Why are they called "tennis" bracelets?

I confess, I am NOT a jewelry person. I wear my wedding ring and Mickey watch, and that's about all I can handle.

So forgive me for my stupid question - why are tennis bracelets called tennis bracelets? They don't look like tennis rackets or tennis balls or even tennis nets for that matter.

I seem to remember something about them originating with Chris Everett Lloyd. Did a search and it said she lost her diamond bracelet during a match, so that is how the term got coined tennis bracelet.

That is a good question I looked it up and this is what I came up with:
Tennis Bracelet
Definition: Tennis Bracelet is another name for Eternity Bracelet - a continuous circlet of small diamonds.

Derivation: The term seems to have gained popularity in the mid-1980s, possibly after the incident referred to below.
Citation: "This year's most desirable fashion accessory is a tennis bracelet...[Chris] Evert wore a similar circlet of diamonds--previously called an 'eternity bracelet' by most jewelers--while playing in a televised tournament a couple of years ago. The bracelet flew off Evert's arm and play was interrupted until it could be retrieved. Courtside broadcasters dubbed the adornment Chrissy's 'tennis bracelet'. Shortly thereafter, it was to die for among female aficionados of the game, even those with lousy one-handed backhands." Chicago Tribune 1987-05-27.

DH got me a beautiful tennis bracelet last year, every time I leave a room I touch it, because I'm so afraid of losing it. He also got me nice earrings for Christmas, so now I have a whole routine of touch, touch, touch for diamond check!

They are so pretty. Like I said, I'm not much for jewelry, but I would definitely like one of these.

Kallison !!!! I though I was the only one who did that LOL.

I stopped wearing my tennis bracelet a while ago because I did loose it for a few seconds ( good thing I do the touch touch LOL) so I only wear it out now.

My diamond earrings I touch about 25 times a day LOL.
When I upgraded to 1 KT earrings I had them but a super safty back on them and I love it. They never come loose ever !!!
