Why are flights so expensive??!!

Currently for us, Delta is the cheapest! Just under 400 for the 2nd step up, where you can choose your seats. Have to because of the kids. Although last time we flew, they had empty seats at the back and so they let the unassigned seat people sit there and not next to us, so we had an empty seat for the 3 year old to go between mom and dad. I checked spirit, 380 savings hardly seems worth no TV or WiFi for the littles. That all being said, when I booked our Jan 2018 trip, I was shocked, SHOCKED, that I was able to book one way seats from SFO-ATL (visited mom and drove to WDW) and then MCO-SFO, Delta Comfort Plus, for 159 each way. I thought maybe flying had become affordable again! But this year, no so much, those same seats are like 650, so over double.

Ok, I have to ask, 2 weeks in Orlando in the summer with a carry on & not doing laundry? Sounds kind of hard to imagine. I can see wearing shorts a few times, but not shirts, and surely not underwear. How many shirts do you take?

14 shirts. Shorts 10 pairs. I wear jeans and a sweater on the plane so I will have those for chilly nights and it

Roll all clothes. Underwear can be put flat inside / on top of shorts and rolled together.

Toiletries - I only take required medication and hairbrush. Buy everything else when I arrive.

Thanks! I need you to pack for me! Although I’d need to get rid of the extra sneakers, 2 pairs of sandals, 2 sundresses that’s I wear once each (maybe) & almost every hair product & over the counter medicine I own before you do! And I haven’t been a single digit dress size since I had my 2nd kid over 30 years ago!

we flew delta last year out of lax and they had the best prices on roundtrip non stop tickets, just a few dollars more than frontier who canceled our original flight. this year delta is a lot higher than most others.

I would definitely look around at other airports. JFK/lga/hpn are all within an hour of ewr. I’m in north Jersey and we look at all of them when we plan flights. You could also do Trenton but it’s only frontier there and they have limited service.
We ended up with JetBlue from lga for this August. We have a 9 am flight out and 10 pm flight back. Both direct. We bought four tickets. 3 with points we had saved and one with $$. We also got two with a checked bag and between the two checked and our carry ons we will be set for a week. We also don’t mind doing a couple loads of laundry if it comes to it. We usually stay in a one-bedroom but this year we are opting for the Polynesian so a studio -no washer/dryer in the unit.

I fly from NJ/PA to Orlando several times a year and pay anywhere from $50 to $100 Round Trip on Frontier out of Trenton or Philly. I check EWR all the time but it's never cheap enough.

we're going July 4th week from BOS, with six of us, so I had to find some savings. Ended up booking flying into Tampa on Jetblue and renting a minivan to get us to Disney. It was $152 one way compared to $295 if we flew into MCO. Hoping to fly out of MCO home, at least that is currently $176 one way. I'm going to give it a little longer and then bite the bullet.

For whatever it's worth, I always fly Southwest from Kansas City to Orlando. The cheapest "Wanna Get Away" price available is $153 per flight, NOT round trip. So, $306 is the cheapest round trip I could ever hope to find for my vacation. They are harder and harder to get these days. So, I agree. Flying is expensive, but driving is out of the question, so I'm stuck planning it into the budget.

Not true at all, I see RT's in February on SW to Orlando from KC for $74 each way at the moment, $188 RT including taxes. You just need to keep an eye out and book when you find the price you want.

I guess I should have clarified. I'm looking for late May, early June. I could never travel in February due to my job. Everything about a Disney vacation would be cheaper if I could travel in February.

I hate not having assigned seats. Like they won't separate me and my kids right? It's the 5 of us, but my son sometimes freaks out and wants me or wants dad, so it's nice to have a row next to or behind each other so we can switch easily.

If it’s important to sit together as a group, in two rows the way you describe, you should purchase early bird check in. At the very least, make sure you check in exactly 24 hours so you have a better chance of securing the seats you need together. Be prepared, those seats will probably be towards the rear of the plane.

I don't really care where we are as long as at least 1 parent is with the kids. Do you know of the family boarding? I read that parties with a child under 6 can go between A and B no matter what? And A group is only people with the upgrade? The upgrade is additional 250, so I am not sure about it yet. Also need to pay for wifi too.

No, no tv’s on SWA. Bring tablets & download movies. I have never had an issue finding 2-3 seats together (and usually more) if I check in @ 24 hrs but that does not mean it can’t happen. If 2 seats together is an absolute must, purchase EBCI.

Just know going in, that while it is slim, there is a possibility you might be separated. In order to help avoid that... purchase EBCI for all of you. Also "prep" the girls how to behave/what will happen if you're not sitting next to each other. Again, the odds are very low that you'll be separated, but it's better to be prepared. If you're not comfortable with the chance, I suggest cancelling and booking with another airline, but know even one with assigned seats can have problems that result in travelling parties being separated.

They don’t actually have TVs, but if you have a tablet or smart phone they do have free direct tv available. You have to download the Airtime Player before hand & then you connect thru the SW wi fi onboard. Again, this is a FREE service, you don’t have to pay for the Wi Fi to get the TV channels. There are maybe 20 -25 channels, but I seem to remember at least a few for kids.

Go to the SW site & check out the in flight entertainment page. They also have movies thru the SW app.

Well, hopefully the less of a drive and saving 250 dollars will make up for the fact that they have no screen tvs? What sucks is Kindles die so fast, so having Delta's movie screen was super helpful. Do they have plugs? I knew I should have just paid more for Delta but my mom was all like OHHHH SW IS SOOOOOO GREAT!
