Why are Vegas Hotels so expensive for August???

I need to book a one night stay in Vegas on the bookends of our trip out West, but the hotels in Vegas on the Strip are ridiculously priced. I need 2 rooms because we are a party of 5 but every hotel on the strip is like $550 to over a thousand dollars for the night. We could stay downtown much cheaper but the kids who are now able to drink and gamble legally want to stay on the Strip. I am leaning toward staying off the Strip and allowing them to Uber over. I mean when the Travelodge is $536 a night that is insane. The resort fees are over $100 a night per room. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for hotels that are off the strip but close enought so my "degenerative" kids can get in a gambling fix.

That stinks! I think we are going to see rates everywhere start to go way up because people are really starting to travel again.

I would probably book a hotel that I could cancel up until the day before and keep looking as dates get closer. I am betting those prices will come way down once people aren’t willing to pay those prices and hotels realize most of the rooms are empty. I bet you will be able to book a decent rate closer.

I did a quick search on Travelocity for Aug 8-10 and see Ceasar's Palace for $270, Planet Hollywood for $150, and my favorite the Aria (which isn't technically on the strip but it connected by walkway and is entirely non-smoking) for $231. Maybe slightly change your dates?

Do those prices include the resort fees and taxes. Because the room rates themselves are not bad but when you look at the fees the price almost doubled. I can't change my dates due to flights which are already booked.

My kids started ubering around 17 (I know the legal age is 18). My legal kids uber to bars all of the time, and my 20 year old does at college. All of them have their own accounts.

Plus August is also prime wedding season. August ranks high as a preferred month to get married. 8 is a good number for a lot of people because it's also the infinity symbol.

If you can swing it vehicle wise and if the strip isn't that important to you, definitely look into off strip resorts especially Station Casinos such as Green Valley Ranch (4 star), Sunset Station (3 star), or Red Rock Resort (5 star). They are offering Summer Stays at 20% off up until the end of September.

Thank you for the suggestion. I just checked and they require a 2 night stay. I think we are going to go with the Embassy suites in Paradise. It is only $135 plus taxes and fees and we can stay in a suite and get a free breakfast. My adult children can use their Uber accounts to go to the strip.

Thank you for the suggestions and the convention information. I was looking last night and I was trying to see what could be the reason. I never thought about the wedding side. I will look at those places. We have already rented our car so we just need to stay there on the bookends of the trip.

Uber was nearly impossible to get rides with our last trip to Vegas around Easter. Hopefully it's much better by August for you guys.

Thank you for this heads up. I was checking out the monorail. If and when that opens it could be an option if I book the Embassy Suites. I will be honest I did not foresee the nights in Vegas as being the priority in terms of booking but I was wrong. Last time we went (7 years ago) the rooms were dirt cheap so I incorrectly thought I would be the same way this time around. I am assuming that much of the resort fees are trying to recoup some revenue from Covid.

I think so too. I’m taking my kids for a couple nights this summer and I’m noticing the prices are way higher than Easter, especially on the weekends

Just be aware that the monorail doesn't go down the entire strip it also is in the very very back of the casinos, so it can be a long walk.
