I just read a post about Dreams Unlimited and it got me wondering........What is the benefit of booking a trip this way rather than just going on disneyworld.com and booking it myself??? (Please don't laugh if this is a silly question!! )

Would I save by doing it by using DU or some other agency???

I use dreams unlimited because they book everything for me. They take care of my dining reservations, book any extra hard ticket events that I want to go to, and will find out the answers to any questions that I have. I have used them for all of my trips and can't imagine not using them on all of my future trips because they make it so effortless for me.

I know for our dec/jan trip, we are getting married in Disney and my DU agent has been a God Send in taking care of thing for me, finding out information, etc.. it has taken a ton of stress off of me.

The other advantage would be that they can watch for discount codes and apply them to your reservation so you don't have to keep calling disney and sitting on hold.

AAA TA's can apply the AAA discount to a package- that would be an advantage since you can't book that directly through Disney.

This is our first time using a TA and I'm thrilled so far. Its so much easier sending a quick email requesting changes (we've done two), requesting ADR's (which we pick one or two at a time), and our TA sends us updates about the parks and info on things we may be interested in doing. She's also planning an itinerary based on info I given her about what we what to do, parks we want to see, etc. I'm using Dreams Unlimited, but I know there are several others and you can get a whole range of opinions on who to go thru.

For travel in general, I prefer to use a travel agent instead of doing it myself. Most of the time, I do all the Internet research and then hand the TA all of my desired info (flight numbers, hotel names, etc.) on a silver platter. WHY? Well, a few reasons, the main one being that I like having an ally and helper if anything goes wrong.

I should back up and say that you have to have an OUTSTANDING TA or its just not worth the hassle. My most aggravating experience was using my mother-in-law's TA when we did a joint Disney trip. This was 2005 and I was last at WDW in 1993 (and that was for business, I didn't even do much "Disney" on that trip), but even so I taught the TA a lot about WDW. She was a do-do when it came to Disney, and I had to teach her things and set her straight. For example, our trip started on the 4th day of Disney's Magical Express. The TA had never heard of it and had the 6 of us booked on a Mears shuttle for more than $100 each way. I had to explain it to her, and re-explain it to her ... she told me a few times that she thought I was making it up -- she didn't even bother looking into it at first. She also somehow had us PAYING for a fridge at CBR, a moderate resort, where fridges are free and standard. And I had to teach her what "preferred location" meant at CBR - she thought it meant water view. So you get the idea that she was a complete horror show.

Back to the idea of TA as ally when things go wrong. A week in Cancun at a world-class resort, built only one year earlier for the sole purpose of housing the Miss Universe pagaent. Stunning but very expensive. We decided to buy a dining plan that consisted of 4 dinners and one breakfast. WHen we checked in, we got our dining vouchers, for 4 breakfasts and one dinner. We aren't big breakfast eaters and while the dining plan was a good deal, it was a good deal because it was 4 gourmet dinners, not 4 plates of huevos rancheros. Anyway, the front desk argued with us, and said our travel agent-issued vouchers were meaningless. I'm a very persuasive person and I know how to deal with people and read people (I'm a therapist), but I was getting nowhere, and the language barrier didn't help matters any. It was a real bummer start to our vacation. So I called our TA's office for help -- this was a large chain in the Northeast, Liberty Travel. Our TA had all of the original paperwork from the hotel itself in his files. He not only faxed them their invoice, but he also got a Spanish-speaking colleague to make the call to our Cancun resort. About 20 minutes later, the general manager himself delivered our vouchers and an apology to our room.

I couldn't have done that myself. My great TA succeeded where I failed.

But like I said, this requires an OUTSTANDING travel agent. He was organized, he was smart, he was creative, and HE CARED. He took pride in our enjoying ourselves, and naturally that won him a lot of repeat business, so it was a win-win situation.

Just to add on, what ever one else is saying. We love our TA mainly because when free dining was announced, she booked us Pop, and let us know before we even got up. Same thing with the Candlelight Processional on the date and time we went, and at the restaurant we wanted. It just really an added conveince, we do all our own research, and just let her know what we want.

It is cheaper to book a package through AAA than directly through Disney...that is why we use AAA.

I agree with you! Booking through disneyworld.com literally took a minute. I was like, this is it? And then you get your confirmation e-mail. It was easy, I will do it again in a heart beat.

The only thing I don't like about going through AAA is that if you want to change or even ask a bloody question about your own ressie you can't. It all has to be done by AAA. Found this out the hard way this year when I had problems & wanted to try to fix them on my own because frankly, I didn't trust TA to do it. Just booked a quick 5 day trip through Disney & it was a breeze. I've already had to change my tickets & my code for hotel & it took minutes. I usually do the leg work online at different sites & call up to book. What can I say, I like to talk to a real person when doing this. I know AAA can give you discounts, but if you watch these boards & other sites, you usually find out pretty quick when a deal is coming your way. If I had someone who would be on the lookout for stuff for me like PPs, I might choose to go that route.
