Why are WDW parks maps so accurate ?

Just saw the news about the AK online map being updated to show Pandora, and while I was looking at it I started wondering why all the maps for American Disney parks have to be so accurate, showing show buildings and stuffs; and also why do they use kinda "dull" colours for them ?

Being European I'm more used to maps like that :


Disneyland Paris


Europa Park


PortAventura

I don't know, I just think that kind of maps is a little more appealing, invinting you to an adventure somehow. But I'm not judging anyone, I'm just wondering why your maps are like that... So thanks if anyone knows the answer !

Why would you want a map that isn't as accurate as it could be?

You don't have to use the map and can find everything out on your own. But I think they make the best maps they can to help the guests out as much as possible and then that cuts down on cms being asked where this and that is if the map is easy to read.

That's a good point, but should Disney maps show the show building for the rides, though ? It kinda breaks the magic

@jackmosby, as Americans we need all the help we can get, while as a European you have a pretty solid education in geography, even knowing where places like Luxembourg and Liechtenstein are, whereas all we know about those words is that maybe they names for foods and/or diseases? I mean, we call people from Denmark "dutch," changed the word "skolebrød" to "schoolbread," and wouldn't know the Netherlands if it was biting us in our nether lands. Maps and all that jazz...need to spell to spell that stuff out for us.

Well, accuracy on a map is rather important. It is kind of the point-to get you from point A to point B in they way you choose based on the information you have available.

Well, yes, but doesn't it break the suspension of disbelief ?

And I'm sorry if I sound like some kind of European prick that say that it's better here than across the Atlantic. Not at all, I just guess it's some kind of cultural difference, and I'm just curious about your culture

So, yes, I guess you really like the accuracy your maps bring. I worked at DLP and it is true that a certain amount af people got lost in the parks, I guess I never questionned that.

And we only speak one language for the most part so communicating with others around the world doesn't seem like much of a priority for us. So we may never know these things. LOL!
