Hey! We've got a couple of new members for our cruise. We look forward to meeting all of you after the lifeboat drill!! You are going on the BEST cruise of SUMMER '93!! Brace yourself, it's going to be a "bumpy" ride (I stole that from the Dinosaur ride - AK)....we will have a BLAST....because you will be sailing with the most fun PARTIERS that Disney has EVER SAILED WITH!!!

It's just around the corner!!!!!!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :jester: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :jester:

Bob, as veterans (USAF during VN) - my husband and I salute you for your continuing the military service tradition. Thank you for the time and effort you have given to our country.

And welcome to our cruise!!!!! I am so glad to have another family to put down on our list. We will be having a brief get together after the mustering (really called "safety drill") at the Promenade Lounge. This is just before the "Sail Away Party" which none of us want to miss!

Also brunch at Palo, if you are interested is being planned! Just let me know!

So very glad to have you along!!!!!!

Hi, I finally found this thread! We haven't had the months of reading the posts since we just booked this cruise this week, just on a whim! We did the eastern magic over new years and this will be our 5th DCL- first on the western! It will be me, Barb (53), DH, Jim, (55) DS, Brendan (14- turning 15 on the cruise!) my sister Deb (49) her DD, Stephanie (21) and DS, Joshua (16). They too just booked this week! So I guess we don't have that long to wait for the documents! We need ideas and suggestions for excursions and details about meeting up with other posters. I'm surprised so many posters on that date! Barb

Barb - I like your whims! You are my kind of sailor!!!!

We would love to do the 'Brunch thing" at palos....After chicken and rice for 140 days in the desert - I'm gonna eat there as much as I can!

My wife is working today (part of our vacation funds....she is logging MAJOR hours!) so I am spending today making reservations. We are touring St. Augustine, spending 5 days in Orlando (go Disney!), and going to see some friends in Ft. Myers all before the cruise....So last minute reservations are having to happen. So...We actually leave for our cruise on July 22nd!!!!!:D

Guess what!...Since we were reserving under the military rate and only a month in advance - we booked in a cat. 11 - which kinda fits us financially anyhow. But the Cruise line bumped us up to a cat 9!! I'm not sure why...But we are extremely thankful. I know that we would have had a blast even if we had to stay in a closet - we are celebrating a ton of stuff this vacation. I'm back home, we hit our ten year anniversary while I was away, and I just got selected for a position in the Corps that is above my grade (it means another 6 mont deployment - but after that one I;m sitting behind a desk for a while ).

Anyhow - Its just Brooke and daddy today...Time to plan the vacation! (only 18 days till mine starts!)

HAPPY 4TH!
Bob

Is anyone staying at the radisson the night before? It is pretty awesome...Great atmosphere. We met some of our best friends there the night before our last cruise....

Hi, We are staying at the Radisson. I'm traveling with my DH, DS-7, DS-14 and his friend, my parents and my sister-inlaw. We've stayed there before the last 2 cruises and enjoyed it. Hope to see you there. Beth

Betha - Pittsburgh PA?...I'm from Uniontown/Connellsville. but haven't been back for a few years - and then it was only for Steeler games!

Bob, GREAT about the bumping up!!!! And 10 years together! Wonderful to have that to celebrate along with your promotion - hey, even a 6 month depolyment can't put a damper on that!

Ohh, so nice to have a Daddy and Daughter Day! Enjoy!

Rae

How do you celebrate the Fouth?

We have our traditional foods (BBQ, hot dogs, potato salad, beans) then watch "Independence Day" with Will Smith!!
And if the weather is good - we go to our local fireworks celebration in the Park, otherwise it's Macy's Fireworks on TV!

So you take a day off from shrimp?

Actually, we don't have a tradition...I guess you never know if I'll be here or not....But we usually spend the Sunday at church wearing our uniform (those of us military members) and this year 2 of us are going to talk of our experiences and a thank you to the church for their support.

I'm a pyro....Once a summer - not always on the 4th - I light up the world with some good fireworks...and usually down a few dogs and burgers - being sure to properly douse them in beer...But that won't happen today!

Welcome back Bob! Welcome to the BEST cruise this summer on DCL! Thx for everything! Happy 4th!

Hi

No shrimp will cross my lips til Fidelio returns - was my vow ---- but I have to admit I am weakening!!!!!

I love that tradition of wearing your uniform to Church - in our day, the Vietnam war protestors made it very uncomfortable for us to do so. I swear if I heard "Baby killer" once I heard it a dozen times when I was flying home in uniform. Things just weren't the same back then. We stood for politics and regardless if we were drafted or volunteered, we were still the personafication of the government policy. At least now things are a little better and there is more tolerance, even admiration for the military members. Not to whine about it, we are just very glad that the tide has turned!!!

No fireworks for us - back in the early 60's, I saw my cousin catch on fire from a sparkler - that was enough to keep me away permanently. We have gone to the local show held at the park by the fire department, but are far away from them! Last night it stormed so they watched it on TV - I went to sleep!!!! Long day in the heat with the horse!!!! But I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Hope the weather is better where all our DIS friends are today!

Well - I have 2 more weeks of work! I don't know how you all have done it...The waiting game that is. I just finished playing one (the waiting to come back to the states) and now can't wait until the vacation starts. Work is no easier either - not a whole lot to do. All of my gear is 10,000 miles away - and a lot of my Marines are on leave. A lot of working out and unpacking sea bags!

Any excursions for you all? I think I'd like to do one of the ruins tours...

Rea - Hats off to all of you that served when it wasn't the most popular thing to do....I'm still amazed at my parents generation's ignorance....Protest against the government - you have the right. But that right is granted to you by the very Marines, Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen you spit on...They sure had class...

Hey everyone.... only a few more weeks, and we'll be sailing on the MAGIC --- WOO HOO :) Bet u r all super excited, i know we are!!! Just wondering if anyone here has tried the parasailing at Castaway Cay and if so... any thoughts they might have on it, or if they are going to give it a try when we go... my daughter (17) is really hoping she gets to, but is a little hesitant still, so any shared past experiences with it would be wonderful!!! Countin' down the days... :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I remember our little code for it "PCOD" - if that sounds familiar to you!!! If not, ask us on the cruise and we will share that little joke.

We were going to take 3 excursions, but changed our minds. Shoretrips refunded our money in full within 48 hours! Very good company!

Bob, we just did what we did because it was what we believed. Same as the protesters - as unpopular as it sounds, I was against this "war" - not against my fellow GI's but just not wanting anymore killing. I am the first to recognize that I do not have all the facts but after Kayla died, my entire focus changed and I can't support killing - I still have my flag flying and my patriotism is there.
There wasn't one GI who deserved the harassment of the 1960's protesters. Most were drafted and had no choice. I chose to go in as did DH. We did our jobs and served proudly. But as you know we'd fight to the death their right to be wrong!

Take care and see you very, very soon!
Rae

Rae, let me know how many are interested in brunch.
