Our DD is preparing for her freshman year of college. We have been getting notices since Feb. asking for money - for this, that, and everything in-between.
It's always $600.00 - a rare one was for housing - they only asked for $300.

Ever wonder how they decide how much the deposits should be????

winniedapooh,
I think the University's Financial Aid Offices think we have a :genie: who magically appears and coughs up the $17,000 tuition..... ;)

My DS will be starting his freshman year at St. Joe's this fall. I was really hoping I was the holder of the only winning MegaMillions ticket worth $290 million. I wouldn't need to worry about making the tuition payments, mortgage, etc! Annmarie

Pam, I don't know how they pick the amount(s) ....but I'm thinking they keep sending "little" bills so you don't faint when you get the BIG ONE  This week I'm taking DD to buy her a laptop :scared1: ...the computer store at UNH is offering good package deals on Dells for incoming students...if you buy before 7/15. I think they time it that way because the tuition bill comes out "mid-month" and is due 3 weeks later ;)

AnnMarie, is your son going to St Joe's in Philly? My nephew, also from Scituate, will be a junior there! It's a Small World After All!! :teeth:

I think we are going to need a thread for parents-with-kids-leaving-for-college!::yes::

Im going into my sophomore at a university in New jersey and my brother is starting is freshmen at community college..the bills just keep coming and coming :)
Good luck to all of your sons a nd daughters :)

I'm stocking up on Kleenex already....:(

We got DD a laptop for HS graduation - she wanted a Gateway and loves it!

Yeah - we haven't even received the total bill yet - must be giving us one last summer of joy.;)

Blueeyes - have any advice for us newbie parents?

Shannon,
As I tell the University..... "the check is in the mail.";)

Will you be need $17,000 for just the one year - or for 8 like my DD?????

Pam, I'll take the $17,000 for however many years you'd like to send it to me.;) I'll check my mailbox in a little bit to see if youv'e sent it already.:teeth:

My DD's High School graduation day was Sat. June 5th...after a wonderful day of friends and family...I sat down around 9pm to read the daily mail. And guess what was in there....Yup..the tutition bill for the fall semester....due July 1st!...not even 30 days! I think they know when they are graduating and time the mail.....Just Right!!
Also noted on the bottom of the bill..."this bill must be reconciled by 7/1 or a 1% finance charge each month the account remains past due" Nice huh! :(

Let's get that "Off to College" thread started!!!

My son is a sophomore in college this year. Believe me, you haven't seen anything yet! Tuition at the state university my son will attend went up by 30% this year. The way I figure it is I pay now, and when I am VERY, VERY, OLD, my children can use their college degrees and they CAN DO THE PAYING for me latter. A beach front home somewhere warm would be nice.

Seriously, I think sending them back for their second year is worse than for the first time their freshman year. This time around, I KNOW how much I am going to miss him being around the house. To be honest, you do feel a great sense of pride watching them take their first steps of independance. I too think a support group here would be great.

You are so correct about it being a small world! I wonder if DS knows your nephew. My next door neighbor has a nephew from AZ also attending St. Joe's. We have orientation this weekend so we will be driving down on Friday. Annmarie
