Why aren't 10 and 11 night sailings available during summer?

I'm sure other cruisers wonder the same thing.

I just received the DCL 'postcard' in the mail today advertising the Southern Caribbean, and it's bummed me out all over again as it's a reminder we won't be able to do it because of school. :sad1:

I don't think cost is an issue either, as DCL would be able to sell it out as fast as they did the repo cruises.

And it's not just DCL either. RCCL also occassionally has 10-14 day sailings. We get so excited reading which ports and stops and then are startled with the dates. (April, October, etc.)

Some experienced cruisers here are bound to know?

I honestly think they do these to fill the ships up during the slow seasons. They don't have that problem during summer as that is when most families take their vacation.

My almost "20" year old son - who wants to try another cruise line (we have been on three DCL) - saw the postcard also and says "ma, why can't we do this one next year - this sounds nice". I said - "we can't go, all of you are in school - it's in September". He tells me he will cruise if there is a new itinerary - so we are now waiting and hoping for something new for summer 07 or I doubt he will be joining us.

They strategize (sp?) well - but we want to go toooo :guilty:

I think Disney's motivation was to fill the ship at a premium rate during a normally slow period and also have less interuption in case of hurricane. As far as other cruiselines. A lot of time, their "special" sailings are in April and October because that is when they reposition their ships -- typically from the Caribbean to Alaska and Europe.
