Why are you always going to Disney friends

People think we're nuts too! Isn't amazing how many people JUST DON'T GET IT???
My DH finally understands--we love being Disney crazies!

(luckily I have my family that's crazy for the place--we grew up going to Disney!)

when I tell people I would go every year if I had the money they look at me like I am nuts. They dont get it and I dont have the energy to try to explain it to some.I get razzed constantly by friends who say " you are 34 yrs old and work on machinery all day. How can you love disney the way you do" I just do I guess. And I thank my parents for taking us when we were kids b/c my whole family, brother, sister and all there kids are just as nutty about it as I am. Thank God I found a wife who is a disney nut too. We have a 4 year old nut and hope to have more little nuts when we come back from our trip in may.

Let me join in too. I have very few people in my life who are Disney
addicted. I have a sister who absolutley hates it, I didn't even discuss
my last trip in dec. to her or show her pics which is really sad that I have to feel like I can't share something I love to do so much. Fortunatley I have another sister who lives out of state and we do Disney together. Plus my older DD and Son inlaw and grandchildren have them same addiction.

I am another Disney lover who gets so tired of people saying, "Don't you want to see anything else?". I tell them "NO". Why can other people go to the same place every year and nobody questions their choice? I tell them it is our money and we can spend it the way we wish!!!!

My family (Me, DH, DS, DS, DS) went to Disney World for the first time in December 2000. My first time at age 34 and my husband at 37. We didn't have any idea what to expect and went for 7 days. Well we rushed everything (to not miss anything) and then did everything a second time "because we were there and had to". We came home SO EXHAUSTED we swore we were never going back. Within three months we had our 3 days land/4 days sea adventure planned! We then went two years later on a 7 day cruise and then back the next year and the next.............well, can you imagine what people say????? We bought into the DVC and we pay all year for it, so why wouldn't we use it? We love it!!

Now we just tell people that we are going to "Florida".

No one in my family understands it either. I love going because, for a while, you get to be the child within you and not worry about what's going on anywhere but right there at WDW.

Exactly! As soon as I enter MK I'm 9 years old! Who wouldn't want to feel like that?

Event though I'm 39 y/o, with a wonderful DW and DD, I'm not mature enough!

But when someone I know wants to go, guess who they come to for info...ME.

I was resigned to the fact that maybe I was alone in my obsession, until I found the DIS. Maybe we should get a clinical name for it... Disneyosis or something like that.

Hope it's incurable!

I am also lucky enough to have 1 friend who loves going to Disney as much as I do!! She has been going every year as long as I can recall! Her boys are now grown and I still have 2 little ones, being as DH can not get off in the fall we are now planning a trip in Oct. so my lil ones can go MNSSHP!!!
She is way excited to be able to start over again seeing Disney through yet another generation of kids!!!
I also just tell other people we are going to Florida. They tire of me telling them how great Disney is!!:

I think people have a hard time understanding what a wide variety of things there are to see and do: thrill rides, just for fun rides, shows, parades, fireworks, food, looking around at all the detailed stuff.... Even for those who have gone before, if they didn't plan ahead and just wandered around in the heat missing many things, and standing in line, it was not a good experience for them.

It is also a working vacation. You are on your feet moving. Many people want to be sitting and relaxing. Of course you CAN do that at Disney, but most people want to be out at the parks, and do not take needed breaks.

This is how I convinced my DH to go again. We booked a house with a pool, and I promised not to march the family until they dropped. (I LOVE Disney and could totally be out and about ALL day.) This time we are taking breaks.

Bottom line people get weirded out by anyone who is passionate about anything (scrapbooking, model trains, church, running marathons....) whenever you can go on and on happily about anything, chances are someone will think you are a "bit over the top." It is really kind of sad that everyone does not have their "over the top" thing. We all should!

We took our DS last year because we thought it was just what you should do when your kids are little (the free dining didn't hurt ) We came home totally OBSESSED with going back. We used to go to the beach every year and no one ever said a thing but now that we are going back to Disney (in September), people think we are nuts.

It was the best time we ever had. I didn't really have to be Mommy, I just got to be as much of a kid as my son.

Both of our families have an aversion to crowds and loud places. They'll never get it and NEVER want to go. I think that is OK, I wouldn't want to have to try to keep everyone happy all week. The three of us will enjoy our special time together without "drama."

Most people I know are just as you all deal with. I am thankful though that with my need not to "hide" the "closet" WDW lovers come out to me and I find people to talk to about my love. This year we are going to be joined by some of DH family who just had that "feeling" we'd be going back again this year... We might not have but now that "his" family wants to go with us it was really easy to convince him to go as he love spending time with his cousin and her family... and our kids get along great so YAY!

To those who don't understand ... they can't understand until they try disney the way we all know how to do it and then they will know and love what we already see...

I've only been to Disney World once with my family about 5 yrs ago. So we are very much looking forward to going back next year. I wish we could go every year, but unfortunately our budget doesn't allow it.

I don't understand why people would say "You're going to Disney again?" I mean, look at all of the people that go to the beach/ocean every year after year. For them, it might be a tradition. Yet because someone chooses to go to Disney every year, that is strange? Why can't going to Disney be a tradition too?

Personally... and this is just my own personal choice, because I've done both the beach vacation and the Disney vacation.... I'd choose going to Disney in a heartbeat! The beach gets too boring, too fast. There is always something to go see or do at Disney. This is just my own personal opinion.

At Disney we put on our small bag, grabbed a bus and headed out for fun!

I have friends that won't take their kids (5 & 6) to Disney because they don't want to spend money on a trip their kids won't remember. Our son went at 4 and is still talking and talking and talking about it.

Oh well. Some people just never will get the magic.

That is sad that they feel that way, and I agree with you. Kids DO remember. In fact, when we went back in 2002, my youngest at the time, was only 22 months old... and she still talks about things that happened on our trip that she could only know by memory. It's amazing. So, IMO, a 5 & 6 yr old would definitely remember a Disney trip.

Jill, I think this is pretty profound, and I couldn't agree more. I think everyone should have something that they are passionate about, something that brings them bliss. Sometimes I wish that I could find the same bliss that I get at WDW gardening or running, it would be a lot easier on the pocketbook, prolly!

I also love to rubber stamp, and teach adult crafting classes, and get some of the same reaction from people, and it does get old...

Yep, our son is destined to be an only child so we decided to squeeze in as much Disney as possible while it is still magic to him. My friend's little boy was over yesterday and saw our pictures from last year and was amazed that my DS met the REAL Buzz Lightyear. It was adorable.

If I were rich I'd borrow her children and take them with us. No child should be deprived Disney. So what if we are spending his college fund to do it.

And I think Jill is right as well. People will feel uncomfortable about anything that another person is passionate about.

we live in Illinois. most of our friends go to a cabin in Wisconsin, EVERY year, 2 or 3 times. ok they love fishing. but we're nutz for going to The World once or twice a year? esp. since our boys are grown! (can't talk them and the wives into going with us!) we took the segway tour, rented water sprites, visited clubs, dined , spent tons of down time at disney resorts (most people would spend $ to stay at these resorts alone for a week, without the theme parks!)
ps. DH's completed trip report - If it's tues, this must be epcot - explains it well. we'r goin/ again in MAY!

Smidgy - We have family members that spend thousands on hunting and fishing equipment and trips. We love to take our son camping and fishing in the summer, but, come on! They spend all that money to go out in the freezing cold and kill some poor animal and we are crazy for going back to Disney?!

P.S. I loved your husbands trip reports! You guys sound like a lot of fun.

My DH doesn't get it at all, but he goes along with it and I think he's secretly getting into the whole Disney thing, I even got a photo of him and the girls with Mickey last week
My friends are generally more politically militant than I am, and it's impossible to reconcile a hard core anti-corporate belief system with a love of Disney. So I'm a closet Disney addict as far as my friends and fellow workers are concerned.
My sister belongs to the DVC, so fortunately there's someone in the world who I'm not all defensive with as far as my Disneydiction goes!

I love these boards so much! It is so hard to find others in my day to day life that understand, thats why I am so happy to find this place. Last month I was heading through my work to the break room with my WDW planning book in hand with my co-workers shaking their heads "There she goes again...." yeah so I read last years edition so what! I go to bed at night to the trip planning video (sorry but I like the happiest celebration one better than YOAMD) and it's true there is nothing like bringing your own children there even though I feel like I'm into it more than they are My friends all go on vacation to spring break places but I'm just content to spend the rest of my vacationing life at Disney resorts. I feel like I've finally found folks who get it and I'm not alone in my Disney obsessed world.
