Why are you voting for Obama?

Shortly after I started receiving sarcastic remarks, I said that I was not going to bother posting anymore because only a handful of you are actually taking my question seriously. I am not sure why you are criticizing me. I am not sure why people are placing judgements on me. I am also not sure why people assume what my motives are. For all you know, I am doing research for a college paper or I plan on showing this thread to my teenagers to see how quick people are to judge and to always be careful on the internet. You have no idea.

I never said I didn't know who I was going to vote for and so I needed your help to decide. How do you know I am not voting for Obama? Maybe I am tired of all the slander on someone who I feel strongly about and I wish there was a larger contingent who could speak to the issues? I never said you are wrong for having your opinion. The title of the thread asks "Why are you voting for Obama?" I am aware that politics is a touchy subject and is full of opinion and I am asking what your honest to goodness opinion is.

With all that said, I am not here to slander, stir the pot, turn people against each other, or gather information for me to make my own decisions. If you don't want to share your reasons for voting for a candidate, and it is fine if you don't because it IS a personal thing, then don't post. Everyone is so quick to assume.

This is my honest to goodness last post on this thread and I would ask you to not slander me because I choose to not respond anymore and get mixed up in the back and forth some of you have created. Thank you to everyone who has answered with good intentions.

You are not sure why you are being judged, but you judged those uneducated Obama supporters...

If you would have just asked the question without "unintentionally" painting Obama supporters as uneducated and implying that the are just voting for him cuz "its the thing to do"... You might have been taken more seriously, just maybe.

I saw his picture on a slice of toast. It spoke to me. It said, "Vote for Change." And then I ate it and washed it down with a glass of Kool Aid.

HAHAHA. I rarely laugh out loud while reading, but I just did now.

His stance is much closer to mine than McCain's on all the issues. He's clearly intelligent, which I think the country screams out for after 8 years of W. I like his proposals for developing alternative energy, and his recognition that we really need to change our whole energy paradigm.

I find McCain's stance on a few issues, like health care and Iraq, downright terrifying. It disturbs me a great deal the way he blows off serious issues like Social Security. "Oh, that's easy to fix." Yeah, right. I would never vote for an anti-choice candidate.

I would think one would be more successful at fixing Social Security as a senator instead of a president. Apparently he will walk in as a president with a democratic controlled congress and simply fix SS. Yet, as a senator with a republican congress he hasn't even come close to solving that ongoing problem.

And don't forget, he knows how to track down OBL and it is easy. He just needs to become president first before he shares his vast knowledge with our military.

Three reasons:

First, of the two major party candidates his views and positions more closely match mine on the issues I consider most important this time around.

Second, I think we need a significant change of direction from the politics of the past eight years, and obviously McCain is not going to offer that.

And finally, I'm voting for Obama because I was a McCain supporter in the 2000 primaries, and can hardly recognize the McCain of back then in the man running today. Anyone who is willing to change so much of what he stands for in order to win is not to be trusted IMO.

Thanks. You gave me another reason

I'm voting for Obama because his views come much closer to mine than McCain's. I think that that's an adequate reason.

Exactly.

Neither candidate was my first choice. I finally came to the decision to vote for Obama because his views more closely resemble my own. I also think that this country needs a major change. McCain and his views were not enough of a change, in my opinion. At the start of the economic crisis and stock market down-fall, I believe that McCain did not do a good job in addressing it. When he said that the fundamentals of our economy are strong, he pretty much lost my vote. In addition, McCain is not the candidate that he was several years ago.

I am impressed at how Obama has showed poise during the crisis, while McCain has come across as irratic. Those are just some of my reasons.

I will vote for Obama (and am campaiging for him now) for many reasons. Here are a few of the biggest (my personal reasons as you asked for--not up for debate at this point):

Women's Rights: I am pro choice (NOT pro abortion) as my DD comes up on her teens years I feel more and more strongly that her right to choose what to do with her body and her life must be protected. I hope she is never in a situation where she needs that right, but she (and all women) should have it.

Our Standing in the Wolrd: I feel we, as a country, need to show the world we can be trusted and are truly willing to change our ways and we need to go in a very different direction to do that. Obama does represent a greater change in foriegn policy and, I believe, is more trusted by otehrs in the world than MaCain.

The Iraq War: I disagreed with this war all along and more so now than ever. I belive Obama will get us out of there sooner.

Gay Rights: Neither candidate is where I want them to be on this issue. That said, Obama will not do anything (that I have seen) to restrict rights, I believe McCain/Palin will. I feel the way we treat LGBT people in our laws is an abomination and I do not want anyone in office who will make things worse.

The Envoirnment: I feel Obama will protect our earth and htat we must do so for our own sakes and that of future generations.

Health Care: I like Obama's plans. I do think we should all have care. I wish Hilary had been able to make it happen many moons ago, and if it finally does happen I will be forever grateful to her for getting the ball rolling.

The Economy: I like Obama's plans better on this front also.

Intelligence/education: I DO feel we need someone really smart to be a great president and I think Obabma fits that bill much better than McCain (and the VPs are polar opposites on this front).

These are my big issues.

My husband and I have gone to several Obama rallys and have asked people why they are voting for Obama. We can not get any real good answer--we hear things like "He speaks well" and "He isn't old" and other things that really don't seem to constitute solid, grounded reasons why someone should be our presieent.

So, without any negative comments to anyone or any party, can you please give some good, grounded and educationaly based reasons as to why Obama would be a good choice for our next President?
There you go...the reasons why Obama supporters are voting for him. :sad2:

Have you READ this thread? Or did ya just skip over the posts, including mine, where we outlined our reasons.

:) No, I haven't been to ones where he speaks, but I have been to local college campuses and political gatherings where supports are there to pep rally people up. The people I spoke to were mostly college aged and were excited about change, but they couldn't specify what they wanted changed or how Obama was going to accomplish it.

Please, I didn't ask for random comments like this. I am trying to find some educated people who can give some good founded reasons.

Oh, sorry, didn't mean to imply you could make the decision yourself.

Good luck. :flower3:

Because I want to!!!

1. Healthcare. My daughter has a costly pre-existing condition and with McCain's plan, she would be unable to receive her very expensive and necessary medication ($50,000 per year). :goodvibes

2. Pro-choice. Not pro-abortion. :teacher:

3. Tax breaks for more Americans not just the wealthy ones. :thumbsup2

4. The way he has run his campaign. They say a president will run the country in a similar fashion to the way their campaign was run. Obama has been honest and classy and not like the other two. :scared: In other words, not scary, full of hate, and impulsive.

This is why I voted for him.:goodvibes

I am voting for him because he favors ending the war in Iraq and because he supports abortion rights. His position on assault weapons bans, voting record on expanding Veterans' Affairs funding, and his work in increasing Pell Grant limits are also factors.
