Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

BFF made her reseravations separate from DCL because they did not have any more rooms when she called for the two days before we sail. She got an e-mail from the hotel informing her that as of 11/1 there are no longer a Marriott hotel. Has anyone else heard anything? I am going to give Disney a call but as long as they are still doing their transportation from this hotel we don't care much. DS stayed there in 2011 when it was not a Marriott and really like it and the location. Sue

Hmmm... it's still on the Marriott site and when i checked availability past Nov 1, it still gave me room rates. Odd.

Which Marriott? We haven't rcvd anything from the hotel yet where we're staying and it's a Marriott. Thanks!

Renaissance Barcelona Airport Hotel.
I called DCL and they were aware of the change but the CM indicated there was no change in the contract they have with them. The new name of the hotel will be Barcelona Airport Hotel. They are taking off the Renaissance name. Still allowing booking for new ownership :confused3

Had not heard about the Marriott, but my guess is that it won't affect the Disney contract. They'll keep it in place if at all possible. Only a guess, but it seems it would be the best for all involved.

Here is something I posted elsewhere, but it is so fun I thought I'd share it here too. From a cruise we recently did on the Dream:

***My Favorite Conversation with a DCL Bartender. Ever.***

One night when my husband and I broke away for adult time, we sat down in front of a gregarious, entertaining bartender in 687. Although not from the U.S., he had a marvelous (and hysterical) grasp of some of the more nuanced social strata of the most important part of American society. Let me explain.

We started a conversation with him and two of his colleagues (it was pirate night, most everyone was on deck) about what it was like to work on short vs. long cruise itineraries. Somehow this conversation devolved to CM’s as high school characters. According to our new friend, there were clear personality groups that exactly mirrored American high school. Some were obvious, like the tech officers on board as the nerds. The cool kids were, of course the entertainers from the shows. Cheerleaders were the spa ladies (who they mentioned with referenced to a certain reputation...which I won’t go into here...but which is another high school stereotype). The servers were the Goths. But the stateroom hosts were also Goths. The maintenance crew were the loners (who everyone agreed worked the hardest). Officers were the teachers and principal (disagreement ensued as to whether the principal was the Captain or the Cruise Director). The Kids’ Club CMs were junior high school. Bar staff were the social butterflies or class clowns. And who were the jocks, you ask? The servers in Remy and Palo.

Wonderful.

DCL is contracted with Renaissance Barcelona, but not the airport location.

Thanks this is great I enjoyed it.

:happytv: That's awesome! Great story!

This is a silly question to all who have done the Med and/or Baltic before...do we still get a Pirate Night? If yes, do they still call it "IN the Caribbean" or do they change it to fit the destination? :confused3

I suppose this question also goes to anyone who has vacationed with DCL to a destination other than the Caribbean (which I have not yet).

Yes they still have pirate night and its still pirates in the caribbean. We commented on that while on the cruise perhaps they've changed it since 2010.

Thanks! Yeah kind of silly they didn't change the name, I'm interested to see if it will change for 2013. But I'm just happy at least we still get the night. pirate:

I hope the never change the name. We love it ;)

DCL didn't shoot the fireworks on The Baltic cruise, but we still partied like pirates IN the Caribbean. :)

I think whether or not there are fireworks depends upon local regulations and restrictions.

Ok so this is our first Med but aren't you tired after touring all day or do they do it on a sea day?

:goodvibes

No fireworks would stink. I hope they bring that back in 2013. pixiedust: But I'm with you, I will still party no matter what. :dance3:

There were fireworks in the Med. I think the issue in the Baltics was that it was light out so very, very late, being so far north.

It wasn't dark enough in the Baltic ... Didn't get dark until after 11

Here is a picture of Pirate night in the Baltic (day after we left Russia).

Note this was taken around 10:30 at night!

This is our first Med also, but I think it depends on the itinerary. Last year for our Christmas Cruise (our 1st DCL ever) Pirate night was on a Sea Day, but this year for our upcoming NYE cruise it's on a Port day. Luckily we picked a lazy beach excursion. Hopefully it's on a sea day for the Med though so we don't have to worry about being too tired.

Wow! Cool that they had the party at least. I think having daylight that late would throw me off. I still get thrown off by AZ in the summertime when it's still light until about 8:30p sometimes (no DST).

But yay for fireworks in the Med! pixiedust: (Had to do it again.)

Great photo MJgirl. To add what the others have said we have been on the Baltic and the Med and we had fireworks on the Med. DS and BIL were on the last Med and they also had fireworks. So right now it looks like the Baltic and Alaska are the two with the party but no scheduled fireworks.

This is one of the reasons I chose an inside cabin for the Baltic ... Thought it would help with the sleep!
