WHY are DVC and Disney resorts closing

It is in Disney's interest to be open. The fact that they are not tells you volumes about the seriousness of this crisis. They are not going to shut down ⅔ of their company to screw a few DVC members.

Other hotels don't have nearly as much cash on hand as Disney, so they are desperate to get a few more dollars in before being forced to shut down is my guess.

im very well of the crisis, just trying to understand why one type of resort is closed but others aren’t. That may come down to Disney having the money to support it and others don’t.

This is why we do Disney. They take safety first. Will it hit their bottom dollar, yes. Vegas is shut down, if that doesnt tell you something. Disney is trying to help and get out in front of this.
If people and business have to think about the RIGHT thing to do, it will be too late. The early response is the best way to get this under control.
For the Florida Governor not to close the beaches, is a bigger mistake.
Up here in Ontario they just closed every restaurant, school, daycare. Only take out food or delivery are available.
So I am surprised Disney did not respond sooner, but glad they did.

I understand they want to avoid the liability and close the resorts. But for this to have any real affect on the spreading of the virus shouldn’t all hotels and resorts close In Orlando and other places for that matter.

Absolutely not. Hysterical conspiracy theories should be dealt with the strongest possible reaction in a situation like this. It's irresponsible and dangerous.

Social Distancing. Crowds in elevators. Restaurants are required to cut their seating by 50% and allow six feet between tables. Bars and clubs are closed for 30 days at a minimum. With all the dining in the parks closed, it limits the resort dining by 50%.

The hotels on our island are still open, but they are experiencing cancellations. Our bars all closed yesterday. Grocery stores are shortening their hours to allow restocking and cleaning. Publix is only open 8-8. Our beach is open, but the beach patrol is warning any large groups number less than ten or be asked to leave. If they can't get a handle on large groups, they will close the beach. Miami and Fort Lauderdale have closed their beaches. After the Clearwater fiasco yesterday, they could be closing soon.

Wow I think some of us are being very hard on the original poster. I get why some of you feel the way you do but I don't think it is necessary to be so judgmental and well...rude to the OP. I have been on the receiving end of getting flamed and I didn't like it so I try not to do it to anybody else. I think the OP was only expressing a thought he or she had, putting it out there for others to see and give their opinion. Based on the responses here I would say that most if not all agree this is a misplaced theory. I too don't think this has anything to do with the rental market but I don't see the need to attack the OP for his/her thought.

That being said I to had a conspiracy theory about this whole CV-19 thing but I have since realized that this is just to big for my original and initial thoughts to be true. I wouldn't dare state what I was initially thinking, I'm sure my computer would go up in flames if I did.

this will definitely have a negative impact on it because I think after all that is happening, and the potential for a crippling of brokers, language is going to have to be much stronger in contracts to include that resort closure does not void the contract,

Disney saw an opportunity to impact the rental marked by closing the resorts and claim it was done due to the virus.

Multiple posts followed with legitimate reasons as to why Disney closed, and why some other resorts have not closed... yet the question continued to be asked. The undertone of the "continued question" is that Disney didn't really need to close.

Everything is closing including Disney. Is this virus worse than others, who really knows at this point. Many viruses kill immuno-suppressed people, which always affects an older age group of which I am a part of. Currently, the virus isn't as widespread in the southern hemisphere. Hopefully, this is because of warmer temperatures which may help to stop the spread here as summer arrives. That doesn't mean it wouldn't return in the fall and winter, but it gives more time for a vaccine to developed.

Also, I believe the virus is bad, but it might not be as deadly as they say. I believe there are a lot more people with the virus who don't even know they have it or have had it and will never be tested. If we knew the true number. the death rate might even be lower the the yearly flu.

That's possible, but you also have to account for the likelihood that deaths have been under-reported as well (though obviously not to the same extent), whether through face-saving(China) or lack of official diagnosis

I think the bigger question is why aren't all hotels closing? Looking at Florida's response, it seems like lots of places are still open. But if we all want to take this seriously for public health reasons, why are they still open - not "Why is Disney closed?"

IMO it would make a lot more sense if all resorts and hotels closed due to corona.

In my country most business etc are closed but hotels remain open however they are not anywhere near the same size as Disney not even close.

We are not told to stay at home as in France but recommended to do so anyway.

They can in my country, but the government is also willing to help with postponing tax and other ways of subsidizing the business. All public workers except for healthcare, police officers and other critical workers are sent home with full pay.
