I know this is so random. But we just got back from DL last night and we were laughing at the speed limit sign that says 14 mph through the parking areas. That seems wierd to us! Why not 15 mph? Does anyone know?

pbbly an attention getter. Made you aware of the speed limit, right?

14 MPH made you notice the sign. If it was 15, most people don't even notice. I have seen this in many places and it really so maybe you will notice and actual obey the limit.

Years ago, while working at a chemical plant, I asked why the in-plant speed limit was 14 mph. I was told that at 15 mph, the "roadway" is under different regulations. By keeping it at 14, the company could avoid certain rules like certain paint striping, angles of curves, etc. It would keep the rules under the control of the plant rather than the city. I'm guessing the same thing applies to DL's parking lots.

i drive a lot slower than that though. I had pretty scary encouters where kids just run in front of my car. im happy i was driving less than 5 mph.

yeah, my guess is better at 14mph. thought people do drive pretty fast in non full areas. :\

We had one of the tram people say "well it may seem pretty goofy that our speed limit is 14 mph, but hey, we work for a mouse. . . "
