I booked a room only for POR for Dec. 6 to 10 (2007). I often change my resort after initially booking. This time there's nothing available! Anywhere!!! (except OKW and AKL).
Anyone know what's going on during that time?
I've never been to Disney in the Christmas season, only in the busy summer season. With all these rooms booked, I'm wondering if it will be any less crowded than summer!

Hi,
Christmas season is a very busy season at WDW. I'd grab one of those resorts before they are gone too. You will love December in WDW.

Golf is in October.

December is no longer an off time to go, it's "the" time to go. Resorts are sold out property wide for many dates and with the Christmas party at MK, Candlelight at Epcot and Osborne lights at the Studios, lots to do and see and it brings in the crowds.

Don't forget about Pop Warner days as well.

Alot of people are starting to take 2nd week in December as their time-off to visit WDW. This is our favorite time because it's still value season and the kids aren't out of school yet (although you'd never notice as tons of parents take their kids out a week early to visit 2nd week for the supposedly lower crowds). It used to be like this, but now it's getting rediculously busy. Last year i got run over by an ECV; tore up my Crocs, but luckily no damage.:scared:

Planning is the key. You gotta plan for Xmas almost a year in advance. This is what we do, but we know better than to try and change something so close to our dates as there's usually nothing left; especially when there has been a 40% code drop in the earlier part of the year (we took advantage of that:thumbsup2 ).

Yea, Pop Warner group is there til the 8th or 9th I believe.. So that will fill the values, and bumps folks up a notch.

I was just thinking about this today, I'm going Dec. 8 - 19 and it seems that a lot of the resorts are already sold out. I was under the impression that it was a slower time. Is it just the Disney resorts that are busier during that time, or the parks as well?

Wow. I'll echo this question too! My understanding was that the first week was going to be very busy because of Pop Warner, Mousefest, and the Golf thing. But now are you all saying that all Dec. is going to be really busy? Gosh I hope not! More info please!!!

There is no off or slow time at Disney. They have done a very good job of filling in the slower times. If they do project a slower time you will see specials announced. Sad but true... the good old days are gone.

The crowds at the parks won't be too bad. They will be a little more crowded in the evenings after the Pop Warner competitions, but they are still very manageable. I would compare it with the crowds during the end of the first week of June, not too bad at all. Mousefest land portion starts as Pop Warner is ending, you may have crossover, but not too much more crowding. We went during this time last year and it was very pleasant as far as crowds were concerned, but it was quite cold, I was shocked at that a little bit.

I wouldn't worry too much. When I booked DH's birthday trip in August for P&PP, there were very few rooms avail, but there were no crowds at all, and even the resort didn't seem to have that many people until the day we checked out, which was the first day of free dining.

Thank you so much for the info, Suzanne! Puts my mind at ease a bit more.
Last year I went on the second week in December, and towards the end the crowds were really picking up. This year I'm going two days earlier. I'm sure I'll have fun regardless, and I'm going solo so can choose my lines wisely...

We'll be there from the Mon. after Thanksgiving until Dec. 2nd and I've heard many people say that the week after Thanksgiving is very slow. In fact I read it's one of "the" slowest weeks of the year. I am so hoping this is true. My DH can't stand crowds. I guess we find out pretty soon:thumbsup2

Sorry about that, we're partly to blame, we have 2 nts. room only at POR 12/6 and 12/7, then we start our package 12/8 at WL. Jeez, glad we booked well in advance. I think it's evident that there really isn't a down time at Disney anymore.

Same thing happened to our friends last year on week after thanksgiving. We were all going together for their first time, and we found out they messed up the reservations when they made them. They called and tried to fix it, but everything at AKL was sold out.

Even with the resort being sold out, it didn't seem overly crowded then. Much busier than previous years, yes, but not as bad as you might expect from summer.

THis time frame is extremely popular with DVC people as the points used are pretty low. It's also the time of the annual meetings for the owners. Add to that, Pop Warner kids, locals getting in there to take part in the Christmas decorations, and MouseFest...well, it gets booked up.

We went from Dec. 6-10th last year, and while all those things are going on at that time, we didn't feel overwhelmed by crowds at all. We've visited WDW in late Oct. and mostly mid-Nov., and the early Dec. crowds seemed comparable - very manageable. In fact, if I didn't know it, I would have had almost no evidence that Pop Warner was even there (were they?). We had a terrific time and our first MVMCP was a blast! It was chilly in the mornings and at night, though, and DD was disappointed that we didn't swim in the pool - brrr!

:sunny:

I would chalk it up to Pop Warner as well. It makes alot of people not want to stay a value during that week, and also being a value time of year they can get more hotel for there buck.

Back in Feb/Mar of this year, there was a BIG 40% off code that TONS of people got a hold of. The discount was good during value season throughout the entire year and those dates include after Thanksgiving through the 3rd week of December. This is why it's so crowded this year. Lots of incentive by Disney to attend during this slower time. Who knows, maybe in a few years all of December will now be holiday and Disney will elminate it from being designated as Value season for the first 3 weeks.:scared1: <knock on wood> Hope that never happens.:scared:

We were talking with our certified Disney Travel Agent last night and she stated the time in question is booked with lots of conferences this year besides Pop Warner. Overall, the resorts are pretty well booked up this year.
