Why can't I buy 150pts then do 120pt add-on for the incentive?

Some have suggested buying 150 points at SSR at the $87/per point discount rate and then buying 120 more points as an add-on at the same $87 per point price and then also get 100 one time use points as the add-on incentive bonus. I was told when I called that I couldn't do this. They said that SSR is still in construction and my deed wouldn't actually be recorded until August (after the construction is finished and a certificate of occupancy is obtained) and I couldn't do the add-on until after my deed is recorded. At that time they said it would be past the July rate increase so my add-on would be more per point than the present $87 discount rate. I have seen others on the boards who have said they have done this deal successfully as recently as April 5th. Have I been given bogus information? Can anyone confirm one way or the other? Thanks for your time.

I'm interested in the answer to this also. I was going to buy 200 points but then someone here suggested that I do just what you said to do. I need to know because I am on the verge of buying. I am going down in May and will be doing the deal then.

I think some people here posted that you could try, but that you could not get the add-on's until you were "in the system", and by then, the bonus for the add-on may have ended already.

The bonus points are awarded to your closed Master contract. Your contract most likely will not close before the incentive expires.

I did the add-on, but I've been a member since 2003. The bonus points agreement clearly stated the points would be assigned to the closed contract so I don't think you were given bogus info.

What UY did you purchase?

Oh, my LIFERBABE you didnt do an add on again, did you :faint: your DH must be a saint

Ok, one more question (actually, I will probably have LOTS more questions, but this will be the last one for tonight): When you buy add on points, do you buy them directly from Disney, from a resale or either??

We did the tour in March and decided to buy, when I got home and read about the incentive I called my guide and asked to change to 150 points and then do the 120 add-on incentive. He seemed a little confused but didn't say that it couldn't be done. After not receiving anything for two weeks I called him. He said it must have gotten tied up in the contract dept and that he would take care of it. I never heard back from him nor did I receive anything inthe mail. A couple of weeks later I received a follow up call from another person asking me if I had any questions (I assume this was b/c I never sent back the original signed contract). I told her the story. She was surprised that I had not received my new contract, etc. and promised to follow-up for me. She also said that she or my guide would call me back. Neither has happened. In total it has been almost two months since we agreed to buy. I have decided that DVC (or my guide) don't really care about my purchase. I also gather this to mean you cannot buy the min. points (150) and do the add-on incentive at the same time.

You can buy from either but you would only qualify for the 100 pnts. if you bought through Disney.

Wow, that's horrible. If you have to call back (and still want to) ask for Celeste she has always been excellent.

We have a contract at BWV, and are planning to buy 250 points at SSR. Our beloved guide said we can get the 100 point bonus added to our BWV account.

So, if you already have an existing contract at any other property, apparently there's no problem.

We were told that we could do this with our SSR purchase. We sent the contract on our original (150 point) purchase back to Disney on April 16. We rec'd approval on our financing last week. My guide knows we want to do a 120 point add-on to take advantage of the 100 bonus points & hopefully use them for part of our June vacation. He said we can start the add-on as soon as we are "in the system". I did get a little more clarification on that this week - he said that we can start the add-on as soon as we are part the recision date on our contract + 3 days. He said he would give me a call on May 5th to start that process. Hope this is correct - I know getting & using the add-on points for our June trip are dependent on 1) the incentive not ending before then, and 2) availability at a DVC property other than SSR. Hope this is right!

Yes this is correct. You are already an existing member and your BWV master contract has already closed. This is how this incentive was structured.

For your situation, If you split the 250 SSR points into 2 add-ons, you would qualify for an additional 100 bonus points awarded to your Master contract which I assume is BWV.

New purchasers are running into problems because their contracts may not close before the incentive expires. It's a risk to buy the minimum now and hope that add-on incentives will still be great later after official closing. If the price increases and the incentive decreases they could actually end up paying more than if they had just completed the purchase now.

SSR is selling pre-construction so that really pushes the closing dates back.

That or he doesn't know yet! :rotfl:

Really, I thought or maybe assumed the 100 pnt bonus would be for SSR.

The bonus points are awarded to your original closed master contract. In my case I received 100 BCV points. That's what made this deal even sweeter!
They are manually added to your contract and it is a one-time allotment of points.

I did that with a $125 TV once, not sure how a DVC add-on would go over. Hmmmm, she can't kill me, can't divorce me, oh wait, she can remind me everyday about what I did. Better wait. :)

This Tuesday I purchased (paid via credit card) 150 pts at SSR thru Disney. I asked about the 100 point incentive (since my intention was to also purchase a separate 120 point SSR contract at the same time). My guide did some checking and told me that to qualify for the add'l incentive, my first contract had to be in RTC status (or is it RCT?? I forget what this stands for- someone help me here!) and that if I turned my papers around quickly that would happen in a few weeks. She said I would qualify for the $87 price and the extra 100 points for my add-on (assuming the incentives were still in effect at that point). She didn't say the contract had to be closed (unless the acronym above actually means "closed").

Anyway, I'm holding off a bit before purchasing the add'l 120 points to see if I can get the extra 100. The window of opportunity will be narrow since I heard the price per point will be going up in the first week of June. If I end up not qualifying for any incentives then I'll think about the resale market because $98/pt seems rather steep.

Does RTC mean Ready to Close? :confused3

I am also hoping to do the add on having recently purchased a BCV resale through Disney. They have all of our money and paperwork back, and we are in the system ...... but our estimated closing date is June 5, which by the way is the exact date of the price increase to $98. So I'm hoping if we have to have a closed contract, this one goes through just a little earlier. I called our guide on Friday to do this and her voice mail said she was out until Monday
So I'll talk to her on Monday and let you guys know what I find out. :mickeybar

I'm definitely interested in knowing what you find out.

I don't see why you can't do this. I made my first DVC purchase (directly from Disney) at the end of Feb. My UY is Aug and so the deed won't be recorded until the bldg is complete (est Sept). I didn't buy another 120 SSR points, but I did buy 60 VWL points a couple weeks ago. My VWL contract is an addition to my SSR contract. In other words if I can do an add on at VWL why cant you do a SSR addon?

Technically, an add-on is done only thru Disney since you are making an additional purchase to an existing master contract (even if it's at a different resort). The add-on will have the same contract number with a different suffix - ie. XXXXXX.001, .002, .003 . Add-ons can be in any number of points with a 25 point minimum (50 if you want Disney financing).

Any resale purchase (regardless of the number of points) will be a separate contract and thus won't really be an add-on. In addition, you can't choose the number of points- that will be determined by the resale contract itself.

In some cases, if the resale contract has the same Use Year as your original contract and DVC is made aware of the issue in advance, you may be able to have DVC assign the resale as a "child" of the earlier contract with the same contract number - with the suffix extension changed.

In the case of the OP question, if you are already past the rescision date for your purchase (where you will be unable to back out of the purchase without penalty), DVC should be able to allow an add-on purchase to take advantage of the 100 free point incentive. I'd call your guide to check again and ask them to verify with a supervisor (suggest that you know of others who have been able to do exactly that!).

Enjoy!
