Best I can recall, except when July 4 fell on a Saturday, or Sunday, I haven't had a July 4th off since 1979.
But of course, people expect the news to be on the TV no matter whether it is a holiday or not.
Business and sales folks and managers are off at my place. Production, News, Engineering all working.

I've never worked on the 4th no matter what job I've had. My DD has to work though--she is a waitress.

I am an RN, this year I worked Christmas Eve, Christmas, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, Halloween, Memorial Day, and YES I am also working on the 4th of July. And holidays are always busy too. I do get Labor Day off WOOHOO. Oh I did also work NYE and New Years too. I have yet to get a holiday off!

I work at the airport...in a 24/7 operation...I could be off if I really wanted...but would rather work

I'm a police/fire/ems dispatcher in a resort town. Yup, I'll be working

Work in a nursing home-business office manager. Actually choosing to work because I need to close the books for June. Getting day off later in the month tho!!:)

DH (military and essential personnel) has to work. I'm a SAHM but my mom took DD for a few days, so I'll be cleaning the whole house in preparation for our potential renter to come look at the house.

I was planning on having to work (day shift) as I'm the newest editor in the newsroom as I can't work night shift (newspaper...) as I have an early doctor's appointment Tuesday morning and have to leave home around 6:30 a.m. (and I usually get home around 1:00 a.m.), so they were nice and gave me the day off with pay (we all get 7 paid holidays a year).

I'll be working for my normal paybut it is considered a holiday. I won't get extra though. However, if you are scheduled off and you come in and work extra, you get time and a half. If it's your regular day to work, you get nothing extra.

We only have eight holidays a year - New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

I think it's so odd that they consider the Friday after Thanksgiving a holiday but Memorial Day, MLK Day, Presidents' Day, etc are not holidays. :confused3

This could be me posting this. I actually worked today too. I'm also a dvc member since nov 2010

I'm working. Didn't answer the poll because I'd need two answers -- I get time and 1/2 AND I get a day of paid time-off.

Yes I am working. The the baseball park is having a baseball game and fireworks. I am manager has be there.

I'm working a 16 hour shift at 2.5X hourly wage + incentive. I'm working my own scheduled 8 hour shift plus another shift someone gave me.

I have the day off, but I always thought you should get the 5th off, because your up partying on the 4th, it would be nice to sleep in the 5th.

I've worked 23 outt 25 days, all 12 hour shifts and going from days to nights back to days and tomorrow will put me back on nights. I am so worn out I can't do my p90x. :(

God bless you, I've been there, done that. I have worked my fair share of holidays at the children's hospital. Not that i really minded. Kids don't stop being sick or hurt just because it's July 4th or Thanksgiving or Christmas. We nurses would always bring in food, funny hats, and decorations and make a big party out of it. Now that i'm a school nurse I get all the holidays off(and then some!) I kinda miss working the holidays now--but not so much that I would go back to working night shift in the PICU. :goodvibes

I said yes but I get double time.

This said, I am only actually working 6 hours of the 4th (midnight-6am, we work 12 hour shifts). Plus we get double 2 3/4 time pay + 2 more hours of regular time to make it 8 hours total of holiday pay. I love our companies O/T policies.

Oooh, I have been there. It is exhausting. Throw a few 16 hours in there for good measure and I am really feeling like death.
