Why Can't DCL Provide Chairs...

to sit in, in the line for boarding? DH and I took a 4-night Carnival Fantasy cruise just days before our second Magic cruise in January, and once you check-in at the desk they direct you to rows of chairs set up for boarding. You sit down in the order you checked in. Then you stand up when boarding starts. A very nice way to do it. At Disney if you want to be one of the first to board you have to stand in line for an hour or more. Not much fun and hard on the feet. I'm just wondering why they can't set up rows of chairs like Carnival does???

DCL does provide a lot of seating but you are right in the fact that if you want to hold your place in line you must stay in line.

I really can't see how DCL could put rows of chairs in the terminal for you to sit in the order that you are in line....where would they go? Plus, I think it would ruin the whole atmosphere of the beautiful terminal.

DCL does not insist that we stand in line the whole time...I think we as anxious passengers feel the need to stand in line so we can be among the first to board. I see it as a problem with the human condition not a problem for Disney.

I count myself right in there with the ones who want to be first on line. What we do is take turns...some of our party sits for awhile and then we switch. We always let the people behind us know we will be doing this so as not to have them think we are sneaking people onto the line. We never had a problem and the time always seems to fly talking to everyone on the line.

But Disney conditions us to stand in line and wait: to board the bus, to get through security, into the parks, into the rides, into meals, and on and on. This is NOT a gripe, its the most efficeint way to move people in and through things (attractions, dinning rooms etc).

Disney does condition us. Look at the parades in the MK. People start sitting on the curb 1 1/2 to 2 hours before the parade starts. You can walk up to the parade route and usually be able to see the parade when it gets to where you are. And you don't have to crowd in front of anyone.

We went to see Fantasmic. Got in line about an hour before the show started and almost didn't make it into the theater.

Had Fastpasses to Indy Stunt show, got in line about 10 minutes before the fastpass people we to be let in, and once again almost didn't get into the theater.

Heck, we're in line now, It seems like many of us have booked cruises over a year out!!

I'm going to be one of those in the roped off queue area on our next cruise. Like MMouse said - it's just part of the human condition.

I think it is part of the experience. Our group was first for both of our October cruises that we took. Not only first in the que but also first when the gate opened by security in the morning. Two weeks in a row. At least now we have a system. My wife just had to be first. We were!!! It was pretty cool. We jut took turns standing there.

DCL does provide other things that other lines don't, namely the character photo ops in the terminal.

I agree that a line adds to the excitement. Disney is about telling stories..

and there is nothing like starting a story then a good build-up of anticipation--I think the big line adds that feel to it. I think if I was sitting in a chair, and then it was time for my "row" to board, it just wouldn't feel the same....

I also think the the huge open terminal, with the high ceiling and marble look adds to the the feeling, To me, huge rows of chairs would make it look like a bus terminal.

I think it makes it easier on families to make it more open, so people can come and go.. let the kids run around, see the model and characters...if there were chairs it would be harder for kids and their family to do that.. stepping over people in chairs..

I usually walk around myself.. Take pictures on the landing, get a coffee, look at the model and take pics with the character, Usually get in line about 20 mins or so to boarding and still get on the ship by 12:30ish. DCL has the best check-in/embarking and disembarking of any line I have been on--so I never feel pressured to have to wait in the line for hours, because it always moves so fast anyway. And I think it's great how they have the buffet on two levels, so don't have to wait in a long buffet line once you get one.

DCL is just the best. It's like they say, once you go DCL you never go back!

When I went on the cruise, my husband and I were directed to an area near the boarding area to wait since I use a wheelchair. The group of us in this area were boarded first prior to the other guests. Made it easy for them to get us in and through the buffet lines before others crowded in.

Marilee if there was a separate line for Castaway Club members it would be longer than the line for first time cruisers!

That is not a returning-cruiser perk. Priority boarding is for those who are traveling concierge level (categories 1 through 3). They are grouped with the physically-challenged cruisers...

The Castaway Club line is available for check-in. However, at times it is longer than the regular check-in lines. Your best bet is to get into the shortest line and hope someone ahead of you hasn't neglected to fill out their forms in advance...
