Who's not going to Disney this year because of budget cuts?

If we had to fly or drive a really long distance I'd rethink our various trips, but that's not the case. We tend to take several less extavagent vacations like so many of you.

Hope everyone enjoys their trips.

:)

How did you like the Biltmore?? I am thinking of going there. It would probably be the fall or winter. I am looking at staying at the Sleep inn

We went in winter when the holiday decorations were up. If you go at that time get the ticket that allows for the evening viewing with the daytime viewing. We made it a two day affair, but you can do both in the same day. We did the evening considered the holiday viewing and the next morning we took in the daytime. There is a huge difference between the two times. I prefer the evening. They have carollers in the evening as you first come in. All the Xmas trees lighted up are gorgeous throughout the mansion. You can take group tours were the guides explain everything as you go along. There are audio devices that you can purchase that will explain each area, too.

I felt it was too cold to be outside very long; so, you don't get the advantage of the gardens as much to see, but I still liked the holiday mode there. In the fall you would have the gardens to see more, but you won't get the evening viewing. You can't walk there, but you can loop back to park again and go back to the mansion.

As you leave the mansion there is a village where you can get gifts and do a restaurant. This is relatively new. If you do the holiday time in one day this is a good place to come for lunch and then go back for the evening.

I'm still more fond of Hearst Castle, but both are enjoyable to see. I liked the basement the most at Biltmore; so, don't miss it. You really get a behind scenes look at how the rich lived and where the servants lived and worked. I really got a kick out of the bowling alley down there.

We're not going on vacation this year. We didn't last year because we moved and bought a house. I had hoped to go this year, but DH is getting med-boarded and we just don't know what the future will hold job wise. It just doesn't seem prudent to spend money on a vacation right now. So, we are planning to go next year.

I had wanted to do the whole Disney Resort thing.. It's a no win situation though.. the only way we could possibly afford it is with the military discount on the resort and ticket prices. But by the time we can go we won't be eligible for the discount unless they decide to medically retire him or something. I think retiree's can still get the discounts.

So.. we are still planning a Disney vacation for next year (I HOPE!!) and I'm looking to do the budget thing. It will still be fun, even if we don't get to have the whole resort experience.
