park I have visited. Here is an example of something I saw on the way over a bridge to Camp Minnie Mickey that I had never picked up before. Nothing tremendously exciting but I never noticed it before. Just look around and you will see so much.

large.jpg

FOLK is coming up in a bit...

We made our way to the FOLK theater and we headed in. Once again we were directed to the same area as always. There must be some communique distributed to the CMs that if they see our family we must be sent to the Elephant section or else severe disciplinary actions will be taken. The theater was pretty empty. Less than 1/4 full. As we walked over, I made a bold decision to be a rebel and made a break for it and we followed some people into the Lion section instead. It was a daring move and fortunately no alarms went off and security did not come to escort us away. This act of defiance turned out to be worth it since it was good to have a slightly different viewpoint for the show.

Here are some pics I took during the show. I held off showing pics our previous day of the "fire guy" because I liked these better.

After the show the kids decided they want to try Dinosaur. This surprised me but was not about to fight it. I do like this ride. We head on over to see my friend again.

large.jpg

I like this pic better than the one I took yesterday

I decided this time I will attempt to take some pics on the ride acknowledging that it is probably just foolishness. It's like trying to take a photo while riding an angry bull. Not that I have tried that yet. I was actually was able to get a photo which gave me a glimmer of hope that I could achieve something on the ride. Unfortunately it the picture was somewhat ruined by the fact that I have a large shadow of someone sitting in front of me that detracts from it. It does make me think that if I am ever crazy enough to try to take a photo again on this ride (who am I kidding, of course I am crazy enough) I may be able to get a passable photo. Next time I'll see if I can wait a little longer and ask for a front row seat though.

large.jpg

I will now show you a ride picture to give you an idea of what I often look like in a ride photo. I am in the last row with the camera planted on my face
IMG_8340.jpg

I thought this ride would scare the bejesus out of my kids but my daughter actually liked it and wanted to do it again. Go figure. My son was not as eager though to give it another go and he had his sights set on other things. He wanted to show me a little stuffed Yeti he saw the day before that he might want as a souvenir. I told my kids earlier that I was only going to buy them each one souvenir during the trip. This helps prevent the "I want" chorus as we go every where. At this point he was torn between this little Yeti and a bucket of Green aliens he saw at DTD earlier(he does love Buzz). He wanted to show me the Yeti since he wanted my "opinion" (smart boy). So we headed off to Asia in search of the elusive Yeti. We got over and found the little guy. My son has been good and has not asked for anything at all so far so I decided to buy it for him and I would still get him the green aliens (or something else) later in the trip. He really loved this cute little stuffed depiction of a horrifying monster. For the rest of the trip he came along with us and he often got a great vantage point as we walked around by having a special seat on my son's safari hat. I should have taken a picture of this but I missed the opportunity.

After we regrouped it was almost 5PM and we had to get moving in order to make it back to Pop, catch up with SIL's family, then bus on over to MK and then take the monorail over to the Poly for our 6:30PM Dinner. At this point I know you are thinking, "I have read enough of this trip report to acknowledge that you do indeed have mental problems but have you completely lost all your marbles, why the heck are you heading all over the friggin place when you can just take the bus straight over to Poly from AK?" Well, sure, that makes sense for normal people. OK, let me explain. First of all my wife wanted to head over with her sister's family together and second (and more importantly) I wanted to get my tripod to take along for the evening since I wanted another chance of shooting Wishes from Main Street. This time I planned to be prepared though for Wishes. I was going to hold on tight to my tripod head and plate.

We made our way out of the park quickly and got to the bus stop. On the way back the cursed bus has to stop at Blizzard Beach first. Ugh, they hit you both directions on this Blizzard Beach stop. You have to stop there first on the way over to AK and instead of picking them up first on the return ride you need to hit it after AK on the way back. Normally this would not bother me but time is ticking and I have a thing about being late. So while waiting at BB my wife calls SIL to make sure they are getting ready to go and I tell her to inform them we may need to drive over to the Poly. Driving still did not seem to be a happening thing with them. When we got back to Pop and I quickly moved to our room to get my tripod and some other things and to mobilize my SIL's family. We got to the Pop stop and it is raining. Fortunately we have ponchos we can throw on. These ponchos were once again life savers. Probably the most important thing we carried around with us (well, other than my camera equipment that is). We got on the bus to MK and are on our way. At MK it was still raining so we jogged in the rain to the monorail and hopped on. We actually got to the podium for Ohana a few minutes before our check in time. This was not bad condsidering the excursion we went though to get there. Well, I guess there was no need to rush because they were running behind at least 25 min. So it was time to get a load off in the lounge area. While waiting I took some pics of the surroundings but I should have explored more though. Since it was really raining hard outside I wasn't about to go outside but I should have looked around more inside the Poly. I have since seen some interesting pictures from the Gift Shop that I am kicking myself for not seeing myself. Here are some pics from just outside Ohana.

large.jpg

large.jpg

large.jpg

Once we got seated we had a great meal and all around good time at Ohana. The consensus was that this Dinner was one of the best we had on the trip. Unfortunately I could not eat the bread pudding for dessert but my wife raved about it. Instead of the bread pudding they brought me a whole lot of fresh fruit which was excellent. The fresh pineapple was especially outstanding.. There was plenty to share with the table.

Here is a pictures of the inside. Not the best but I was more interested in eating that photography.

Coming up next is MK and my second attempt to capture Wishes from Main St...

I subbed to your TR - but wanted to post to compliment you on your pictures!!! AWESOME! I love the way you capture the subject and the colors are truly incredible!! Thanks so much for sharing your talents with the rest of us... your pictures make my memories come alive in my head!! Can't wait to see more! THANKS!

This round: Pink bird, Tree of Life (wider) and sleepy tiki, although again, there were a lot of other really awesome one too. The fire dancer shots were very cool. Again, I must see this show. The photopass shot rocks!

I had to laugh about how you felt obligated to go say hi to the lonely characters. I get that same feeling! I wonder if they care?

The DTD bus situation is nightmarish for me, and why I avoid it if I can.

I totally concur on the CS places. I'm a big fan of CHH. :thumbsup2

Glad you enjoyed Ohana. It's always hit or miss for me, but when it's good, it's great! And yeah, I totally recommend spending more time exploring the Poly. So many hidden treasures.

Thanks for the update!

I just discovered your trip report tonight. Your photos are amazing! I am enjoying reliving the magic through the pictures! :wizard:

Thank you again Missus Toad. I have a tough time picking favs from this day. I was not really into it as much when we were in DTD but got more pics I like in AK. I did like the way some of the FOLK pics turned out. Definitely you need to see the show. I think it is their best live show.

:) I agree. They probably don't mind it but it does seem strange to just walk past them when there is no one there.

The DTD bus situation is nightmarish for me, and why I avoid it if I can.
Ugh. I agree. I think I am driving there from now on. We had a horrible experience once before with a bus there once before heading back to SSR. We were stuck for an hour on the bus.

I totally concur on the CS places. I'm a big fan of CHH. :thumbsup2
I am definitely going there again next trip. I think I will try their hummus sw as well. Great food there.

Definitely a hit this trip. We have never tried Kona and I think I will try that next trip and make more time to explore and perhaps watch wishes from the beach.

Welcome kdzbear. Thank you for finding me. I'll try to keep it interesting. I think I still have a lot of good photos to share. Thank you.

After dinner, the rain had yhankfully stopped so we headed over to MK. I was going to try to get another opportunity of capturing wishes shots from Main St with the castle. My SIL and her family were heading back to the resort so we parted ways. We got into the park and whoa main street was lined with people already. I thought we had time before the 10PM Wishes but I totally missed the fact that they were showing Spectro at 9PM. OK there were far too many people on Main street at this point for us to get a good vantage point for anything so I decided we would make our way further into the park. We found a great spot on the other side of the bridge coming from the hub into Liberty Square. We were on the Liberty Square side I took a picture of the castle while waiting.

large.jpg

So then my wife says to me aren't you better off on the opposite side of the path so that you can take pictures with the castle in the background. I am glad someone has a brain in the family. There were a lot of people over there but it looked like there was some open space. The rest of the family stayed put and I went to the other side. In retrospect this was probably not the best thing to do. The space that looked open had to stay that way. It was an emergency exit path for the parade. A CM kept coming by telling people they could not stand there. How likely would it be that they need that right? Well, more likely than one would think. Anyway, I made sure not to stand in the forbidden zone and I had to stand behind someone else who was right at the line of the forbidden zone but on the acceptable side of the line. So, I would need to contort my body around this person to get pictures.

Eventually we saw the parade start to come our way but just when it got to the beginning of the bridge it came to a halt and it ended up stalled for a very long time. I had too many people to the right of me blocking my view to see what was going on. It was very strange. All I could see was one of the parade characters up high on one of those the giant ball things and he kept making his same movements to the music over and over and over again. The poor guy must have been going crazy up there but he was dedicated to his craft and he kept it up the whole time. The CM kept coming by to our area telling people to keep the path clear because they were going to be using it. Disney staff were rushing past us talking into radios headed to the parade. After waiting a bit more they wheeled a stretcher past us and over the bridge over to the direction of the parade. Yikes, this did not look good. I'm pretty sure that's not supposed to be part of the parade. At this point I am just hoping that whatever it is turns out to be not too bad but it is certainly ominous. Then after a while longer they wheeled a man right past us in the stretcher. The crowd was clapping for him and I saw him nod his head back to us as he passed right by so it seemed like a good sign that he was not in that bad a shape. At least I hoped so. After this excitement subsided it was about 9:40 and the parade started up again. It did turn out after all that I was in a good vantage point and I think the castle in the background added to some of the pictures. I'll probably look to use this area in the future as long as I can get there early enough so that I can be in front.

Notice anything missing in this picture?

After the parade had passed us by it was about 10PM. I made my way back across the path to my family and my wife told me that my son was upset and they wanted to leave and get back to the resort. Apparently they saw the whole thing. The lead trumpeter on the first float had some type of a seizure and they watched him writhing the whole time. You can see in the first picture I posted of the parade that there is no lead trumpeter. This got my son very disturbed. He doesn't like to see people in discomfort or pain. Who does? but it really bothered him and he wanted to leave at that time this was occurring in the parade but there was nowhere to go from their side of the street. They were blocked in. So they were ready to go now. At this point I was not even sure if wishes was going to go off that night. I wanted another shot at it but it was already past 10PM and since my son was upset I decided we would all head back to the resort. We made our way back to the bus stop and just before getting on we heard Wishes starting. Oh well, we still have Dinner at Narcoossee's where we will watch wishes and we have a Wishes cruise so we will see the show plenty of times. As far as pics from Main street though I am now hitting 0-2 and running out of at bats. I may have only one more opportunity and that is for Hallowishes during MNSSHP later in the week.

The rest of the night was uneventful. Basically getting the kids to bed spending a bit more time on the computer and then going to sleep myself. Tomorrow (Day 6) is going to be our DHS day.

Anastasia came to our table first and she was a blast. She had our table in stitches with her attitude. She posed for a few pictures with the family making sure to give us funny faces.

How fun! But is it me or does Anastasia have some chest hairs?!! (must be my eyes - my daughter says it's freckles. :rotfl2:)

Love these pics of the Fairies!

I love the book titles

These are SO cute! I remember the last time I visited Mickey & Minnie's houses, they had the rooms roped off. Can't wait to take my grandson next year - he'll be three and really will enjoy it!
