I really want to get my next trip booked for Feb. '09 Disney Travel told me I had to check back in August for pricing. They said they don't book any of their DLR hotels until then......

This is so strange to me. You can book WDW or a cruise way out, but not DLR. Does anyone know why????

I really wanted to get a jump on trip planning and the cost now.......:confused3

I was in the same boat you are in a year ago! I was wanting to book a room at the DLH for January and couldn't. It is very frustrating. DVC members also cannot book reservations at any of the DLR hotels using points for the upcoming year before August in spite of the fact we have an 11 month booking window for DLR hotels. As I recall, once they release the 2009 rates, ALL of 2009 will be available to book. I think its a safe bet that rates won't go up too much, given the current economy.

Just keep an eye on things so you can get a good rate when they do come out. My experience has been the rates keep getting higher as they sell more rooms. At WDW you have separate seasons where you know pretty specifically what maximum rates you'll be paying. Rack rate is generally the highest you'll pay. At DL, there doesn't seem to be a rack rate, they seem to start out at one thing and as they sell more rooms (i.e. the demand goes up) they start hiking up the rates. They don't have codes or much in the way of discounts. Even AP rates at the DLR hotels are hard to come by and hard to figure out.

I might add that I have run into this for several years and nobody has been able to give me a concrete reason why! When we bought DVC and started using points for DL I thought that would help me to preplan a bit more but no dice. I complained to DVC and got the "that's the way they do it and they always have". Not much of an answer.

It stinks! I am also trying to book for Feb/March '09! It't not just Disney either! A lot of the hotels in the area have no rates or info for '09. I called Park Place Inn and the lady told me to call back in late August!

THis is something they should try and change.........

Thanks for the helping me feel like I'm not the only one who's frustrated!

I wish they would, but it's always been that way with them! Their new rates, packages, etc... always come out late August or early September. It really is strange since like you said WDW and cruises can be booked so far in advance!

You are not alone!!!

Same boat 2 years in a row! Couldn't figure out costs or book for our May 08 trip until late August 07, and now we are adding a few days at DLR before our ABD Backstage Magic trip in January and can't do anything until August again!..less than 5 months before the trip..that's kinda close for a planner like me.

Thank you so much for all of your input.....I need to put a ticker on my siggie for when I can actually BOOK my trip!!! LOL!!!

Most hotels here in Las Vegas set rates 11 months out.

When you set your rates based on occupancy, you look at dates with convention groups and set your rates based on the rates of the groups in-house; then you look at your historical rates for those dates in past years and use that as a guideline for other dates. So in July, when you have your final numbers for June, you load your rates for the following June.

It also prevents a hotel from getting scammed on days they are sold out; i.e., if a hotel is sold out certain dates; and someone makes a reservation for the same dates for the following year, they make a scene at the front desk when they try to check in and claim the reservation agent must have made the mistake.

Everything at DLR kind of slows down between July and September: The release of entertainment schedules, the release of hotel rates, 2009 ticket prices, etc. The reason I have heard this happens is because Disney's fiscal year ends September 30, and they spend the month of August hashing out their price increases.
