As far as I can see, the timers are working.

We don't know why the icons look wierd right now.

As far as your auto-login goes, you may want to see if it was just a one time thing before we go into troubleshooting a problem for you.

It isn't a one time thing . Has been everytime since the other night when you guys took down the system for a while. And on all the timers it says what it is suppost to say when they run out. They aren't counting down they are all the way out of time. All of them.
Thanks
Sharon

Check your PC's time and date. They are working for me.

I'll look at your settings for the login thing.

Your setiings are correct. It's possible that one of your cookies is bad.

Read this thread and clear your cookies and see if it works after that (you will have to log in the first time for sure).

I can't access the link you gave me. it is telling me i do not have permission to access that page.
I went to look for the cookies myself . only found one that said Disboards and deleted it.
I am still not seeing the count down timers counting down and the board still doesn't know it is me without signing in repeatedly. Any more suggestions?
thank
sharon

I'm sorry about that link. I'll fix it shortly.

Should be ok now. Somehow it got recycled and I didn't notice. My fault!

JC

That would be my fault. I cleaned up that thread so it would be easier to follow, and I didn't realize that we had both added it to the FAQ thread. I changed the link on the one I put in the FAQ, but didn't realize you had added it too. :o

STill isn't working right. doesn't know who i am.
how could the timer thing be my computer?
Just curious. How could i read everyone elses too. No ones timers show time counting down to me . It shows what they want it to say when time has ran out.
I did everything the thread said to do , any other suggestions?

I checked several counters from my pc, including my own and the one in DNSDisney's signature and they all worked fine at 2:30pm est on 5/22. I couldn't find one that shows the 'expired' message.

I manually changed the date on my pc from May 2002 to be May 2005 and the counters that I previously checked now showed the expired message. When I reset my computer's date back to 2002 again and refreshed the screen, the counters went back to normal again.

I would agree with Mr J. Cricket and suggest that you check the date and time on your pc. It can be reset by a variety of reasons accidentally, including a system problem that could end up with the pc being restarted ungracefully.

The icon problem seemed to appear last night somewhere between midnight to 2 am est. and affects many, if not all of us. My icons appear that way too.

The login problem you are experiencing can be caused by a cookie on your system being corrupted, somehow. It doesn't even have to be a cookie that looks like it's from the disboards, it can be totally unrelated to the boards. The link that Mr J Cricket provided about deleting all of your cookies has a good chance of fixing your problem, it has helped many others through it.

Good luck, hope your problems are solved soon.

Thanks guys. I figured it out about the clock . it was set to 2020... somehow??? lol
everything is back to normal

Is your login problem resolved also, or do you still have to login every time?

If you are still having problems with the Disboards recognizing you and having to login every time you want to use the boards -

First, I'm assuming that you are the only one that uses the Disboards from that computer. In other words, the screen name or Dis ID that you are using is the only one that uses the Disboards. Since Mr J. Cricket said he checked your login settings and that they're Ok, I'm assuming you are the only user on that PC.

If your Internet Settings are set so that they do not allow Cookies, it would result in the same symptoms you described.

My pc is working correctly and I do not have to login every time I access the boards. My Dis ID is the only one that is used from this pc.

I changed the settings in my Internet Explorer to not allow the use of cookies and then I closed out of Internet Explorer completely. Then I tried to open Internet Explorer again and to access the Disboards. This duplicated the problem you described, it did not recognize me and I had to login again. I did a quick browse of this board and then I closed out Internet Explorer. I reopened it and tried to access the boards and had to login again.

Then I changed the Internet Explorer settings back to the way that I had it set before, I allowed Cookies to be stored on my computer and I allowed the per session cookies also. Then I closed out of Internet Explorer, waited 10 seconds, opened it again, and accessed the boards. I logged in again, did a quick browse, and closed out.

From that point on, I did not have to login again when I accessed the boards, it remembered my login for me.

I suggest you check your IE Settings and verify that it is set to allow cookies to be stored. Again, this setting could be changed inadvertently as well as from a result of a security program changing it, or someone could have changed it thinking they were increasing the security level (which is true) but decreasing the convenience level.

I use Internet Explorer 5.5 and the settings are located on the IE Menu Bar at:
Tools / Internet Options / and then click on the Security Tab.
Then choose the 'Internet' icon on the left side.
Then click on 'Custom Level'.
Then scroll down until you find the section for 'Cookies'.
Then click to ENABLE the Cookies to be stored on your computer and also to Enable the 'per session' cookies to be used.

Then click on 'OK', then click to Confirm that you want to make changes, then click on OK to close out of the Options Dialog.

Then close out of Internet Explorer, wait 10 seconds, then open it again.

If that was the problem, after the next login, you shouldn't have to do it again and it will recognize you.

hope that helps

no problems logging in either. I recall having the same problem with Family tree site once. And they said with the date reading 2020 or whatever that the cookie was expired because of the date. So when the date is set correct the cookie is set to reconize me again.
Thanks for all you guys help. You are a great bunch! :)
