Why are we as a community accepting of no tram service?

I doubt if you will be able to demand anything. But you can send your message to to Disney. Just be sure you use accurate information.

It's a mile roundtrip. Also, disappointed but not surprised at the number of people making excuses for one of the largest conglomerates on the planet. It's not a 'staffing issue'. If DIS wanted the trams running, they could hire people. It's that simple.

All over the world the service industry is having issues getting people hired. Due to the pandemic, people have seen there are other ways to make money. People do not want these jobs anymore, against the salaries the companies are offering.

I walk each morning and each afternoon about 1.5 mile to and from the station to go to work. I am not bothered by walking. So, I wouldnt complain about it.
I think Disney has more areas where I would want them to hire more peope. Like in restaurants, walking I do not mind, waiting a long time for a counter service meal, I do mind.
I want them to bring back shows and characters first. To make Disney feel like Disney again.
To me things like the trams are a bonus, but not the most important aspect of a Disney visit to me.

The walk from the structure to the entrance does not feel too bad.
The issue is the walk back from the parks to the structure. After a long day of walking, it makes the walk back to your car very tiring and the guests don't complain because they are already leaving.

From Disney's perspective they save a lot of money by not having them operate. I wouldn't be surprised if they expand Downtown Disney into that walkway area.

I am not returning to the parks until the tram service resumes. The parking structure was built with the companion tram service in mind for its use. As others noted, the walkway was not built to accommodate all those parked in the structure.
I'm patient and can wait.

DIS has a history of paying minimum wage. Indeed, SFGATE has a story out today that suggests up to 20% of DL employees are homeless. It's disgusting.

I assume that you're referring to Disney corporation and not to DIS Boards (which is owned, run, & operated by Dreams Unlimited Travel).

For people for whom it's a convenience, this makes sense. For people for whom it's a matter of accessibility, it's quite different. Shows are great but not medically necessary, right?

If you don't want to walk, park in Toy Story then you can ride the bus. Toy Story has always been my preferred parking pre-Covid anyway...I hated the free for all of trying to get on the tram at night. The lines for the bus may be long but they move pretty quick and I don't feel like I'm fighting for a spot on the tram for everyone in my party.

One of the reasons I visit the parks is for the walk, so I don’t mind the walk to and from the structure. Even when trams were running, I would usually elect to use the bridge and the DTD security, especially if the structure security was busy.

And, not to be pedantic, but the walk from your VEHICLE to either park GATE is minimum 0.9 mile. And that’s assuming that you are parked relatively close to the escalators. If you are parked far away, the total walk vehicle to gate will easily be a mile or more. I walk it every weekend and track my distance and steps.

Again, I’m there for the walk, so usually choose to walk anyway, but I still think it’s lame that Disney doesn’t have their trams running. Six Flags has their parking shuttle in operation. And I’m of the belief that there should pretty much be nothing that Six Flags has working better than Disney.

I don’t mind the Toy Story lot, but at the end of the night on Sat September 11, the quoted wait time for a shuttle back to the Toy Story lot was 45-60 minutes. To me, that’s totally unacceptable. I ended up walking back to the lot, but if somebody with mobility issues chose the Toy Story lot to avoid the structure walk, it’s pretty terrible to make them stand in a 45-60 minute line before they can get a shuttle.

It’s not that simple. I don’t know where you live, but there is a major labor shortage in Southern California. Almost every restaurant I drive by has “hiring” signs. I just moved my daughter into the dorms at UCLA a week ago. They are so understaffed at dining halls that they are bringing in LA food trucks to help alleviate the long lines. Students were just told that communal restrooms will be cleaned every few days instead of twice a day due to lack of custodians! We are paying a lot of money for our kids to live in the dorms, so UCLA has the money to pay workers - people just don’t want the jobs!

Then in addition to raising a concern to Disneyland directly through their website and/or through their 1-800 customer service line, you should consider voting with your dollars and don't spend money going to Disney parks, and don't buy Disney products, and don't subscribe to Disney+.

You bring up my concern, too. My husband and I are going for a few hours today. He cannot walk a full mile. I mean he can, but then he won't be able to do anything else. While he doesn't feel he needs an ECV and probably wouldn't be able to control it if he did rent one, he also needs to minimize his steps and take breaks. I think if he walked from Mickey and Friends, he'd probably make it to the end of Main Street and that's about it. It would take a mighty long time to get back to the car after that.

We're planning on parking in Toy Story today. He has a parking placard, so hopefully there will be some handicapped spots left when we arrive this afternoon which will minimize the walking to the bus area. I am going to email customer service and suggest that they bring the trams back to Mickey and Friends. Even if it was a paid service, it would make things easier for us.

I know it’s not ideal, but you could drop off your husband at the drop off lot on Harbor before parking.

Then it boils down to: Is Disneyland inaccessible?

As long as the park is still accessible, Disney will make other decisions to spend their money for the next couple of years. No income for a year is a disaster for every company, and every company has to decide where the money benefits the majority of their guests.

Quicker food service will influence the majority of the guests, because everyone has to eat. Not all use counter service, but you will improve customer experience for a very large group.
Shows and parades will influence maybe a little less guests than food service, but still a large part. Either because people enjoy shows, and if you don't you will enjoy the lower crowds it results in, in other areas of the park.
The numbers of guests whose guest experience truly changes by having the tram, is significantly less than in other areas.

It's not that I do not feel sympathy for people with mobility issues, I do understand why Disney hasn't brought back the tram.

I think no trams is the smallest issue atm. To me things like no Fantasmic, World of Color and reduced entertainment and streetmosphere generally, no EMH/MM, no room deliveries or room chargeback, long waits for mobile order, no FastPass as we know it and from all reports a general decline in service levels are more concerning.
But people can either vote with their feet or not.

Usually, when a piece of popcorn falls there is a member of the cleaning crew picking it up. There were cast members in training on almost every ride we rode. We had a first-time Jungle Cruise skipper and she was not good at all. Where there were cast members before there weren't any. No cast member where the 2 lines at haunted mansion merge creating potential guest conflicts. The line to incredicoaster went out across the pier blocking traffic and no one was there monitoring it. By far the jankiest Disneyland visit I've ever had. Incredicoaster had a 50-minute wait and they were only running one side of the track. Seems Disney has no problem packing the parks above what their staffing levels can accomdate and that is unfortunate. Hopefully, they get their act together soon.

My daughter is a laid-off CM. She worked in Entertainment and loved it. She was called last week and told that there aren't any Entertainment jobs (which have higher pay) but there was work in custodial, food, merch, or attractions. She loved her job at Disney and it paid pretty well, but she has since been hired as a barista and is making pretty good money there plus no commute from Irvine. She told Disney that she has a job but to please give her a call if the Entertainment positions come back. I imagine workers are able to be somewhat choosy these days.
