I'm very curious - How many of you have decided enough is enough for waiting with SW and booked your post February 3 airfare through other airlines?

Post here only please if this pertains to you. I plan on sending this email to SW to prove how much money they have lost by this "strategy".

Thanks.

Totally agree with you...I have given up on them. I like to plan in advance. Have used Jet Blue and Song for all our flights during the past 3 years, that is 14 tickets! However, this strategy of Southwest's might be why they are the only profitable airline meeting their goals. They do some kind of fuel hedging purchasing that keeps their costs down and maybe that has something to do with the way they book.

I've given up. Our trip is 5 months out and will look at Air Tran.

The sad part is they are not going to "Lose" any money. When they come out with a good rate the planes will be full like they always are every day.

I would rather wait for SW than to have my flight info changed every other week like Song has done. Once SW comes out with their pricing for late Feb. I will cancel the Song flight and book with SW.

Well, I gave up about a week ago because I got fares on AA that were a great deal. They were about the same price that SW would be IF they had the same internet one-way fares available the last week of March(spring break) that they have available in January. From what I've been told, that's a big "IF" since it's a peak travel time.
The only downside of the AA tickets is that it's a 6 hour drive to SFO. But SW would have meant a 5 hour drive to PDX, so not a big difference.

I am still looking for SW for my mom and sister though.

I waiting for SWA, too. I can rest assured that once that schedule is up it won't change ala SONG, DELTA et all.

Does anyone know of SWA got delivery on the new planes they ordered yet?

I'd also like to say that I don't think this is a "strategy". Yes, they operate on shorter schedule horizons and that is part of how they keep costs down. But the reason it has taken longer than normal for them to extend their schedule this time likely has to do with hurricane Katrina and the addition of flights out of Denver.

I don't deny that. I didn't mean it in a "HEE HEE HEE" sneaky kind of way. I think they're doing the best they can to keep costs lower.

However, they're waiting WAY too long for such a busy travel season.

I'm still waiting as well. I just checked out Airtran and Jetblue. For a family of 5, I'd rather pay $49 than $99 and up per route. I also want a direct flight from Buffalo, not a stopover. I won't give up on them yet! I'm a last minute booker anyway!

How do you do this? Isn't your song fare non refundable?
