Why are rental car rates so high?

I booked in May with National when the rates were ok, but they seemed lower in past years...

They seem really high right now. National wants $210 for a weekly intermediate.

Check the codes on mousesavers.com. I got a compact (just me going) for ten days for a total of $224 at Dollar. This includes all fees and taxes. There are some good prices (comparatively) for intermidiates also. I think the inter. started at $179 a week before taxes and airport fees. Hope this helps.

I was at just over $12/day before taxes/fees in May for a full size with National (w/Disney Club coupon and code). This was for a weekly rental. Total was $113 with everything.

Now I am at $14.14 for an intermediate. Total comes to $138 with everything for a week.

However, the rates have jumped to $23.31/day for a week before taxes and fees.
