I am planning on booking a massage for DH for our arrival day.....has anyone used the spa for massages? I was thinking of the sports massage....

any opinions?

I've had the Swedish massage 3 times, twice with aromatherapy and once without. I have a regular massage therapist at home, so I was nervous about a new therapist not knowing my problem areas etc. I had one so-so massage, one fantastic massage (best ever) and one absolutely awful massage that left me with a pinched nerve. Next time I'll specifiy which therapist I don't want. If you get massages regularly go for the sports massage, but if you're not used to deep tissue, stick with the Swedish.

We just returned from the GF on Sunday. (Trip Report Soon)

We had the Couples aromatherapy massage! ;)

Very romantic and an overall wonderful experience! ::yes::

DH, DS14, DD12, and myself all received massages at the GF while at the World in April and we all thought they were awesome. None of us had ever had one so we have nothing to compare them to but it sure felt great!! DH and I are going down - ALONE!! - in Feb. and I would love for us to get a couples massage.

I had the neck/shoulder massage last month. It was wonderful! The GF spa area is a great escape -- dim lights, comfortable chairs, all kinds of tea -- some fruit.

But, best of all is a private enclosed whirlpool (hot tub) -- plus a steam room. After the massage, I spent about 15 minutes in the whirlpool - it was great.

The GF woman at the desk said the hot tub could be used anytime during the day of the massage.

:D

I've had probably a dozen massages there over the years, and have never had a bad one.

That said, I would probably not book for your day of arrival. They have a 24 cancellation policy, and if you run into a problem in your travels and don't show, even for reasons beyond your control, you will be charged.

They have therapists there as early as 7:00am, maybe the first thing in the morning the day after arrival might be a better choice?

DH had the Sports Massage once during each of our last 2 trips and loved it both times. I just called last week to schedule massages for our upcoming trip and was told that they have a 4 hour cancellation policy, or you will be charged a $50 fee(!).

I had the Soothing Tired Legs Treatment, which was awesome!

I had the 50 minute Swedish massage with aromatherapy and also a foot soak a week after my wedding 2 years ago. I've never had a massage before, but I left there feeling like a noodle. It was great.

I'd like to try the couple's massage, as well. But, I have to ask...is it creepy to have someone massaging you while your significant other is there? I mean...do you leave your undies on? Do you talk to them or each other?? I ran into that same dilemma with my own massage! I'm not sure of the massage etiquette!

But, the experience at the Spa was wonderful and I would definitely recommend it. :D

We both have had several massages before but separately. We decided to try this and believe me it was not creepy at all. In fact we discussed what we thought the etiquette would be in advance and we decided to simply follow the lead of our therapists.

We arrived about 1 1/2 hours before our appointment to work out and then we went to our separate dressing rooms to sauna, relax, and shower before hand. We put on robes only...;) and waited for them to call us back.

They set us up in two adjoining rooms with the partition open. Great lighting, music, smells, and the therapists were soft spoken and told us exactly what to do. We were maybe 10 feet apart.

The event was done completely in "concert". The therapists spoke to us individually (but in adjoining rooms) and asked about our aromatherapy choices, etc. They then left through separate doors and told us to disrobe, lay down on our back, and to cover ourselves with the warm towel/blanket. My DW and I spoke briefly and then we called the therapists back in the room. We didn't talk to each other during the massage, but would have felt comfortable in doing so....we were both just completely relaxing and enjoying the experience. After discussing our experience later, we discovered that the therapists did the exact same massage.

We had a great time and left feeling relaxed and content!::yes::

DH, DMIL and yours truly all had massages the last time we were in the World while our 3 DSs took the Pirate Cruise. pirate: It was an awesome experience. All 3 of us were sooooooo relaxed for the rest of that day. The boys could have lit a rocket under my chair and it wouldn't have bothered me at all. If you've got the time (and the $$!), a massage is definitely worth your while.

I am a massage piggie, and have them all the time at home. I have done the couples massage at GF, and it was fine, comparable to those at home, but MUCH more expensive. I found the facilities to be a little below the standard of my spa at home. But, if you have the extra money, it is a great thing to do after a few days of constant walking around the parks. As for massage rules, most people wear nothing, but wear what makes you comfortable. The therapists don't really care. (and wouldn't really know if you were wearing undies or not!)

ok - we have a PS for 8pm at CRT and I was thinking of having DH's massage for 4:30 would that give him plenty of time for th e50 min massage....maybe relaxing in the hot tub afterward and get back over to WL to get ready for dinner?

AllyandJack,

We tried the couples massage once, but didn't enjoy it.

He prefers a sports massage, I like the whole aromatherapy hot stone type thing, so we clashed on that to begin with.

We won't do the couples thing again.
