I am lucky in that my last shift before xmas is Sunday night and I finish 7am Monday morning. I am then off for a week :cool1: and back the day after boxing day.
Unfortunatley I am on over the New Year weekend - but if I had a choice I would have worked new year over xmas any day.
So who else is keeping the country running while the rest eat, drink and get merry :goodvibes

Our offices close on Christmas Eve and we go back on January 5th (2nd is an official holiday in Scotland so we get the lieu days).

My daughter and I were chatting about all the wonderful people who sacrifice part or all of Christmas to be there for those who need them. We always make a special mention of these wonderful people over/after dinner. So if that's you, there will, as always, be a toast going out to you from our house - with love and appreciation! :goodvibes

I finish Christmas Eve and Im back in Wednesday the 29th, then off the 3rd January, which I am thinking of working and having a day off later. Vicki is back in work on Boxing day, as we both work in Retail we dont get very much off as of course the big Boxing day sale starts:goodvibes

I am working for 6 hours on Christmas day .... from 2pm until 8pm ... could be worse. I am also working 12 hours on New Years Eve. Poor DH is working nights from 23rd - 27th December and late shifts (2pm - 10pm) from 30th Dec - 3rd Jan - with only 2 days off in total ( one of which I am working ) We actually will have only one complete day off together ( 29th ) during the whole Xmas / New Year period. :sad2::sad2::sad2:

Great fun working for the NHS thats for sure !! We will make the best of it and hopefully next year we won't get such a bum deal.

I work for the ambulance service & will be on nights 23rd-25th then back in on days 29th-31st Dec, all 12 hour shifts unless we get late jobs then it will be longer. Its a rubbish part of the rota & if we are on the same rota next Christmas, which I very much doubt I will be working Christmas & New Year as I couldn't get them off as leave.

I've just found out that tomorrow Ians boss intends to ask him and his workmate to be on call over Christmas. Luckily, unlike some of you he can turn it down. We have decided that it depends on how much money they are offering, before he makes the decision...

We can't get annual leave over the Xmas / new year 2 weeks either ... it's a shame as I would love to spend Xmas in Florida one year .... will have to wait until I retire :rotfl2:

I've finished work already and DH will finish on Friday and neither of us will go back until the 4th although DH will be on call over the entire holiday period. He never minds as usually he never gets called in although I suspect it may be different this year if the weather continues like this. One year when we had exceptionally bad weather he was called in every day, sometimes more than once in a day  but the overtime for this came in very handy for our hols that year!!

 for everyone who has to work when it's not their choice.

i finish work at 11pm thursday, but back in 6am boxing day

I am off Tues./Wed. this week. I work until close 5pm Christmas eve. I always try to get right out at 5 but its usually 6 before the day is a wrap! I am the manager so I am the last to leave, I do ensure my staff are out at 5!:) When making Christmas schedules I give choice and try to be flexible! We are closed Christmas day!:goodvibes The only day of the year!;) I am then back for boxing day. I am off New Years Day but work in between. My DH works on Wed. of this week for 12 hrs. and is off every day! His plant goes into shut down, the 2 12 hrs shifts the next week. His 2nd job is on call so who knows with that one as he works as a guard for the police dept. so this job depends on the public?

Happy Holidays to everyone!

We also think about everyone that is working over the holidays :grouphug:

Our office closes 23rd Dec and re-opens 29th Dec but I don't go back until 30th Dec.

I will eventually be able to get leave for Christmas as its on a list based & i'm not near the top. Our station can have 12 people off anyone week. Every year the list changes & I will get closer to the top. I'm not fussed really to be working its just that I would rather be on a day shift as i'm not a fan of nights:headache:

I'm lucky and have already finished for Christmas and don't go back until the 4th Jan.

Iv'e finished too. Thank you to all the people who are working though, especially in the services :wizard:

DH and I are fortunate in that we broke up from our paid jobs on Friday and we go back on the 4th January. However we are working as volunteers at our local theatre over Christmas helping to put on the Christmas panto. That doesn't start though until the 27th until the 2nd Jan. DH is in the band and has built most of the set and I am the stage manager.

This is the first year I'm not working in retail at Christmas, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ecstatic about it :woohoo:

Our offices close on Friday but I'll be finishing up on Wednesday about 1.30pmish. Don't go back until the 5th as in Scotland we get the 2nd of January as a Bank Holiday so this year that obviously bumps to the 4th :thumbsup2

Not had 2 weeks off at Christmas since school! Keep forgetting I've got it as I'm so used to having only Christmas and New Year's Day off!

For the fist time in quite a few years I am off from Dec 24th to Jan 2nd, so will be making the most of it :)

Claire ;)

Im working until 23 then off until the 30th. Really looking forward to this xmas as my first GD will be with us.

To both of you (and your DH, TotallyAngelic) there will be people who desperately need you AND appreciate you on your Christmas shifts. As for those of us blessed enough not to need to call on emergency services, we shall be sparing you a thought on Christmas. :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes
