Why are people so inconsiderate??

We just got back late last night from the World, after having been there 8 days. Things were still just as magical as ever, except for one thing...the TRASH!

There seems to be so much more trash everywhere than there used to be! And, I honestly don't feel that it's because Disney has cut back on their custodial CMs. It seemed like every time I turned around I saw someone emptying trash cans, sweeping the streets, wiping down tables, etc.

So, that leads me to think it's the guests!! Why can't people pick up after themselves???? I don't know how many times I was standing in line for an attraction, and there would be empty drink cups, popcorn boxes, etc. literally within 2 feet of a trash can. And at WDW, you know there is a trash can at every turn! Plus, after the parades and nighttime events, people would get up from where they were sitting, and leave behind mounds of trash.

What is wrong with people??? It offends me to see people thinking that they're so special that they don't need to pick up after themselves. Plus, I think it's inconsiderate to the rest of us that paid good money to be at our favorite place - not to mention the further work it puts upon the custodial staff! It was so bad in some places that my DH and I would pick stuff up as we were standing in line, and throw it away ourselves (and then visit the bathroom to wash our hands right after the attraction).

Sorry to vent, but anyone notice the same thing??

It's not just disney but with LIFE. I find people are very inconsiderate. :sad2:

I do not get it either I mean it is not like there is not trash cans allover. I just would like to add that when we watch the fireworks at Poly on Thursday nite when they were finished all the people who moved chairs from the pool area just left them in the middle of the walkways. I moved four back to the pool area & this one lady moved about 12 back. I also saw a bunch of those snow cone beach pails(from Ohana) that people just sat down & left at different places all over the poly.

and of cousre these are the people who are most likely to complain about WDW.

You know, it's not just WDW though! I went to see Fever Pitch the other day (good movie, BTW) and when we left the theater, I just say people putting their trash on the ground and walk away. Friends of mine have done that before and when I questioned it, they always answered "Well, that's what the janitors are for." BUT THE TRASH CAN IS RIGHT THERE!!!! I found myself picking up trash from the people next to us. Ridiculous, but I was in a good mood. ;)

with rather not do it. It's a shame but people have became very nasty.

Have you every seen that show with the two ladies who come and clean people houses. How can they be that nasty. Unfortunately, they are and live that way everyday. People who are nasty and dirty at home are nasty and dirty in public.

I made my husband watch that show so he could appreciate how much I do around our home, run a business, homeschool my daugther, etc.

After that show.....he really started to appreciate me more than before and he even helps out around the house. All I have to say is "we don't want our house looking like those people on t.v. :confused3

The sad thing is that I've come across people who will be this nasty in public, but if you go into their homes...they are spotless. They can make the mess elsewhere, but it dare not tread in thier homes. Makes no sense, I know...but I know people like that. But then I also know people who are a mess at home, but are pristine when out in public.

There really is a laziness these days and it's not WDWs fault. Although they may contribute to about 0.01% of it because of the cutback in funding (even though they still do an amazing job as it is). When you're at a movie theater for example, people leave popcorn bags and drinks in the seats instead of taking it with them and putting it in the trashbin. At a lot of public places now, you don't necessarily pick up after yourself anymore, the bus boy does. It's the same concept. I think that and the wind equals the trash.

Welcome Back Tinkaroo, I look forward to hearing about your vacation...

As far as what you were talking about, well all I can say is it has to be...

The age of the PIG....

I saw the same thing you did on our last trip. I was in line for Big Thunder and I was 2 feet from the trash can when I saw the women behind talking to her husband and she finished her soft drink, she looked at her husband and asked if he had seen the trash can and he said just throw it on the grown, Disney has people that take care of that kinda thing, so as she was about to, I turn to her and said there was a trash can 2 feet in front of us. She thanked me but the husband had a nasty look on his face like I had done something wrong...

You know iwish81792 is right, it's not just WDW, it's all over... I have never understood why anyone would something like that...

. . . it all started with the invention of the elevator

BTMR was one of the worst attractions, but the real taker was Space Mountain. Literally 3 feet from the turnstile to get into the double-sided queue area, people had piled up so much trash on a platform. It took both DH and me both hands to pick everything up!! The one nice thing - the CM at the turnstile saw us pick everything up and throw it away, and he came after us to give us 2 FastPasses for return rides. That was very nice of him, and not we expected at all. :goodvibes

Reminds me when we are camping and go into the rest rooms. We hear people coming in and saying.."OMG what a mess, why don't they clean this place!" Yep, the owners of the campground had nothing better to do, so they came in, spilled pieces of toilet paper all over, dropped the paper towels all over the floor, and peed on the seats. Yup, they wanted the place to be a mess.

I must agree with others that people are particularly self-centered these days, and that manifests itself in crowded places by mountains of excess garbage. Disney takes the rap for it, but so often there is nothing they can really do. No appreciation and no respect for property

After Fantasmic, we stayed put for a while because we had a person using a wheelchair, one using a scooter, a 3 yr old and a person who should have been using a scooter.
We saw the mass of CMs who came in after the show to pick up trash left by people who had been watching the show. The one CM with a trash can was putting plastic bottles onto the seats to be picked up by another CM with a recycling bag. I can't even count how many times people went out of their way to knock those bottles down. Very inconsiderate.

I was waiting for the rest of the family to meet me in front of the entrance to the Plaza Restaurant in the MK, and a family was sitting nearby at another one of the tables. When they had finished their snacks, they just got up and left, as though someone was going to magically appear to bus their table. I can understand that people from other countries where there are employees roving around to clean the tables might do this, but this family was clearly American and knew better. It was as if they were thinking, "Hey, we paid so much to be in this park, we're not going to waste our time looking for a trash can!" Honestly, have you ever been anywhere like the Disney parks, where there's literally a trash can within sight at all times? I wanted to say something, but thought better of it. :confused3

A lot of people have the it's-someone-elses-job syndrome. Why should I throw away my trash when Disney or whoever pays someone to do that? It's really sad and as we say at work that person has no home training.
What happend to learning to be polite? I had a girl about 13 or so last night Knock my son who has CP down and not even look back. If I wasn't by myself I would have gone after her. I'm fed up

It is everywhere. Last night, I was at DTD with DD. We saw one lady through a trash on the ground as she walked along, even though there was a trash can right beside her. We went to McDonalds. When people finished eating, many didn't through their trash away. They just walked off. It was very crowded and people had to clean off other people's trash so they could sit down. There was no way that the people working at McDonalds could keep up with it.

And the restrooms...I get so mad. When people use a seat cover, why can't they make sure it flushes instead of leaving a mess for the next person? I just don't get it.

:earseek: It really irks me too. My DH is the Director of Environmental Services at the hospital I work for. He was in charge of a mall in Baltimore before that...people are pigs. People will spit gum on the floor and not think twice. I've seen people sit on a plant ledge and absent mindedly play with the shavings/bark around the plants and pick it apart, piece by piece and throw it on the floor. The common respect for where you are and other people seems to be a thing of the past and too many people feel a sense of "entitlement" to do what they want, when they want with no regard to anyone or anything else. It really chaps my....well, you know.

Okay, I'm stepping off the soap box...next.

I have always just automatically taken trash to a trashcan without even thinking about it, but it is surprising how many people don't take the extra effort to walk a couple of feet to throw away their garbage.

What really gets to me is the mess some people leave in a bathroom. Is it really that hard to flush the toilet?

How about some passive aggressive problem solving (or is that an oxymoron?)

Here's my try: after Fantasmic, the speakers blast out 'thank you for coming yada yada AND:
Kindly carry your trash to the top of the stair exits where trash and recyling receptacles have been placed for your convenience. Thank You. If you feel you are unable to place your trash in our receptacles, please signal a CM who will assist you.

What do you think?

I too hate to see trash at the movie theatres and esp. around some of the E ticket ride 'waiting' areas. And yes, I tend to 'help' when I see people leave trash. My favorite is to bend down and pick up what they've thrown and say with a smile 'excuse me, I think you just dropped this.' I'm a mom and can guilt with the best of em! I just stare until they throw the offending item in the trash. Usually, they are ashamed in that moment, but sadly, I think they probably do it again as soon as they are rid of me.

I would appaud a CM who saw someone deliberately litter, if they came over and said to them: kindly move out of line and over here into our special line SIR...and then just left them standing there until they figured out what they needed to do to get back in a real line.

Yes, I admit I am close to being a litter Nazi.

Shucks, somebody has got to do it!
