We walk to school everyday - lots do here. For this past week, we've past a home (where they have school-aged children), and the same poop has been in the middle of the sidewalk. They have a hose hooked up in the front of their house. They know many people pass their house on the way to and from school. Why can't they take a few seconds to hose it into the grass?

Now there is another house (5 houses away from school) with a bunch of dog poop on the sidewalk. The poor kids were stepping in it on the way to school.

In our town, we are responsible for clearing our sidewalks from snow (or else get a fine), and paying to replace them if they are so cracked that someone could get hurt. Shouldn't these homeowners be responsible for removing poop? This has never happened in front of our home, although we've removed a few dead birds.

The original home owners are the leaders of our scouting community, so lots of people know and respect them. The poop is bugging me.

Personally, I don't think its the homeowners responsibllity to clean it up. However, if it were infront of my house, I would (make sure Dh) clean it up.

LOL - of course my DH would be the one to pick up. I guess I don't mean legally responsible, but I think it would be the right thing to do, especially since the route gets a lot of traffic from kids going to the elementary school in one direction, and the JH and HS in the other direction. I imagine they have to remind their own children not to step in it every day.

The dog's owner is the one responsible for cleaning up the poop. I am personally tired of cleaning up the neighbor's dog poop in my yard.

If the dog's owners were irresponsible like my neighbor then it's up to the homeowner.

If it bugs you so much, grab a plastic bag and pick it up. Leave it on the neighbor's porch if that floats your boat.

We have this one jacka$$ guy on our street. He walks his dog every once in a blue moon and NEVER takes a bag with him. Twice now the dog has pooped right on our lawn, while DH was out there. The first time DH asked the guy if he was going to pick it up, and he just said, yeah, I'll be back later for it. Think he came back??? The second time, DH was out there again, asked him if he was going to pick it up and got the same responce with some extras thrown in there (like I said, this guy is a huge jerk). DH promptly pick it up (with a plastic bag), and brought it to the guys front porch.

Many many times I've seen him just let his dog loose and poop on his neighbors lawn. He watches the dog do it, and then lets him back in the house. I just don't understand people like that.

I have to agree that it is the owner of the dog responsible for the poop who should be cleaning it up. I would feel no obligation to clean the sidewalk in front of my house. If I were walking that way and it bothered me, I would probably bring a plastic bag and shovel and clean it up myself.

My neighbor has a very large dog that he lets run. The dog occasionally poops on my lawn. The neighbor and I have come to an agreement. DH or I clean up after the dog. In exchange, the neighbor plows the road for us in the winter at no charge. Works for all of us. Especially since we have to walk the lawn before mowing to look for the rather large piles that can be deposited by passing moose and bear!

I know someone who lives on the same road with an identical problem. The neighbor's dog poops on his lawn. He takes his tractor, deposits the droppings in the bucket, and then goes and puts them back on the dog owner's lawn. This has been going on for about a year now!

It's the responsibility of the yahoo who let their dog relieve itself there.

Personally, I'm usually only vaguely glancing at the sidewalk outside our house on the weekend when we're doing yardwork. I wouldn't notice it during the week since I'm not out there. We're very prompt about removing snow but I can glance out the window and see that it's snowing. I'm not always up on the doings of every dog that passes by.

If it bothers you, take a bag along with you and if it's still there, pick it up.

What kind of neighborhood do you live in???? :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:
I live in a good neighborhood LOL but I was thinking of the PP who said she had to look for moose and bear poop (and I was also thinking of the thread about what happened at the UGA game, I'll admit it.)

I actually live in a pretty nice neighborhood. We just have moose and bear who wander across the lawn and sometimes leave their droppings behind. And if you think a dog can leave a big pile, you should see what a moose does!

 You are responsible for paying to have the town's sidewalks replaced/repaired. Funny thats what I thought people paid taxes for :confused3

As far as responsibility for cleaning up the poop, it falls on the dog owner. It sounds like your town has a bunch of lazy ones who probably shouldn't own dogs if they don't want to take care of their messes.
If it was in front of my house, I would pick it up and then set up a webcam to see just who is letting their dog poop there, and I would go dump it on their sidewalk :)
We had a neighbor who lets their dog poop in our grass, we had no idea who it was until dh came home while the guy was standing there while his dog was doing his business. Dh told him to pick it up and the guy came back and did. There hasn't been poop in our yard since.

Can you call your town and file a complaint? Geesh....those are some tough rules.

I am not sure about our sidewalk...hmmm....I have to find that out.:upsidedow

Where I live, people are responsible for the maintenance of sidewalks around their homes. Even though the poop people should be picking it up (and it is required to clean up after the dogs), it would ultimately be the home owner's responsibility. Same with snow, ice, cracks and other damage.

The neighborhood I walk my dog in (not mine as we don't have sidewalks) has large communities of geese that poop all over the sidewalks. Their poop looks just like a small dog's (they have an HOA that cleans it up though).

It would irritate me to no end to clean up after someone else's dog.

My mom was sued by a nun who tripped on her sidewalk and twisted her ankle. Never mind that this nun walked this same strip everyday for the past 10 or 15 years and was well aware of the condition that it was in. My mom also thought it was the responsibility of the city. When the lawsuit came she found out she was responsible and went out that weekend with my brother and fixed it right away.

As for the poo, owner should pick it up. We have one lady who walks her dog every day, but doesn't keep him on a leash. He does his business and she doesn't pick it up. One day my neighbor was cleaning and looked to see this happening and she yelled out the window "You going to pick that up?" The woman just ignored her and went on her way. I wonder if she would be the one to take it back to them and leave it on their doorstep, I'm sure that thought has crossed her mind.

As a responsible dog owner it's my job to carry baggies to clean up after my pets. Heck I don't even let my dogs pee in anyone's yards! But you know what, I end up cleaning up more of OTHER people's dog poo that was just left then I do of my own dog's poo....it's gross and something I should not have to do but I hate seeing it there so I do it, then I toss it as soon as I run across any garbage can, yes, even a stranger's. lol

It's the homeowner's responsibility here, too. We have a huge spanse of sidewalk since we're on the corner and our yard is over a third of an acre. I'm hoping they don't all go at once!
