Who's not going to Disney this year because of budget cuts?

Our Sequoia gets 17mpg. We have a 4 cyl. Saturn Vue that gets 30. I told DH I would squeeze into the VUE with all 5 of us before giving up Disney because of gas prices!

So far, he isn't willing to sacrafice that much! :rotfl:

But it is something to consider should gas become a large reason to not go.

Dawn

We are still going this year. I just did the gas calculator using the higher prices, costing $160 for a family of four. Still reasonable to us. We are also doing a week in Myrtle Beach, a long weekend in Hilton Head, a couple trips to Williamsburg, and a trip to DC/Baltimore this summer.

we decided against Disney World.

We are taking two, other trips for a little more than one trip for Disney. We get a longer trip overall doing this and I feel we are seeing something new, as well.

One of our trips this year is Pigeon Forge and Dollywood and the Smokies. There are Festivals at Dollywood and we are going during a time (Spring) where the entertainment will be more like being in Epcot. APs for Dollywood are reasonable and we may take even another trip there for Fall to see another Festival. I never get tired of the Smokies especially seeing the Cove. There are four seasons there and that's why I enjoy it.

In addition, we are doing Williamsburg, Virginia.

I will say we are not staying at Grand hotels but we survive. I love having breakfast included at the places we stay. Some offer hot breakfast which has good choices. We did Dollywood last year and skipped Disney. Then, we took a trip down to Biltmore in Carolina for that trip. We were very satisfied.

For us, it was one day on the road which I really liked for Dollywood. I'm sure there are places across the country that can make for good vacations for all. I feel to a certain extent I got in a rut with DW; because, I knew it so well. I have gotten over that feeling; so, Disney is going to have to be a treat in the future for us and not a regular trip anymore.

I can see us going back only every three to five years for Disney. Honestly, I did not miss it last year and I don't think I'll miss it this year. I will say for 15 years we were going annually to Disney, but not anymore. I think the current economy made me think a different way and I've never looked back.

The other option for some may be to skip a vacation all together one year and go every other year to Disney if you are stuck on doing so. You can take in local attractions for the off year. Give another look at your local museums, zoos, parks, and beaches for the off year.

How did you like the Biltmore?? I am thinking of going there. It would probably be the fall or winter. I am looking at staying at the Sleep inn

we went for our first trip in 2009. we are going in August again. i doubt we will go again next year, might go visit my parents in Dominican Republic instead of spring break. would love to go on a cruise also. i think i will be taking my son back to disney in 2013 before he turns 10. I made sure to make this coming trip possible even though the flights were double of what we paid 2 years ago:headache: because he's turning 8 soon and i know he wont be so into characters when he's a little older:sad1:

I really hope to head back to WDW Oct 2012 ~ I got married last month and my charming DH is from England - so we plan to visit his home every other year ~ $$$ *and hope that his parents/other family will come visit us on the off years/they plan to visit us this summer. His sister is getting married 12/12 so it'll be tight *we'll be there for that but probably won't bring the kids ~ but right now he is not working *we're waiting on his Visa to come through and then hopefully he finds something quick ~ I will continue working so once he's employed we'll be fine ~ my hope is that my check will go towards fun stuff/travel. We visited DLR twice last year, I really hope we can go back this year over the 4th of July weekend for DD's B-day *7/3* we were there last year same time and had a fantastic time! I have a cheap hotel booked within walking distance and I'll start buying PHs soon ~ I like to buy them 1 at a time ~ that helps spread the cost and we'll drive. DH has never been to a Disney Park so I'm looking forward to taking him and hope he has a good time. We're headed to Yellowstone for a week early Aug, we'll be with my dad in his timeshare condo so that's paid for by him and we'll eat cheaply and enjoy the great outdoors ~ gas will cost us but we're fairly close to Yellowstone!

Still going cause I keep losing the argument between my wife and daughter.

My honest opinion Disney isn't the same value as it used to be, it has gotten a lot more expensive and you seem to get a lot less. Not going to get too deep into it but anyone who has gone regularly the last 10 years knows what I am talking about.

On a side note, for a lot less we are going on a cruise with balcony for a week during spring break than a trip off season at Disney, go figure.

Add us to the list, unfortunately. We went in '08, '09 and '10 but we are expecting a new baby in July and just bought a new house. So, it's just not gonna happen for us this year. I am already planning our trip for 2012 though.

Well, DH and I had tossed around going several other places, neither can really get off more than a day or 2 right now and we want to do a long trip in Dec for our 10th Anniversary. But, we (I) decided I need to go back to Disney.

We have a 1 day hopper left from Dec, we can now stay at Shades of Green, gas and food won't be that expensive for 2 of us, I have a $25 Restaurant.com gift cert for House of Blues, so we are going in 3 and a half weeks. We each have extra paydays in March and decided this was the best thing to do for us.

We may hit the beach for a weekend sometime during the summer, but will take that as we get there.

We were going to try to go right before my maternity leave was up, but we ended up owing the IRS pretty much exactly what we would have paid for the vacation.

Uncle Sam took our trip!

My mom ended up getting into a bad car crash that she was not at fault in that totaled her car. So as a result she had to buy a new car which totally put Disney out of the question. So we will no longer be going in early November.

I stopped going there a few years ago because of budgets. We used to take two vacations every year and now we take one.

We are skipping Disney this year. First, We cancelled a cruise booked on the Dream for my husband's 40th birthday. Then the rest of the family is staying home while my daughter goes to Disneyland with her school chorus for Magical Music Days. And we probably won't make our every-other-year Thanksgiving Disneyland trip either. We just decided to face up to and pay off all our debts so no Disney until we've paid everything off. (But don't feel to sorry for us, one of our debts was the cruise we just charged in November.:confused3)

I would go every year if I could. I don't know if I could get anyone else to join me.:rolleyes1 I'm afraid that my family already knows that I'm obsessed and they want to do other things, go figure! But every three years seems to work out for us. We went for 8 nights in Oct. 2009, and hope to go again in 2012. I was hoping we'd be able to do a cruise in between, but things are way too tight. The economy is frightining me. And now we want to move, but have lost all equity in our home and could never sell it for what we owe. So I'm afraid to spend any money! But I am saving for the next trip. Come on 2012!

PS- We did slip in a couple of days at DL to get ouy Disney fix! Even won some tickets this year! That helped. We can drive there and stay with family to save a bit.

We were at WDW last August. This year we've decided to go to California instead and will be doing Disneyland for 3 days. It's going to be a big road trip, Vegas, San Fran and down the coast to LA. I'm excited to show my kids the Redwoods.

I'm hoping to do WDW during Christmas of 2012, but we have a Hawaiian vacation planned for that summer so I'm not sure. It honestly depends on what type of military discount they are offering at the time.

How did you like the Biltmore?? I am thinking of going there. It would probably be the fall or winter. I am looking at staying at the Sleep inn

i will answer....i went to the Biltmore last summer and it was incredible. It was as elegant as the Newport Vanderbilt Home...The Breakers...but not nearly as ostentatious. It is a grand old country home. It is NOT air conditioned so I might avoid it in the deep summer but it is lovely. The Stable Cafe is very good and I loved the gift shop...in fact, i found my very unusual wedding ring in that gift shop.

I would definitely go back so I guess that's a big thumbs up. :) HTH.

we have APs so we will be coming back twice this year and renewing because DH goes to a medical convention each fall at WDW. Dear friends want to come in december and split costs so we will do that. After that...I don't know. Maybe a quick trip next spring early.

We are curtailing our travel after next month because of money. We have gone to Italy this year and this is our 3rd Disney trip since October. It's tme to stick close to home for a while. We'll do a week in Chautauqua NY and nothing til our October trip for the convention. Kind of hard to say to an all expenses paid trip. :goodvibes

We went to WDW at the end of Jan this year, while airfare prices were still good and before gas started to dramatically increase. We are on vacation right now (in Palm Springs), and again, I bought low for airfare. The rest of this year is up in the air. We are hoping for a trip to Green Bay to see a Packer game and then on to Door County for a few days in September, and for a trip to Las Vegas in Oct or Nov, but we really will have to see where food and gas prices take us. As far as a future WDW trip in our future, I think that 2013 will be when we will tray and go back.

OT--Just wanted to say "hi". I'm in North St Paul but in Stillwater every week shopping or visiting family :)

We're not going this year (probably next year either) because I got laid off. We have some debt and I really want to get that paid off first if anything. I was so happy to go this past Oct., I almost wish I didn't go because now I see what I'm missing! :scratchin

We're not going this year... haven't been since Dec of '08, and probably won't be back till summer of '12 at the earliest.

This is exactly like us! We haven't been to WDW since 2008, and we won't be going back until May/June of '12 at the earliest.

We did get to DLR in Jan 2010, and Universal Orlando in Aug 2010. But I miss WDW!!!!
