Our kids go back to school August 29th but, we are going Sept 22 - 29th so, we have to take the kids out , any one else doing the same? I do feel guilty about taking them out at the beginning of the school year but, it was such a great deal (free dining) and we will not be able to go back for a while( at least 2 whole years :( anyways that's my question as I was just curious.
Thanks!

I am also taking my daughter out of school. We are going Sept 10-18.

We are taking our nieces out of school with their mom's permission of course. We are going from September 16 to the 22. First Trip. However, I found all these really cool q/a sheets on the mouseforless website, and I will be printing them off for the girls to do when we are down there. I also got them Epcot Passports, and recently saw AK Journals-Passports, so they will be able to go back to school and show everyone what they "learned.":rotfl2:

We homeschool, so school is going with us (insert evil mom/teacher laugh here.) BUT, IF my kids were in public school, I would not hesitate. Yes, they will play and ride rides and have fun, but, think of how much they can LEARN in the World Showcase at Epcot and in the Animal Kingdom.

Oh yes, I'm aware that it is an educational experience as well as a fun time ;)
My son is starting junior high school and my daughter is going into 5th grade so, I'm just hoping that they are excused and it will not be counted against them :( my husband did find a letter on some website describing all the learning possibilities by going on this trip but, I feel like the school system will still look down on us for planning it anyway.

We are going September 22nd-29th this year and have gone in September the last 3 years. I don't really mind taking the kids out of school so early in the year and my oldest daughter-2nd grade-will get her work before she goes. Best time of year to go to Disney in my opinion. Weather is great and the lines aren't bad.

We are taking our oldest out of school. Our travel dates are 9/8-9/16. I hesitated to take her out of school so early in the year (she'll only have been back for about 2 weeks) but it was the only time we could all go (we're traveling with a large group of friends, who also have school aged children) and it was an opportunity to take advantage of the free dining.

My kids go back to school today (year round school) and I've already talked to the principal. We'll be going 9/21-9/30. I told him that we had planned on going the first week in Oct. originally as that is when their fall break starts, but the free dining came up. He laughed and said he was going the second week in Oct. and he completely understood because he was tempted to take off work that same week so they could get free dining. There is a form I have to fill out in the office stating what days they will not be there (so they won't call the house every morning) and that's it. I asked about their work in advance and he said they would get something together for them.

We have in the past, and will again this year. It gets harder as they get older. My oldest is starting HS this year and plays football so we are getting to the point that we may move our trips into OCT in the near future....but it is hard and sometimes the school isnt so understanding of the WDW infection

My daughter starts the frist grade on Tuesday, September 4th. We're taking her out for four days exactly one week later. She'll miss September 11 through the 14th. I'm hoping its early enough in the year that its just review & learning their routine.
I plan on speaking to her teacher soon. They aren't in the building right now.

I'm taking my 3 kids out Sept. 28-Oct. 4. They start school Aug. 27. They'll be in preschool, 1st and 2nd grade. I do NOT want to do homework on vacation, so I'm hoping we can do some of their work before and after.

I am but not until December. He will be in 8th grade so it's not a decision I made without thought. However, I refuse to feel guilty about it :goodvibes

I am taking my three kids out of school Sept 16-23,My kids are in 9th, 8th and 5th grades, all honor students and i don't feel guilty one bit. They will be able to keep up their work.

In years past we didn't take my oldest out of school; however, we decided that the summer is just too hot and he plays football/baseball and there's too many conflicts with scheduling.

We took him out for the first time this past Feb. and we are taking him out again in Nov. I try to look for weeks were they have 1/2 days or no school.
This Nov. out of the 5 days he'll miss school, he will only really miss 2 1/2 due to teachers conferences.

My kids start school Sept. 4th and I am taking them out Sept. 12-19. The first couple weeks are just review and I do this with them all summer so we decided that it was the perfect time to go. I'm going to talk to the school at the open house so they have more notice though.

Last year we took them out from Sept 13 to Oct 12, a whole month. No regrets. This year it won't be so bad they will miss the first two weeks of school.

From a teacher's point of view, I'd just like to point out that the first couple of weeks of school are not just review.

The kids work on learning the rules and routines of the classroom. They get to know their new classmates and teachers. They learn their new schedule, and get accustomed to all of the "new and different" things.

Kids who miss those first couple of weeks often come in feeling out of it. They're behind - although not academically - because they don't have the experiences with the rules and routines that their classmates do. They're spending time and concentration catching up on those things at the same time that new curriculum is being introduced.

I'm not trying to talk you out of it................just letting you know. It's hard to be a teacher and be told that your first two weeks (some people say SIX weeks!) are "just review".

We take our two out of school during teacher conference week in October. We are afraid to go to WDW in the summer. Large crowds and insufferable heat are not our idea of a vacation.

We are taking our DS's out of school in September. My oldest is going into 3rd and my youngest is still in pre-k.
