Why buy the non-expiration feature?

Why do people buy the non-expiration feature on their tickets?

I know so they don't expire, but it is more cost effective?
Forgive me if my question seems dumb, but I've always wondered this and I don't know what the advantages are.

the actual per day rate gets to be only a few dollars more up ,

at around 10 or so the non expiration rate goes up to about a hundred i think... but before that, you can get a second trip worth's of days passes for only a few $$ aday

Generally speaking every day you put on the ticket makes all the days on the ticket less espensive... so if you plan to go back the next month or year you could buy a ticket that would cover both trips and therefore save money... not only is every day less but there is just one charge for Park Hopping & no expiration.

This is great not only for those really organized people who have their whole lives scheduled! It's also for us Dis fanatics who know we're going back soon, even if we don't know exactly when that will be!

One reason I know from the experience of some friends of ours: let's say someone in your party gets sick--the flu, vomiting, diarrhea--or something else where the person (and possibly mom and/or dad) is stuck in the room for a day or two or three.

If you have passes that expire, you're out of luck. If you have passes that don't expire you can come back again and use them the next time.

The difference between 7 days and 10 days is only $6 so why save days that adds $100 to my ticket price?

I do see the getting sick part.

This isn't true is it? I went to the Disney site and they are both add ons? We do park hopping and the water parks/Quest.

If you're going to be at WDW for a week and go to a park every day, then expiring hoppers are a better deal. If you go to WDW for just a few days at a time, but know you'll be going back, a non-expiring 10-day hopper makes sense.

The cost to add non-expiration to a 10-day MYW ticket is $135 plus tax!

I guess that's why I don't understand it. DD and I need 10 days while DS and DH need 7-8 days, but I buy the 9-10 just in case they want to visit the parks on their Universal day return to WDW. So, since I buy that length of ticket, it just doesn't seem like a good deal.

That's what I needed to read! We go for 10 days and do the parks every day. Non-expiration for a 10 day (what I buy) is insane.

if you are using 7 days on a 10 day ticket, its really not worth it to add the no expiration, too expensive!!! Maybe 5 days would be the most days I would do the park and still consider getting 10 day non-expiration.

I can see now that adding it to lower day tickets isn't as much as the 10 day. I suppose with the 10 day though and our water park options it's saving more "stuff" for later.

We will use 15 days over three trips over at least 3 years.

year 1 5 days
year 2 5 days
year 3 5 days

We just enjoy the parks more if intersperse non park days to rest up.

When we went in Jan the deal was that Disney added hopping and plusses for free. There was no way we were going to go to the waterparks in Jan and wouldn't have used any of the other plus perks so we decided to buy 10 day no expiration. We now have 6 days of hopping and 6 plusses to use on our next trips. It was worth the extra money then for the money we will save in the future.

I wish we could do that. When it costs so much for airfare we go for longer periods and with my kids schedules who knows when we'll get back. This year will probably be our last trip for a while.

And, I would never have that much self control to not go to a park. The only time I sit still is when I'm on this board. Relax isn't a word that fits in my lifestyle

Look at it this way.
10 day park hopper, non expiry $410
5 day park hopper, expires $254
If you went on 2- 5 day trips the price would be $509 if you bought the tickets that expire.
If you went on 2 - 5 day trips the price would be $410 if you bought the non expiry tickets.
A savings of almost $100.

We plan on making our tickets on the may trip, non expiry. That we we can have tickets for the next trip. Cause, I know there will be another trip.

I've had an annual pass for the past few years, but when it expires this November, I'm not going to renew it. Knowing that, I bought a 10-day non-expiring premium pass from Ticketmania before the end of 2005 for $353. I'm really glad I did, because the same ticket (though with 1 more "plus" day in 2006) jumped to $422 on Jan. 1st! I will use a few days of that ticket in April 2007 and a few more in Nov. 2007, so it was worth getting a non-expiring ticket.

On the other hand, my teenage son accompanied me to WDW last month for his spring break. Our maximum number of days for visiting a theme park was 8, so I bought him an 8-day expiring hopper for only $1 more than a 7-day hopper. He used all but one day, so I got my money's worth. There was no way I was going to spend $117.15 to add non-expiration for the one leftover day.
